3rd POV — Mars Orbit
The void above Mars burned with engine flares. Hundreds of warships — from sleek Grey Knight strike cruisers to Mechanicus Ark Mechanicus battleships — formed up into the largest fleet the Red Planet had seen since the Great Crusade.
Beneath the banners of the Flamebringer, Custodes, Grey Knights, Salamanders, and the veterans of Shawn's earliest campaigns stood ready. Every soldier, every battle-brother carried Haki in some form, from raw Armament hardening to mastery of advanced projection.
Thirty years of preparation had led to this moment.
The path to Terra was open, but not unopposed. Between Mars and the Throne World lay fleets still loyal to the corrupt High Lords, xenos incursions feeding on Imperial weakness, and traitor warbands desperate to claim Terra for themselves.
Shawn's POV — The Command Deck of the Ember Vow
The hololith above the strategium table flickered with star maps. Red zones marked fortified loyalist bastions. Yellow showed unstable regions crawling with opportunistic xenos. Green — precious few — showed worlds already aligned to me.
Valdor leaned forward, arms crossed. "Our push will be watched. Every move we make will be challenged. The corrupt High Lords will call us traitors."
"They can call me what they want," I replied, tightening my gauntlet. "We'll burn their corruption out and put the Emperor's will back in its place."
Valen's eyes glowed faintly. "The Warp churns ahead. Expect daemonic intervention. They fear this march more than they fear another Black Crusade."
Eristan's vox-filtered voice cut in. "The fleet is at full readiness. The new Haki-reactive plasma cannons will be tested in combat."
I looked at them all — my inner circle. "Then we take the first step. No retreats. No hesitation."
3rd POV — The First Target: Calthrax System
The Calthrax system was a choke point — a fortified loyalist hold commanded by Admiral Yevran, a man known for his ruthless blockade tactics. His fleet of Imperial Navy vessels, backed by mercenary voidcraft, controlled the approach lanes to Terra's sector.
As Shawn's armada entered the system, Yevran's voice boomed over open vox channels.
"Unknown fleet, you approach restricted Imperial territory. Stand down or be annihilated."
Shawn's reply was short. "Then try."
Battle Scene — Void War
The void erupted in light and fire. Mechanicus battleships fired lances that tore through cruisers like paper. Grey Knight strike craft darted between enemy formations, their Haki-imbued torpedoes piercing through void shields with unnatural precision.
On the Ember Vow, Shawn extended his Spirit Projection, forming colossal liquid-Haki constructs across the void — massive blackened blades that swung through enemy squadrons like a reaper's scythe. Each strike drained him, but the destruction it wrought broke the enemy's lines.
Valdor, aboard his flagship, unleashed Conqueror's Haki across entire enemy bridges, incapacitating crews in moments, leaving their ships adrift.
Valen, projecting psychic storms wrapped in Armament Haki, shattered a Chaos warband attempting to flank. Their daemons disintegrated under the combined pressure of Warp disruption and spiritual force.
3rd POV — Boarding Action
When Yevran's flagship's void shields failed, Shawn's Salamanders and Custodes boarded in unison. The halls of the battleship became killing grounds.
Shawn led the charge, liquid Haki forming into a blackened warhammer with every swing breaking ceramite and bone. Vulkar and Tahak fought beside him, their synchronized Armament blows ripping through entrenched defenders.
Basur's Observation Haki allowed him to predict every counterattack, cutting down squads before they even raised their weapons.
By the time they reached the bridge, Yevran stood alone, power sword raised.
"You've damned yourself, Newman," he spat.
"Maybe," Shawn replied, stepping forward, "but I'm going to save this Imperium."
One swing ended it.
3rd POV — Aftermath
The battle lasted less than three hours. The blockade fleet was shattered, Calthrax fell, and with it the first barrier between Mars and Terra.
But there were losses. Dozens of Custodes and Grey Knights lay dead, their golden and silver armor carried back to Mars for burial with honor.
Shawn stood on the ruined bridge of Yevran's flagship, looking at Terra's distant star through the viewport.
"This is only the beginning," he said to Valen, who stood beside him.
Valen nodded. "And the galaxy is already watching."
