Chapter 2 - The Ceremony II

The gods whisper, looking down at the generation beneath them, contemplate who would receive their blessings. Getting a blessing from a god wasn't uncommon, in fact it was the most common thing in the world. But the rarest thing was to receive blessings from a primary god, and even rarer from the primordial gods.

"Let the ceremony commence," the Pope spoke, standing with authority, his staff in hand, and wearing his white robe. Children started to be called up; one at a time, they received their blessings. Nothing special though, just a few lower gods' blessings. Most were from the lower level god Ethum, farmer's blessings.

The next batch were called up and what a surprise, a boy wearing rag-like clothes was blessed by one of the primary gods, the god of war, Marlel. He may have had on rags but he was composed; his hair was also black, and eyes were piercing red. A unique combination of sorts.

Next it was Rella's time. The Pope called her name, and she walked up to the podium. The Pope stretched his hands to place them on her head. They now chant the words of the gods: "Da mihi benedictionem tuam Domine, da mihi sapientiam et protectionem tuam."

(Grant me your blessing o' Lord, grant me your wisdom and protection.)

A circle enveloped them, and a crest appeared on Rella's hand. It looked like an infinity symbol, with the Pope announcing Rella's blessing. "Rella—" the Pope, still in shock, stammered, "Rella— has obtained a blessing from one of the primordial gods." The Church was filled with applause. The Pope stamped his staff on the floor to restore order to finish his words: "She has obtained three blessings from the God of Death: Immortality, two, Gift of Immortality, third, The Authority of Death." Silence remained in the room and whispers broke the silence. Eyes eyed her, the little girl stood frozen, scared of her blessing.

On her way home Rella slept on her mother's lap, tired from the overwhelming day. Her mother looked at her sleeping body with concern in her eyes; her father too. They were both scared for what the future would bring.

It was a great blessing, but the wrong one.

They'd hoped she would be blessed by the primary god of magic.

(Magic can be performed without a blessing, but a blessing from the God of Magic would amplify one's mana 5x its original capacity. An exception is primordial gods; their blessings come with amplification of the body and mana 10x, probably 100x its original capacity. To be honest, magic-based gods give some sort of magic buff and labor/fighting-based gods offer muscle buffs.)

They arrived at their house. It wasn't exactly a mansion, but it was a humble, well-built abode. You could tell they weren't high nobles, but you could tell they were also not commoners.

Rella's father carried her in his arms as they walked up to their house, entering. The day Rella waited for so long had finally arrived and ended in surprise and exhaustion. The three moons in the sky above signaled night, and the new day signaled a new beginning.
