Chapter 55 - "Peace is a lie"

--------------------------

Jircniv Rune Farlord El-Nix POV

His and his companions' footsteps echoed through the tomb like a tug of war. Nervousness rose within him at the thought that everything he had worked for his entire life was in jeopardy. What did the Emperor of the mighty Baharuth Empire have to watch out for, one might ask, the man who single-handedly wiped out the nobility and led the empire to new heights? Who commanded not just the Imperial Knights but also the Imperial Legions, not to mention the Triad Magic Caster—Fluder Paradyne himself.

Now, as remarkable as his successes and resources may be, even he didn't think he could stand up to the man who called himself Ainz Ooal Gown. While he couldn't say anything about this man's achievements due to a lack of knowledge, he was sure his resources were even greater than his own. He was easily able to eliminate experienced worker teams, he was able to hide from a man like Fluder who was hailed as the strongest magic caster in the world, commanded dragons and that monster of a dark elf girl who had killed hundreds of empirial knights on her own. And if it was true that he could create death knights, as his maid had claimed even his legions might not have been a match.

The tomb they were led to was also very tastefully and expensively furnished, which seemed to rule out even an excuse through that kind of way. Riches, power, both military and personal, magical talent, and such beautiful women... He was certain that nothing he had would impress Ainz Ooal Gown. Even if they managed to get out of here alive, he worried about what would become of the world as he knew it.

He was so lost in thought that he hadn't even noticed his guides stopping. Now he too stopped and looked at the monstrosity of a door before him. A gate, more like, a portal made for kings, so large and impressively decorated that not even he was sure he would ever own such a thing. The maid bowed and gestured toward the gate, which promptly swung open.

High walls of light from enchanted chandeliers, exotic carpets covering the grand hallway, monsters of various colors and shapes stationed along the sides of the hall. At the end, on a massive black obsidian throne, sat a terrifying skeleton, wrapped in magical robes and holding a beautiful golden scepter in its right hand.

Leaning on one of the throne's wide stone armrests was a beautiful woman with snow-white hair. Full red lips and features so beautiful he almost thought he was looking at a carved statue illuminated her face. She wasn't very tall, but her breasts and curves were far more pronounced than they should have been for a woman of her size. The black dress that hugged her ravishing body, as well as the jet-black fingernails that only emphasized the blackness of her dress only made her look much more elegant. But what detracted from her exotic beauty were undoubtedly her ruby-red eyes with their slit pupils, which marked her identity as non-human.

But she wasn't the only person standing next to this godlike skeleton. To the right and left of the throne, although somewhat further away than the white-haired beauty, stood far more inhuman figures. Firstly, there were the two dark elves who had invaded his palace together with their dragon. Next to them was a beauty who also had red eyes.

On the other side stood a winged frog in a red suit, next to a giant blue beetle, as well as a human looking butler in a black tailcoat. The other side of the skeleton, not occupied by the white-haired beauty, seemed to belong to a black-haired, horned, and winged woman in a white dress, who seemed to present her gentle, maternal, albeit false, smile to the whole world.

"Lord Ainz, Jircniv Rune Farlord El-Nix the Emperor of the Baharuth empire seeks an audience with you" started the horned woman at their arrival

"Thank you for coming this long way Emperor Jircniv Rune Farlord El-Nix" spoke the monster on the throne after a short while

"Thank you for welcoming us, Lord Ainz Ooal Gown" he spoke with a charming smile

"Look at you people, do you really think that you can speak at the eye level of our Lord?" mused the winged frog

'On your knees'

The command was enough, even though he wasn't affected his subordinates were proving that it wasn't just a simple command. Even Fluder hailed as a human hero kneeled on the ground like his knights.

"That's enough Demiurge" ordered the skeleton on the throne

"As you command my Lord" replied the frog

'Release control'

And with that his subordinates were able to move again but even though that was the case, he wasn't happy about it. This incident only proved that his suspicions about Ainz Ooal Gown's forces were correct.

Humanity was in Danger.

"It seems I also have to apologize, for my lack of control over my subordinates" said the skeleton

Hah, here it goes he thought

"Not at all. It was one of my subordinates that roughly barged into your house first, therefore I brought you his head as a small token of apology." he replied and gestured to one of his companions.

His secretary understood, and slowly stepped forth with the urn that contained the nobles head, no doubt scared of the monsters besides the throne. The winged frog approached his servant and took the vessel from him, then knelt before his master and presented the object. Ainz Ooal Gown accepted the urn and opened the lid which made the white haired girl at his side giggle...

"Mmmm, I guess it would be a waste to just throw him away..." The master of the tomb murmured

Sarcasm? So he is aware who really is behind the attack on the tomb, but where did the information leak...?

His train of thoughts was interrupted. The head of the count he had used as a scapegoat had turned into black slime at the touch of Ainz hand who proceeded to lazily let it glide from his grip. Upon impact on the ground the slime stretched out, formed itself anew into a more familiar figure.

A death knight?

Panic began to settle in his mind. So the maid had not lied after all, Ainz Ooal Gown was not only able to create such monsters, he was also able to do so on a whim, and it only seemed to have costed him a human corpse. That revelation was unsettling, the fact that so much power was held by just one person gave him goosebumps. But he couldn't let loose just jet, he had to protect his poker face a little longer.

"Well, I think that settles it. I accept your apology, as you have mine, with this we are done. You may return to your empire, emperor Jircniv Rune Farlord El-Nix..." The undead began, but was interrupted by the white haired beauty who whispered something in his ear.

"You are right Oriana, I should ready the troops shouldn't I?" responded the skeleton to the women half sitting on his throne, letting his hard skip a beat

"Excuse my curiosity Sir Gown, what do you mean by 'readying the troops?'" he inquired baiting his breath

"Well, this little incident has shown us, that it is impossible for us to lie low. I plan to make sure nothing like that is ever going to happen again. I don't want to do that, but we live in difficult times. Not only your empire has shown us this, Emperor. I have heard about the exploits in the capital, organized by a certain demon. If we want to protect us against such forces, we will need a wider range of power, not only underground, but official power. I hope you understand where I am coming from, Emperor Jircniv Rune Farlord El-Nix." Explained the Overlord.

"Please call me Jircniv, and I understand your point. You want your own kingdom to govern. I am willing to help you with that, why don't we form an alliance?" he suggested hastily.

"Hahaha. Don't you confuse alliance with subm...AHHH" the little woman in red dress mocked but was kicked in the back by the dark elf.

"Quiet, idiot" replied the dark elf boy

"Hey what do you..."

"Quiet, I demand that you be silent"

declared the ruler of the tomb in a majestic voice, moving his hand in a dismissive motion that locked as if it had been learned through a long life of ruling

"An alliance sounds interesting, emperor Jircniv, but I don't see how you would benefit from it" half asked the undead

"I just want good relations, with my empire and the kingdom you will build sir Gown, I am sure we can face any danger from the demon Jaldabaoth to any nuisance together" He pointed out hopefully

"Very well, I accept Emperor Jircniv, but since you were so kind to let me call you by your first name I insist you do the same. I am convinced this alliance will be fruitful, maybe we should declare this day a national holiday what do you think, Oriana?" asked the skeleton seemingly mocking him.

"I have to agree Ainz, we have to celebrate the 'peace' made between our nations" giggled the white haired woman, confirming his suspicion

I am sure you would like that, don't you? He thought grimly.

To celebrate the day you made slaves out of us
