CHAPTER SEVEN

THE HONEYMOON DISASTER

The next morning, Mia woke up feeling like she had barely slept.

She opened her eyes and stared at the ceiling.

For a few seconds, she forgot where she was.

Then she remembered.

She was married.

Mia slowly turned her head.

Nathan was still asleep on the other side of the bed.

She immediately turned back.

Oh my God. I'm really married to Nathan.

Before she could think any further, there was a knock on the door.

"Mia? Nathan?"

Mia sat up quickly.

"Who is that?"

"It's me, dear. Come down for breakfast."

It was Nathan's mother.

Mia sighed and got out of bed.

A few minutes later, both Mia and Nathan were sitting at the breakfast table with his parents.

Everything seemed normal.

Until Nathan's mother smiled.

"So, when are you two leaving?"

Mia looked up.

"Leaving?"

"For your honeymoon, of course."

Mia almost choked on her drink.

"My what?"

"Your honeymoon," Nathan's father repeated.

Nathan looked at his parents.

"We haven't discussed that."

His mother waved her hand.

"There's nothing to discuss. Everything has already been arranged."

Mia stared at her.

"Everything?"

"Yes. Your bags are already being packed."

Nathan sighed.

"Mother..."

"No arguments."

"But—"

"No."

Nathan looked at Mia.

Mia looked at Nathan.

They both spoke at the same time.

"We don't want to go."

His parents looked at each other.

Then Nathan's mother smiled.

"That's exactly why you need to go."

Mia frowned.

"What does that even mean?"

"You two have spent your whole lives knowing each other," his mother said. "Now you're married, and you need time alone to get used to being husband and wife."

Mia opened her mouth to protest.

Nathan's father raised a hand.

"Your car will be waiting after breakfast."

Nathan leaned back in his chair.

"This is unbelievable."

Mia nodded.

"For once, I agree with you."

Nathan looked at her.

"Don't get too comfortable agreeing with me."

Mia rolled her eyes.

"And you're already annoying me."

His mother laughed.

"Perfect. At least you're talking."

---

A FEW HOURS LATER

Mia stood outside the palace staring at the car that was supposed to take them to their honeymoon destination.

She folded her arms.

"I can't believe they actually did this."

Nathan placed his luggage inside the car.

"They did."

Mia glared at him.

"And you're not even going to complain?"

"I've been complaining for the past two hours."

"Not enough."

Nathan looked at her.

"Would you like me to start screaming?"

"Yes."

He stared at her.

Mia smiled innocently.

"Maybe."

Nathan shook his head.

"I already regret this."

"Good. We're finally agreeing on something again."

They got into the car.

The journey began.

For the first twenty minutes, there was silence.

Then Mia looked at Nathan.

"Where are we even going?"

"You don't know?"

"No."

"Neither do I."

Mia's eyes widened.

"What?"

"My parents arranged everything."

Mia stared at him in disbelief.

"So we're being kidnapped by your parents?"

Nathan laughed.

"Basically."

Mia groaned and leaned against the seat.

"This honeymoon is already a disaster."

She had no idea how right she was.

---

When they finally arrived, Mia stepped out of the car and looked around.

The place was beautiful.

The scenery was breathtaking, the hotel was enormous, and everything looked perfect.

For about five seconds, Mia was speechless.

Then Nathan walked past her.

"Come on."

Mia followed him.

Their room was beautiful too.

There was only one problem.

One bed.

Mia stopped in the doorway.

"No."

Nathan turned around.

"What?"

"There's one bed."

Nathan looked at the bed.

Then at her.

"So?"

Mia pointed at it.

"You're sleeping on the couch."

Nathan laughed.

"You've been married for less than twenty-four hours and you're already giving me orders."

"Yes."

"And what if I refuse?"

"I'll push you off the bed."

Nathan smirked.

"You're still the same Mia."

"And you're still the same annoying Nathan."

He shook his head.

"This is going to be a long honeymoon."

---

The first day was supposed to be relaxing.

It wasn't.

They argued over what to eat.

They argued over where to go.

They argued over which activity to try.

They even argued over who had taken the room key.

"Give me the key, Nathan."

"I don't have it."

"You had it last."

"No, you had it."

"I gave it to you."

"You didn't."

"I did!"

Nathan checked his pocket.

He pulled out the key.

Mia stared at him.

Nathan stared at the key.

Then he looked at her.

"Okay."

Mia folded her arms.

"You had it."

"I forgot."

"Of course you did."

They continued walking.

A few minutes later, Nathan looked at her.

"You know, for someone who didn't want to come on this honeymoon, you're complaining an awful lot."

Mia stopped walking.

"Because everything is going wrong!"

Nathan laughed.

"Maybe that's because we're both stubborn."

Mia stared at him.

Then, despite herself, she laughed too.

For the first time since they arrived, they weren't fighting.

They were simply laughing together.

And for a moment, Mia forgot that Nathan was her husband.

He was just Nathan.

Her old best friend.

The boy who used to make her laugh when they were children.

But then Nathan looked at her with that familiar teasing smile.

Mia immediately remembered.

No.

He was her husband now.

And judging by the way this honeymoon had started...

They were going to have a very long week.
