\_Few Hours Before Accidental Kidnapping_/
Heading out that office now that all the documents had been signed off on; technically they weren't approved of however that was out of my hands. Specifically it was now the problem of that hot milf in the bar slash information brokers. Speaking of… Still don't know her name.
Strange how I keep forgetting to ask despite having spent quite some time in her establishment.
Regardless it was about time I actually had some fun for once. I was in a fantasy world inside the adventurers guild, even if the time period was not the usual one you see in stories, so it only made sense to go with the flow. At least until we all gathered together to do the god hunter mission.
Stepping into the main hall caused the hubbub (that had slowly built up while I spent a few hours just reading & signing certificates) to once again grow quiet. Once rambunctious adventurers become mere murmurs as they notice my presence. A satisfactory sensenation may or may not be felt by yours truly.
I didn't linger on a feeling that may or may not feel. Instead I decided to head over to the standard quest board that you always saw - although it was a bit strange seeing it be a literally bulletin board with clearly typed up standardised quest forms. Such a sight got rid of a lot of the rustic charm, admittedly.
There was a reason why my homebase in the real world was in a sleepy town that had essentially been untouched since the 20th century.
Potentially before that.
At the end of the day, a case of appearance though necessary was good, there was simply something inherently appealing about that kind of atmosphere. Still there was no use in complaining. At least this meant that it was easy enough to find what kind of job you wanted to do.
Akin to a grid or spreadsheet type system; where the column decides the rank while the rows are which type of quest it is. Ranging from gathering herbs to guarding convoys full of merchants. There were also varying adventurers required to sign up to these differing quests even when in the same "cell".
Obviously I couldn't do something that would take too long or required too many members - since I had no one to call upon at the moment.
It was also easy to tell which quests had multiple people required as there were multiple identical forms pinned together.
A simple extermination was probably best for that reason.
Looking through them revealed that there were many of such quests available. Hardly surprising given the constant respawning of monsters; if they didn't clear them out the number of monsters would slowly grow to become a monster wave. Such an event wasn't only caused by that but could easily wipe out cities.
It isn't very common on account of the monsters also tearing into one another yet that is only when there are no outside factors at plan.
Not uncommon for a foreign monster to ruin the ecosystem by becoming the new apex.
Bugs were the worst example as they often reproduced far too quickly when they weren't being kept in check by any sort of natural predator. Expanding to the point where they can wipe out countries. Some are more dangerous than others, of course, plus they weren't the only example throughout this world's history.

Humans and their mortal kin certainly are a little bit pathetic.

Goblins sure are creative little fellas considering there aren't even female goblins.
Speaking of goblins; there just so happened to be a quest to wipe out a recently found goblin den before they began to spirit away too many women. Needing them to "expand their numbers" due to the prior mentioned lack of female members. Sadly they never got the "no means no" talk.
I was curious to see just how much power my newly improved weaponry had.

Number 40 ended up blowing up on me but this one looks quite beautiful with just how much more powerful I had managed to pump those numbers up.
Of course those weren't the only upgrades I had managed to make when it comes to weaponry.
My cute little bronze knights are as happy as artificial murder hobos could be.
There was quite a bit, therefore, to try out hence why I was so interested in the number prone little green human shaped targets. Although there did seem to be a few adventurers who had already signed up for this quest… It's only three so I should have plenty of targets.
Worse comes to be I can just pay them off and let me do the quest solo; it wasn't as if my pocket book would be influenced if I gave them ten times what the reward was worth. Money is the last of my problems and is my number two solution. It was a very close competition as well.

… Violence may be involved.
Moving on~!
"Can I get you to approve this job?" I immediately asked the man as soon as I arrived at the counter which appeared to be one of the many in charge of managing this part of being an adventurer. Conveniently everyone stepped away to let me get on with my task; how nice of them all.
Fortunately they seemed to at least be expecting me as they responded with a smile while taking the document I held towards him. Looking through it for a moment only to put it down. "As a registered knight your rank is C rank unless we find reason to demote you which means you should be able to do it alone."
At that he gave me a slightly pitiable smile. "Unfortunately some adventurers have already signed up so you'll have to let them come along; is that potentially okay?"
Honestly I can appreciate his professionalism so I simply nod.
"Thanks for being so understanding - I'll make sure to contact your party members - if they don't arrive at the gate in the next hour we will not chastise you and they will obviously not receive any payment." With that being said he stamped the task with a particular pattern. Essentially a hollowed out square to simplify.
I imagine when the task is completed they'll use another stamp to fill the empty centre which certainly seems like a rather effective method. Showing failure or success will be as simple as just changing with a stamp or even colour is used. Nodding as I quickly took a pen from them to write my adventurer code.
Your regular organisational unique code that is used to denote it is, in fact, me who accepted this quest before preparing to leave the guild to finally finish my first ever adventurer quest.

Well that sure is convenient; guess I don't need to pay too much attention to remembering the specifics of the quests I take if the system will just do it for me.

Yeah… But that would look ugly and be hard to read.
Anyways, it didn't take me too long to arrive at the gate as people tend to let the heavily armoured figures walk by accosted, so I just leaned up against the wall. The guards also didn't bother me for loitering around in the open. Being a knight just came with a whole bunch of advantages as it turned out.
Whether it be players or adventurers they looked upon me with envy yet I mostly ignored their opinions other than the light bout of smugness. Of course the differentiation between players and "npcs" were getting harder as the players began to play the role of adventurers. Was the perfect job for them.
There weren't any required hours, you got plenty of experience along with cash if you were willing to work and you even got to practise your skills if not learn some new ones.
For the adventurers guild they got immortal warriors who could use human wave tactics without fear.
No matter how you look at it, it was a win win.
Unfortunately for me - my party members did not share the excitement of the players - I was left waiting for a bunch of weaklings to arrive.
At least I managed to take advantage of this time.
"Thanks a lot for your help, Dame Porshi, I don't know how we would have dealt with that aggressive drunk if it wasn't for you lending a hand to us!" One of the guards bowed while I just patted his shoulder with a faint laugh. Honestly punching up some drunks was entertaining enough for me.
Other guards cuffed the unconscious man on the floor before they combined their efforts to lug him up from the ground before hauling him towards the cells.
Whether it ends up being a one day trip to let him cool off or something more serious wasn't my problem.
It was about time for me to give up on waiting for those nobodies when I heard some obnoxious laughs as a trio in decent armour waltzed over like they owned the place. Each of them carried quality steel weapons which showed they at least made some nice cash. Other than that they all wore hide or leather armour.
Nothing my family would be caught dead in (not even enchanted) however it was certainly as good as what any D-rank adventurer could hope for. Their leader who was reminiscent of an ogre was the one who approached with a punchable smile. "Heya are you the noble chick we're doin' this goblin quest with?"
Against my better judgement I nodded while resisting every urge I had to just slug them and pretend like they never arrived.
I heard his friends sniggering while whispering between each other about how I was a princess playing pretend which wasn't technically true. They just didn't know how right they were. If they knew what I really was or what I could do I doubt they'd be so cocky but here we were.
"Well you can come along as long as you don't slow us down, however don't expect us to just give away the reward to you afterwards, you're only here to fill numbers so remember that your excellency." Doing an over the top bow at the end. A sight that royally pissed off the guards who I'd been helping out.
Meanwhile some of the players nearby - who seemed to have figured out who I was which wasn't hard since my gamertag was my name - were waiting for a good show.
I merely lifted a hand to stop those guards from interfering as it would be unfortunate if I couldn't get a little bit of satisfaction. From these guys. While doing that I also tapped my wrist computer to quickly make some arrangements as this actually worked out well.
My boys did need some targets.
