After the cleanup was finally over, June leaned against the mop, her arm trembling, her leg aching from having stood so long on her crutch. She thought for certain that, any moment now, the others upstairs would come shuffling back down.
Olivia also seemed to share the same thought, her eyes flicked again and again toward the stairwell, expecting tired footsteps, exhausted giggles, someone wandering down in need of water or help.
But...nothing.
Not a single one of them stirred.
The floor below was spotless now, polished to a shine that almost betrayed the chaos it had just witnessed. The lavender spray June had used drifted through the room, replacing the thick scent of sex with something sweet and delicate.
And so it was just the two of them now, Olivia and June, perched on opposite ends of the ornate velvet couch in the lounge.
The silence was unbearable.
