Chapter 4 - The Apocalypse Starts (I)

"Huh, why does it feel like I am forgetting something important?"

Ace couldn't help but think. He continued to sit on the bed trying to remember what he had forgotten but no matter how much he racked his brain, he just couldn't remember what it was.

After thinking for a while, he decided to go do his usual morning activities. As for what he had forgotten, he was sure he would remember after a while.

However, just as he was about to stand up from his bed, his eyes locked onto his alarm clock.

"Oh sh*t!"

Ace immediately cursed jumping from his bed as he made his way towards the bathroom super quickly. He remembered what was so important now. He was late for school.

Ace quickly, did his usual morning activities before running out of the house struggling to wear his shoe on the way to school.

"Oh sh*t!"

Ace couldn't help but curse again after checking the time and realizing that it was already 7:30 am. Quickly closing the door, he made his way towards an alley directly opposite to his apartment.

He was sure he would be late if he decided to take a Taxi. After all, he stayed quite far away from the school. The traffic alone would be a huge obstacle if he wanted to get to school on time.

He had no other choice other to use one of his techniques. Walking to the quiet alley, Ace immediately scanned the alley and the immediate surroundings. Right after doing that, Ace closed his eyes as he muttered some words subconsciously.

In the next moment, Ace felt a familiar feeling of dizziness as he lost his sense of direction and time, vanishing from the alley completely.

Unknown to Ace, several blocks away from his apartment were two people staring at the place he just left with surprise and shock in their eyes.

The duo, a young boy and an old man continued to stare at the place Aiden teleported for a while after he had teleported away.

"Did he just teleport away?" The young boy asked after a while. This young boy was undoubtedly handsome.

He had long blond hair that slightly revealed his handsome friendly face. His glistening brown eyes which seemed to perfectly march the color of his hair, were currently filled with surprise and shock as he stared in the direction where Aiden had teleported away.

Just from his looks alone, one could tell that he was from a rich family. Rather than being a young boy, he looked much like a teenager.

"Hmmm—"

The old man nodded slowly as he looked at the young boy. Unlike the young boy who gave the aura of vitality, the old man gave a frial and weak aura that made it seem like he was just one step away from the grave.

He was still handsome though, and even though his faced had been overcome with wrinkles, one could still tell that he was very handsome when he was young.

"Grandpa, who is that guy?" the young boy couldn't help but ask.

"I don't know. He must probably be a rogue..." The old man stated in hesitation.

"A rogue? I have never heard of a rogue like him before!" The young boy said with a frown. Unlike the main families that passed down their techniques to their descendants, granting them their magic powers, rogues were fundamentally different.

Rogues were people who had the ability to use magic however, they didn't belong to any huge families.

This was why he was confused. How could someone be as strong Ace and still not belong to any clan or Family?

"Indeed, even I have never seen or heard of him before!" The old man said as his eyes glistened with wisdom.

"See? What are we supposed to do now, grandpa?" The young man asked again.

".... " The old man didn't reply to his question, "You are going to the same school as him right?"

"Hmm.. " the young boy nodded.

"Then be sure to keep a close eye on him," the old man said as he turned to look at the direction where Ace had teleported.

"Em... Okay. But, grandpa, shouldnt we tell the clan chief? If we tell him, he might be able to recruit the rogue boy for us" The young boy couldn't help but ask.

"Who? Your father? Don't be naïve!" The old man sneered. "Your father is stupid aand doesn't think about anything he does.

"You know your father very well. If he finds out about this boy, he would definitely try to kill him and eliminate him so he doesn't become a threat in future. Your father is just that narrow minded!"

"But if we don't tell him, the other clans and families can try to rope in the rogue boy!" The young boy protested.

"You are so close minded! Don't take your father's attitude. I decided to train you so you don't make the mistakes your father is making!"

The old man said.

"You think the boy is stupid? Where are we right now?"

"Greenwich Street?" The young boy answered dumbly. Why would his grandfather be asking him this question?

"No, that is not what I am trying to ask. I mean, which family watches this place?" The old man sneered at his grandson's reply.

"Oh, the Green Family!" The boy said.

"Good. Now think about it this way. Do you think that the Green family don't have string cultivators around? Even their Ancestor is as strong as me. They arent as weak as you think. They are a huge Family after all!"

"However, even they weren't able to find this boy. This means that this boy isn't ordinary. Else, how could we have been the one to find him? It seems like he is baiting us. After all, there is no way a rogue cultivator will be so careless when using his power!"

"Baiting us? Grandpa, you mean he is intentionally showing himself to us and only us in order to make us come to him?" The young boy asked to which the old man nodded.

"But why?" The young boy couldn't help but ask.

"I don't know his motives. This is how I feel though. I think there is definitely something going on!" The old man said before turning around.

"Grandpa, where are you going?" The young boy asked as he saw his grandpa leave.

"Have you forgotten that this part of the city isn't part of our jurisdiction?" the old man replied rather slowly.

"Indeed, well said, ancestor of the Horton family!"

The young boy was about to answer but someone beat him to it. The voice of the person appeared to be filled with exceptional energy and youthfulness.

The young boy turned in the direction of the voice. The moment he did that though, he immediately felt cold sweat trickle down his neck.

Right behind him was an old man with a walking stick looking at him with a smile on his face! No one would the young and energetic voice to sound from this old man at all.

'What kind of pressure is this? I didn't even sense him earlier!' The young boy couldn't help but think as he looked at the old man who just arrived.

"Hmph, will you stop trying to scare my lil' boy with your aura?" The old ancestor of the Horton family snorted and said.

"What? Are you not happy to see me?" The old man who just arrived asked as he reined in his aura making the young man subconsciously let out a breath of relief.

"If I may ask, what brings you two to my Greenwich district?" the old man asked.

"Have you forgotten that today is the day that school starts? I am here to escort my young boy!" The old Ancestor of the Horton family said before looking away dismissively.

"Come on, Sam, let me see you off to school!" The old man said before taking out a device and tossing it into the air.

The device which looked like a brick immediately transformed into some sought of portal that pulsed as if it was a heart.

The old Ancestor of the Horton Family immediately humped into it and disappeared. Sam, not wanting to be left behind also decided to join him jumping into the portal as it finally closed.

After they left, the old man continued to stare at the place they had vanished for a while before suddenly smiling and closing his eyes.

"Something happened, huh... It seems like I have to find out my self!" The old man said looking in the direction of the most popular school in the neighboring Cities and districts.
