As the two made their way toward the edge of the clearing, Moonie glanced at Adam and couldn't help but grimace.
The right side of his face looked like a broken jigsaw puzzle. There was a visible dent in the side of his head, with blood, hair, and bone fragments clumped together in a gory mess.
She didn't understand how he was still alive, much less how he could run and fight alongside her.
"How are you still breathing?" She finally couldn't help but ask.
Adam laughed. His laughter was like the sound of an eerie beast, one that would mingle with the howl of the wind and make you question whether you heard it right in the first place.
He turned to her and grinned. "Out of spite!"
The youth turned back around and hacked the head of an enemy Paladin, who thought he could sneak attack him. "Once I leave this place, I'll hunt the people responsible for this. Their deaths will be long and cruel. I will enjoy every moment of it."
