Mara continued to hunt more beasts and grow stronger, but beasts weren't the only targets. She carried out assassination attempts.
While it was true that she didn't mind if she died in one way or another, she still did everything it took to survive.
It might be because she didn't want to die. It might be because of the hamburger and cola that she kept tasting from time to time.
More and more of her peers died. All this time, Mara had never shown anything special. She might have taken first place many times, but she never used her killing intent openly.
Standing out too much would just make her a target.

"After we're done with them, we will kill all of them. They've become a liability for us. They're not particularly outstanding compared to the other generations, so it would be best to throw them away.
