Chapter 674 - Chapter 674: Daedalus

According to Alaric's calculations, although Hermione and the others had only grasped the basics of the new magic at first, they had been sorceresses for many years.

Their mastery of magical power far surpassed that of ordinary people, and with the innate gifts from their dragon bloodlines, even the most gifted apprentices could never hope to match Hermione and the others in progress.

In this way, the duty of teaching naturally fell to the girls, allowing him to spare his own energy for other matters.

That was what he had thought, until he noticed Daedalus.

When it came to talent in magic, Daedalus indeed could not compare with the dragonborn, but in other aspects, it was a different story altogether.

Especially in logic, anatomy, and spirit studies.

In logic, Miss Hermione, the undisputed know-it-all, always managed to keep Daedalus suppressed, holding firmly to her position as professor.

But Hermione was, after all, the brightest among the girls from the Harry Potter world.

None of the others could be compared with her.

During the six years of foundational teaching alone, the Delacour sisters and Cho Chang had more than once nearly been stumped by her.

Yet Daedalus, relying solely on self-study, with nothing more than basic textbooks and the parts of the library open to students, had nearly caught up to the professors in these fields.

Such talent was nothing short of astonishing.

Under her threat, not only the Delacour sisters and Cho Chang, but even Alaric's other girlfriends worked harder in their studies, none of them wished to be embarrassed in front of their students by being outdone by her.

This indirectly accelerated their mastery of the new magic as well.

Still, even so, Alaric decided that once Daedalus remained at the school for advanced study, he would make an exception and personally guide her.

He could see it now, this girl was truly a rare genius, someone who could reach legendary heights, especially with her gifts in logic, anatomy, and spirit studies.

After realizing the girl's deep interest in subjects like homunculi and the materialization of energy into living beings, Alaric even saw in her the shadow of a familiar figure.

That was a character from an old anime, who bore the same name: Daedalus.

The anime was called Heaven's Lost Property.

In that story, Daedalus was revered as the greatest scientist of the Celestial Nation, inventor of the mighty "Angeloids."

As artificial lifeforms, Angeloids combined human and mechanical traits. Though created as weapons, they possessed true souls, with emotions of their own.

All Angeloids bore wings for flight and eyes for reconnaissance.

Yet those seemingly ordinary wings held unimaginable functions: some wings acted like radars (such as Nymph, the electronic warfare-type Angeloid, whose rainbow-like wings were beautiful to behold).

While the strategic Angeloid Ikaros' wings were designed to seize aerial dominance. Each Angeloid had a unique ability of her own.

Though they were no larger than humans, their power was terrifying. Weapons of the strategic Angeloids were capable of destroying an entire nation.

Although the Angeloids were products of science, they also possessed powers bordering on the magical, for instance, the "cards" capable of granting any wish.

And those "cards" too were inventions of Daedalus.

All in all, Daedalus in Heaven's Lost Property was an extraordinary scientist.

And now, the more Alaric looked at the blue-haired Daedalus before him, the more she resembled that inventor.

Judging from the talent she displayed, if she devoted herself to science, she could indeed reach the same level as the Daedalus from the anime.

Could it be that she truly was that Daedalus?

Or perhaps the worldlines had overlapped?

Thinking carefully, given his butterfly effect, it wasn't impossible that some strange storylines had fused into the Type-Moon world.

After all, the Angeloids under Daedalus all bore names from Greek mythology. Perhaps Synapse itself originated in ancient Greece?

After all, in the history of the Type-Moon world, the predecessors of the Greek gods were powerful mechanical lifeforms from beyond.

Although the current generation of Greek gods had been rebooted into native deities, who was to say they hadn't left behind relics that Daedalus discovered?

Seen this way, the plot connected neatly. Perhaps, in some parallel world, this was exactly what had happened.

The mysteries of the Sea of Chaos were something he had yet to fully comprehend.

But if it were true, then a Daedalus who could create "Angeloids" through science alone might become his most valuable assistant in the study of artificial lifeforms, perhaps even a partner in merging magic with science to create magitech.

With this thought, Alaric immediately declared Daedalus his third personally chosen disciple, to be taught by him directly.

The other students, naturally, looked on with envy at Daedalus' fortune.

But her gifts spoke for themselves. Although she had little talent in combat, magic was not a discipline meant solely for battle.

Whether in her yearly examinations or in the frequent praise she earned while assisting professors, everything proved she was no ordinary student.

And Daedalus did not disappoint Alaric's expectations.

Among all the students, she was not only the first to break through the Seventh Circle, but also became Alaric's assistant in his research on materialized energy lifeforms.

In the research of magitech, one of the greatest difficulties lay in combining the logic language of computers with magic.

Although magic studied logic as well, trigger spells, for example, were a classic application connected to logic, it was still far more idealistic, rooted in concepts.

The logic language of computers, however, was different. For instance, with a creature like a cat: in magic, the concept of the species existed as a matter of course.

But in computer logic, cats and dogs were both merely organic lifeforms, identified either through specific genetic markers or through extensive machine learning based on appearance.

Yet the former was overly complicated, while the latter could be fooled if a cat were dressed up.

In magic, however, a cat was a cat, no matter how it was disguised, this was the difference between the logic of magic and science.

In his research on energy lifeforms, in order to give the created beings both the emotional, soulful thinking of humans and the rational, logical thinking of computers, Alaric combined computer logic with magic, developing a dedicated set of magical runes and their corresponding programming principles.

Unfortunately, since this fusion of science and magic was still in its infancy, the runes and logic were far too complex.

Even Pandora was unwilling to learn them. Up to now, only Daedalus was willing to study them, and able to understand them.
