Chapter 625 - Chapter 625: Blue Crystal

Alaric's consciousness was devoured by boundless truth, but he was fortunate, he did not die or lose his sense of self because of it.

Staring directly into the truth was certainly the fastest way to gain infinite knowledge, but it was not without cost.

Ordinary mortals, in the process of studying and understanding the truth, often find their souls and minds far too insignificant, and the inevitable outcome is assimilation by that very truth.

Those who are assimilated may indeed gain boundless power and become omnipotent beings, but in doing so, they lose all desire and self, becoming sages devoid of identity.

But what difference is there between such beings without self-awareness and the dead?

However, Alaric was different.

Or rather, he had long prepared for this moment.

First, to this nascent world, he was an outsider. The space maintaining his existence was also external to this world.

Because of this, while he could observe the truths of this world, he never truly entered it in essence, thus, the truths of the world could not directly affect his being.

At the same time, he had a helper, Ravenclaw's Diadem.

To Alaric, the diadem's spirit, Helena, was someone he could completely trust.

Before beginning the observation, Alaric had already donned the diadem and linked it directly to his consciousness.

Then, he made a crucial decision: he transferred part of his consciousness's authority to Helena.

In truth, for anyone, this would be a dangerous move, as one's consciousness is the very core of their identity.

Handing over this authority to someone else was equivalent to giving away one's lifeline.

If Helena had even a hint of malice, she could have exploited this authority to possess Alaric's body and, in a way, reincarnate herself.

Of course, Helena would never do such a thing, and Alaric had safeguards in place as well.

In short, it was this authority that prevented Alaric from becoming one of those poor souls, omnipotent yet stripped of self.

According to Alaric's instructions, once he lost consciousness, Helena immediately severed his connection to the outside world, in short, he blacked out.

It was as if Alaric were a computer host, and his senses the external ports.

His observation of the truth was akin to the host collecting data. The influx of information was so massive it nearly caused the system to crash entirely.

In this situation, cutting off the data stream to save the host couldn't be done from within. External intervention was required.

Helena was that external force. With the partial authority entrusted to her, she was able to act in Alaric's place and shut down the overwhelming data stream at the critical moment.

To be cautious, Alaric had ensured that while he trusted Helena, he was also protected.

When Alaric was conscious, Helena's authority ranked below his and was therefore ineffective.

Once Alaric began his observation, even if Helena had that authority, she couldn't do anything like a soul takeover, because the moment her consciousness entered Alaric's soul, both of them would be flooded by truth and become idiots together.

But if she stayed external, simply managing him, that wouldn't happen.

Her method of cutting off the data stream was to force Alaric into unconsciousness.

And once consciousness was shut down, it couldn't be invaded, after all, who could hack into a computer that was turned off?

In the end, no matter how many layers of plans Alaric had made, he succeeded.

He successfully observed and recorded the truths of the world and survived. He neither lost himself nor was assimilated by the Root.

Of course, it came with a cost.

He had remained unconscious for quite some time.

After all, his brain needed sufficient time to process such an immense amount of information.

Moreover, within the Root, the concept of time was meaningless, or perhaps it would be more accurate to say that, even if only a moment passed, reentering the world from the Root could land one at any point in time.

When Alaric awoke again, he was startled to find himself inside a vast, translucent blue space.

This enormous, crystal-like space was actually a perfect cube.

Through its translucent blue walls, ceiling, and floor, Alaric could see countless identical cubes arranged neatly in every direction.

Within the range of his vision alone, there were innumerable blue cubes.

No matter the angle, they seemed to stretch out endlessly in perfectly ordered formation, a testament to the sheer scale of this crystalline structure.

Amid these blue crystal formations, Alaric could clearly see many complex, unknown structures, elaborate patterns and nearly incomprehensible inscriptions, all glowing in unison with a soft blue light.

The beams of light were bright but not blinding, flowing through the space like water.

Upon closer inspection, Alaric suddenly realized that although the movement of these light beams appeared chaotic at first glance, they weren't entirely without order.

At the very least, he could perceive a basic rhythm, almost like... electronic circuits.

If these flowing light beams were akin to electronic circuits, then the massive cubic structure he stood within resembled a colossal computer.

At last, Alaric pulled himself out of the awe inspired by his surroundings and began to examine his own state.

After all, this place clearly appeared to be artificial. He had been unconscious for a while, and now that he had awakened, he was no longer in his original personal space.

What if, while he was unconscious, someone, or something, took advantage and did something strange to him?

Although he had set up numerous trigger-based magical defenses beforehand, who knew whether they would function properly in this new world?

With that in mind, he began checking the status of his magical triggers.

Hmm... everything was normal, it seemed. Apart from a levitation charm that only activates when sensing a rapid fall, none of the other spells had been triggered.

But the biggest surprise was that all of his magic still worked.

That was an enormous revelation.

In most worlds, even if aether, or its equivalent, existed and magic or other supernatural abilities were present, using magic from one world in another didn't necessarily mean it would function properly.

For any type of magic to be effective, it required a corresponding baseplate, akin to a runtime library in computing terms.

The magical baseplate existed between universal rules and the magic itself; only with it could magic correctly interact with the underlying laws.

Without the appropriate baseplate, even if a spell activated, its effects would either be significantly weaker or erratic.

Alaric was able to use Harry Potter world magic and create magic in the World of Warcraft universe precisely because he had brought the magical baseplate of the Harry Potter world with him tens of thousands of years in advance.

But now...

Why could the spells from the World of Warcraft universe function perfectly in this new world?
