"You are incredible, being able to deduce this only with observation, but that does not change the fact that they will fall as soon as they reach the end." Upon hearing what Grace said, André realized that he needed an explanation of what the earth is like.
"Alright, it seems there are things I still need to explain to you. Come with me."
André took Grace to the garden and asked the servants to create a large ball of mud.
"What are you asking them that for?" Grace was full of doubts.
"What do you believe is the shape of this world?" André asked her another question instead of answering her.
"Of course it is flat; otherwise we would not be able to stand upright." Grace answered in a way that left André speechless, although remembering how backward this world was did not surprise him.
"Of course you are wrong; this world is round."
This time it was Grace who was surprised; she could not understand André's logic.
"How is it possible? If it were round we would see it with the naked eye."
Although she trusted André a great deal, Grace could not imagine that the world was round.
"Alright, wait a moment and I will explain it to you in luxurious detail."
The two did not speak further. Grace kept her doubts; she knew it was useless to insist; she only had to wait for André's explanation. After a while a servant approached and said:
"My lord, it is already done just as you ordered."
"Good, thank you very much. Alright, Grace, it is time for the explanation."
Then André began to wander around the garden, under Grace's expectant gaze, without her knowing what he was looking for.
"I found you; exactly you are the chosen one."
Suddenly André bent down to pick something up and in his hands was an ant.
"What do you plan to do with an ant?" Grace asked with consternation at André's actions, which seemed to make no sense.
"Come with me."
Taking her by the hand, André led her to the edge of a small lake that was near the city lord's mansion.
"Hehehe, André is already big enough to play with mud. It seems you are still a child." With her elegant smile she teased him.
"Pay attention to what you will see next."
Ignoring her teasing, André held the ant in his hand and presented it to her.
"Imagine that you are this ant. And as I said, this large ball of mud is the world in which we live."
Then André put the ant on the surface of the mud ball and continued:
"From the ant's perspective, how is it possible to verify that the place where it finds itself is round?"
It was a rhetorical question to continue with the explanation.
"Now I will tell you two probable solutions. The first is to walk in a straight direction until arriving at the point where you started."
Then André took the ant in his hands and moved it away from the large mud ball to then continue with his explanation:
"The second is to move as far away as possible from it, and from the distance be able to appreciate it completely."
André's explanation could not have been clearer.
"Wow, it is incredible! I believe that with this explanation anyone would understand your point. You are a genius, André." Grace was full of admiration for him.
"I call this changing an ant's perspective." André invented a name for his explanation, realizing that it fit him perfectly.
"Hehehe, I wrote it in my diary so that later I can claim it as my authorship." Grace smiled very elegantly. Suddenly her face became a little sad and she was about to ask another question, when André interrupted her and said:
"As for the supposed death, I want you to tell me exactly what the records of the ancient emperor of the world said."
Changing the subject abruptly, André put on a serious face upon saying this. He had already realized that this world was far from being common as it seemed; great secrets were hidden in the darkness.
"Alright, pay attention; I will recite it to you just as I read it:
That is what the first record I read said. In addition, it had a continuation:
—It is said that just after the formation of the Liberty Empire these records were found and the people were stirred up and frightened. But with the passing of time and nothing happening, people began to believe that, whatever the death mentioned by the emperor of the world was, it must have been repelled by him himself. So sailing to the depths of the ocean is a taboo; you should know it." Grace continued insisting on her point.
