Chapter 5 - Prologue: The Night Of the Slaughter

Shayan thought he would not be able to sleep because he had a lot to think about. Unexpected guests and a butt load of information were swirling through his brain cells. However, as soon as he hit the bed, he fell into a deep slumber.

Shayan felt cold as he was sleeping, so he woke up to find something to cover himself. However, as he woke up, he forgot about the cold or anything else. He found himself lying on the floor of his room. The sun was shining brightly, and light was coming through the window. He stood up and looked at the time. It was 8 in the morning. Shayan sat down on his bed and yawned. "I slept on the floor and didn't wake up for college. Nor did someone wake me up." He muttered. Then his eyebrows went up. "Why didn't Mom wake me up? The door isn't locked."

The second he remembered what happened last night, he frowned and stood up swiftly. And rushed downstairs, "Mom, Dad, where are you? Why didn't you wake me up for school?" Shayan's call hung in the air, but no one answered. He opened the door of his mother's room. There was nothing but darkness. He turned the lights on and called his mom. As one might expect, no one answered. He turned the lights off and closed the door. "Where did everybody go?" He asked himself. When he was just standing there thinking where they could be, suddenly he heard the voice of the stairs screeching. As if someone was coming down from them. Shayan turned back. "Is that you, Mom? Where's Dad and Ezra?" No one answered, and the sound stopped as he questioned. Shayan rushed towards the stairs to look up on the stairs but he found no one there.

Shayan stepped on the first stair and was about to step on the next one when suddenly he lost control of his body, and he felt lifeless. His vision became blurry, and his head started spinning. He fainted and fell to the ground, hitting his head on the floor.

After about half an hour, he opened his eyes, but he could not see anything. He could see something red covering his eyes, and he could smell something spilling all over him and all around him. He pulled his back up and sat down. His head was still spinning a bit, Shayan sighed and tried to clean his eyes, but as soon as he opened them, he rushed and stood up. His face was all red, and suddenly a fountain of tears started flowing. He fell to his knees and started sobbing. For a minute or two, he cried aloud. Suddenly, his tears stopped, and he lifted his head. "It's not happening, I'm just dreaming. There is no way this is real. No way--"

He saw his dad's head on the ground as soon as he cleaned his eyes. In addition, his mother's and sister's heads were lying next to his father's. Their eyes were gouged out. Intestines and blood were painted on the walls and ground. It was impossible to tell the difference between the other body parts because they were in pieces. Organs, eyeballs, bones, and guts were lying down as Shayan stood there thinking of it as a nightmare, a dream. However, he had yet to realize that it was not a dream; it was reality. He went to the silent state, denying that this was happening. He wasn't crying now, but water was still pouring down from his eyes.

He rushed towards his dad and took his head in his hands, and then took the pair of eyes he could find near him. And tried to fit those eyeballs in his father's head.

Someone knocked on the door. However, it was numb to Shayan, he was still trying to get the eyeballs in his father's head. He was not crying, just trying to fix them all, put their organs and parts together.

Outside the door was standing their neighbor. He heard someone cry and rushed to see if everything was okay. He knocked more than 15 times, yet no one answered. He stood there for some time but then out of curiosity and worry he glued his eyes in the keyhole but the second he saw what was inside he rushed back and called 15 (emergency number for Punjab police).

Shayan was still standing there, just staring at the bodies. A whole hour passed, but the police still did not come. Usman, their neighbor, was still waiting outside the door, knocking and trying to kick the door open, but he was too skinny and old for that.

He felt relieved when he saw a police car headed toward him. Four officers came out of the car. Usman rushed towards them to tell them what he saw, but they ignored him and rushed for the door. One of them was a large man who broke down the door. All four of them entered the house. Usman waited outside.

More people gathered around. After some time, they came out. One of them, Waleed, looked at Usman. "You are the one who called, right?" Usman said with a cracked voice, "Yes, I heard someone cry, so I came to watch. I knocked, but no one answered, so I looked through the keyhole. That is when — I saw blood and-" Waleed interrupted.

"There is no one in there. No blood, no dead bodies, or anything you mentioned, just dust and spider webs. This house seems to have been closed for years."

A woman, probably in her 40s, came out of the crowd. "Because no one lives in that house. It has been deserted for 7 years." Usman was filled with confusion. "What are you saying? Einar and his family have been living here for 18 years. We all know them."

That woman came near Usman. "They lived here for 11 years, but they were killed by a madman. All of them were murdered 7 years ago. Even though the culprit was caught, you don't remember? You helped the police a lot. Since then, no one has moved here. The murder you talk about happened 7 years ago." Usman tried to convince everyone that he was right, but he was confused about why everyone was acting so weird. Police left the scene and warned Usman to see some kind of psychiatrist. Everyone else thought he was still in shock because Einar was his best friend.

But what he saw was the truth; he saw blood and organs lying around Shayan as he stood in there and looked at his parents and sister. But then what happened? Why did that woman say no one has been living in this house? Why was there no one in the house? What happened in the span of a night? Shayan's parents' dead, not just murdered but slaughtered brutally. Who or what could've done this? Answers are always hidden in the questions, but in this case, even the questions were very confusing.

But the main question is, where is Shayan? What is going to happen to him? What lies in the darkness for him, has he finally found something that will control him? Will this event shatter him or make him a monster of rage???????????????????????

The journey of Shayan has just begun. Hopefully, he is ready for what is coming next.
