We had finally reached the next settlement, and at the moment, all I could really do was sit quietly and watch Elise sleep.
The room itself was fairly calm, which was honestly a relief after everything that had happened. For the first time in what felt like forever, things weren't actively going wrong every few seconds. That alone felt strange.
My eyes stayed on Elise as she rested.
Her chest rose and fell gently with each breath she took, steady and consistent enough to reassure me that she was doing alright. Every inhale and exhale was smooth, without any sign that she was struggling. It wasn't exactly a detailed medical examination or anything, but it was enough to tell me that she was stable.
At the very least, she wasn't getting worse.
Foriel was sitting nearby as well.
"It seems like you're worried about her," she said while glancing in my direction. "Incredibly worried, in fact."
