He didn't want her to study science and engineering, to work in heavy industries, because it was very tough, mentally exhausting, a field of absolute intensity and mental drain.
What he wanted most was just for her to live simply, happily, without needing to strive so hard. So what if she was a lazy person? With him pampering her, taking care of her, protecting her, why worry about how others saw her or what they thought? As long as he was willing, it was a matter between them.
But she had never been more serious; she insisted on going to a science and engineering school, absorbed in books, determined to acquire knowledge, with the ambition to become a career-driven woman. He felt sorry for her being so determined at a young age, yet he didn't forcibly stop her dream or prevent her from moving in that direction.
Since she had such grand ambitions, so be it, he would support her.
