Chapter 102 - Chapter 102 Memories

back in Saudi Arabia

The king was busy giving out instructions about the upcoming banquet when his phone rang. "Speak," He says into the phone. "We have confirmed paternity of the babies, your Majesty." "And?" "The prince is the father, Your Majesty." "And you are certain of this?" "A hundred per cent, your Majesty." "How far along is she?" "Fully eight months, your Majesty." "Bloody hell," The king swears.

"How should we proceed, your Majesty?" "Keep an eye on her for now. Do not let her out of your sight. I will contact you as soon as I reach a decision." "Yes, your Majesty," the guard replied, ending the call. 'Well, this is quite a predicament now, isn't it?' He says to himself, tapping his fingers on his chin.

Mathayus groans as he continues pacing back and forth in his private garden with Diamond and Midnight watching him intently. He knew what this grand event was about; his father had stepped aside for a while, and he was the future king of this country, and he was doing a fine job of running his country so far.

When his father told him that he would be organising this grand event, he knew it wasn't just to congratulate him on the great job he had been doing; no, this event was for another reason entirely.

He knew this moment was coming; he knew he wouldn't be able to avoid this forever. It was time; this grand event was solely for him to choose a wife so that he could produce a future heir for his country.

This was his last chance to get some answers from Liah and to finally get the closure he needed to move on with his life, so with a heavy sigh, he entered the code in his phone, put in Liah's number and pressed send, and just as before, it went straight to voicemail.

He pressed send again and again, but the call went to voicemail. Sighing in frustration, he dialled Anthony's number, which also went to voicemail. Putting his phone on one of the columns, he runs his hands over his face. "You know this is the definition of insanity, right?" He asks Midnight, who growls and rubs his head against Mathayus's leg.

"Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result, what the hell is wrong with me? I know what is required of me, so why am I struggling so hard?" Stupid question, his inner voice chides him. He knew the reason he was struggling so hard was that Liah was still embedded deep in his heart, but holding onto vain memories wasn't doing him any favours.

He needed to move on; she had already moved on, so why was he still holding on? He had deliberately chosen not to contact anyone from the Island because his heart couldn't handle the truth. The truth he already knew in his heart was that he was only a passing phase to her. That thought made his fingers tighten into fists.

He wanted to write a long-winded message to her before leaving, but all he could write was, "Thank you for caring for me when I couldn't care for myself, thank you for the wonderful memories, I wish you all the happiness you deserve ."

That was it, his final few words to her before leaving the Island. His Virgin Island princess. The woman who had wound her way so deep into his heart that now he couldn't seem to eradicate her from his system.

But he had to, for him to fulfil his duty to his country he needed to let her go, he have no other choice, and yes, it was going to be hard developing intimate feelings for someone new when he was still pinning over Liah but again, he had to, no matter how hard it was, this was something he had to do, for the future of his country.

Starting tonight, he would first choose a wife from the maidens his father had selected for him, who were all gathered in the ballroom, anxiously awaiting his decision. After choosing his wife, the rest will eventually fall into place. Even though he knew it was pointless, he took up his phone and dialled her number again and again it went to voicemail.

He then decides to call Jody; maybe he could get some answers from her instead. He was about to dial her number when he saw his father walking towards him.

"I apologise for leaving the party, Father, I just needed some fresh air," he says, bowing to the king. "Your heart isn't in it, even I can see that. Liah is the one you're thinking about, isn't she?" "Yes, she is, but rest assured, Father, even though I might still be harbouring deep, lingering feelings for Liah, I know what is required of me and I will not disappoint you. I will fulfil my duties as the future king of this country." Mathayus says firmly.

"Spoken like a true king. Now, on a different note, I notice that you've been reading this book." The king says, holding up the Bible Mathayus had brought with him from the Island.

"I have, it's Liah's holy book." "Holy book? Pretty hard core for a holy book, isn't it?" "My thoughts exactly, but it has its tender moments." "I have so many questions," the king says with a snort. "As do I, father," Mathayus replied, mirroring his father's snort.

"Okay, conversation for another time then, now as for the matter at hand, has any of the young ladies in there caught your eye yet?" "I haven't really been making an effort, but I intend on changing that once I get back in there." "I like that attitude, but tell me, will you be able to commit to one of those ladies in there?"

"To produce an heir, I will have to." "But will you be able to love her as you love your Island princess?" "I will honour her, respect her and remain faithful to her, but I will not be able to love her as I do Liah," Mathayus says, biting his bottom lip to suppress the tears forming in his eyes.

"I see, alright then, before we head back inside, come and have a drink with your old man, huh?"

"As you wish, Father." Mathayus nods, following the king towards his private study. "Has your health improved, father?" Mathayus asked, taking a seat opposite the king. "Yes, it has son, a lot actually and even though you have been doing an excellent job of running this country and making me extremely proud, I was thinking that after tonight you could step down for a while and focus on starting your family," the king suggested with a smile.

"As you wish, father." Mathayus nods respectfully. "You know that I love you, right?" the king asks. "I do," "Just know that everything I do from here on is solely base on my love for you, okay." "Yes, father."

"Okay then, to your future." The king raised his glass, and Mathayus raised his also; their glasses clinked against each other, after which they both raised them to their lips.
