Chapter 21 - Chapter 21 Not A Date

The city had calmed down after the sqacequake brought by Mordred's arrival. The people left the safe shelters and went about their daily lives. Constructions workers quickly entered the site of the city where Mordred had unleashed her Noble Phantasm. Luckily for those who property or homes that got caught up in it, the city was very generous in helping these people get back on their feet or replace the destroyed property.

Inside a burger joint that reopened once the shelters opened up again, Mordred sat at a table eating away at a massive burger with jumbo fries and soda. She had dismissed her armor, now wearing a dark red suit pants and jacket, a white buttoned up shirt and dark red tie along with finger-less black gloves. Incursio was put inside a bag meant for carrying a sword, something she bought since not every world was like Remnant where openly carrying around an entire arsenal was normal and encouraged.

Across from Mordred was the blue haired girl she met earlier, Shiori who hadn't touched her meal once. She was more focused on the fact that Mordred was on her twentieth burger, along with a large pile of burgers that was rapidly getting smaller.

'Her stomach is an abyss like Tohka's...' Was what she thought.

Mordred set down her half-eaten burger and began to speak. "So, are you familiar with the clowns who attacked me?"

"Huh? Yes?" Shiori responded unconsciously, making Kotori facepalm.

"So, what can you tell me about them. I'd prefer knowing their numbers, base of operations and motives" Mordred at this point had guessed that this was Date A Live simply by seeing Shiori make poor attempts in hiding the fact that she is communicating with someone through an earpiece and how she looked familiar enough for Mordred to try and remember where she had seen her before. If it hadn't been for that or the giant warship currently flying above them that she could sense, she would have never guessed this was Date A Live. After all, it had been years since she watched the anime, so small details were forgotten over time.

She was also interested in the magic armor used by the AST, and wanted to bring a few sets back, purely out of curiosity and her habit of collecting and hoarding items. But one thing was on her mind at this moment.

'Why did Shido get genderbent?' This is what she truly wanted to know. Every world she visited so far had no problems with characters being changed so why now?

'Well at least she's cute and easy to look at' Her gaze then discreetly went down to observe her breasts. 'Tch, I got genderbent too! So where the hell are my boobs!?'

Meanwhile, Kotori was communicating with Shiori.

"Onee-san, Knight's emotional state just dipped. Big negative spike." Kotori warned her sister.

"Huh? Why, I didn't do anything?" She whispered.

"Maybe you're taking too long to answer her question, it would probably be best to answer her truthfully for now" Kotori said as she observed Mordred's mood.

Shiori whispered into her earpiece. "But I don't know that information..."

"I know, but you do know why they are targeting her. Just tell her why, you can slowly build up trust"

Mordred on the other hand, decided to bury her sorrows by eating another burger, until she froze. 'Wait, I'm not paying for this right? Does this place take Lien? Should I start targeting gangs here as well to gather money?'

"Umm... The people who attacked you are the Anti-Spirit Team, they are a special team of wizards that are a part of the Japan Ground Self Defense Force. Their purpose is to eliminate spirits as soon as they appear"

"Um," Mordred hummed. "Anything else?"

"Sorry, but that's all I know..."

"I see, anyway moving on, why did you invite me here?"

She already knew the answer, of course. The real goal was clear—win her over, take her on dates, and eventually seal her powers. That last part? Absolutely not happening. But the date part? Well, she'd never had one in her past life... but she definitely wouldn't say no, if it was a proper date without the sealing part.

Shiori took a deep breath, and with steeled resolved, looked Mordred in the eye. "I want to go on a date with you"

There was a pause.

"No thanks," Mordred replied flatly.

Shiori's resolve crumbled in an instant.

Kotori's voice practically shouted in her ear, "Don't give up now, Onee-san!"

A long, awkward silence settled over the booth.

Shiori sat there, her courage crumbling, staring down at the tray of untouched food like it held the meaning of life. Mordred just continued eating, planning on bailing soon so she wouldn't have to pay.

Up in the floating warship overhead, Kotori groaned. "This is going nowhere. Time to intervene."

She tapped a few keys on her console, grinning like a devil.

BZZZZZT

A loud, cheerful chime rang out through the burger joint's speaker system, followed by a synthetic voice blaring over the intercom:

"Attention valued customers! Today only: it's time for our limited-time 'Burger Queen Dating Challenge!'"

Mordred blinked. "...what?" Her mind then wandered back to the warship overhead. 'This has to be Kotori's doing'

"If you and your special someone can complete our Ultimate Lovers Meal—twenty jumbo burgers, two mountain-sized fries, and the Colossal Cola Tower—within twenty minutes, your meal is absolutely FREE, and you'll win a pair of exclusive 'Love Champion' pins!"

Mordred's head slowly swiveled toward the counter.

Shiori stared, mouth open. "What the hell..."

Kotori's voice came through her earpiece, smug and unbothered."Say hello to Plan D' Desperate Date Deal!" Shiori really wanted to question her younger sister's way of naming things.

"But, what if she says no again!?"

"She won't."

Mordred would never turn down free food if she could help it, just looking at the image of the Ultimate Lovers Meal made her hunger return.

Mordred slammed a fist onto the table with the force of a knight accepting a grand quest. "I'm in."

"Wait—seriously?" Shiori blinked. You just said—"

"I said no to a date," Mordred cut in, raising a finger. "But I never say no to free food."

A waitress, clearly confused but playing along, approached the table with a forced smile and two comically oversized trays.

"Congratulations! You've been randomly selected to participate in the challenge. Your twenty-minute timer starts... now!"

Two massive stacks of burgers were placed in front of them, along with two monstrous fries and a soda tower tall enough to double as a club.

Shiori turned to Mordred with wide eyes. "We're really doing this?"

"Damn right we are."

Shiori paled at the sight of all the food. 'Kotori I can't handle this!'

The moment the timer started, Mordred dove in like a knight charging the battlefield.

Her hands were a blur—burger in one, soda in the other. With all the grace of a starved warrior at an all-you-can-eat buffet, she devoured the first burger in three bites and moved on without pause.

Shiori, meanwhile, stared at her own mountain of food like it had just declared war on her digestive system.

"W-We're supposed to eat all of this?" she whispered, lifting a bun with trembling fingers.

"You're embarrassing me, Onee-san! At least try to act like you can eat!"

Shiori groaned, trying not to gag as she forced another bite in. "This is so much food..."

Shiori truly thought today would be her last.

...

By minute ten, Mordred was halfway done, even starting to eat Shiori's portions. A small crowd had gathered near their booth—phones out, recording the carnage. A few were whispering, some cheering.

"She's not even chewing!" one teen gasped.

"...She's built different"

Shiori had managed a burger and maybe a handful of fries. Her stomach was already protesting. She had lunch before she came here with Mordred, and now she was regretting it.

Kotori was howling with laughter in the background, and Shiori could hear all of it through the earpiece. She vowed to get back at her sister at some point.

...

With a dramatic final bite, Mordred slammed down the last burger, wiped her hands on a napkin.

Timer: 16:47

Applause broke out from a few booths.

The waitress returned, still bewildered by the whole situation, and placed two cheap heart-shaped pins on the table.

"Congratulations... You are now... the 'Love Champions.'"

Mordred simply tossed her pin into her inventory. She was satisfied by the meal, and happier that she didn't have to pay or else she would have to dine and dash and have Shiori pay for it all.

'My appetite keeps growing everyday... at this point its going to become a problem. I'll have to look into potential solutons'

...

Mordred now stood outside the resturant, wondering what her next move should be. She was quite interested in this world and didn't want to leave empty handed, but there was a problem. 'I never watched past season three and most of my information comes from fanfics I read'

She didn't know what to do in this world, and she didn't know what powerful beings were still in hiding at this time.

'Maybe I should just assault the AST headquarters and steal some equipment then leave this world. Oh right, I still need to explore the new things in the system after that update' Then she sensed something and turned her head toward that direction.

Shiori was walking up behind Mordred, as Mordred was a spirit, she didn't have anywhere to go so Shiori was going to offer her a place to stay.

"Onee-san, we detected another spirit in the area! It's Nightmare!" Kotori said with urgency.

"What do I do?"

"For now, focus on Nightmare. Your progress with Knight is in a very good state so it should be fine to shift priorities"

"Umm Okay." Shiori turned to Mordred to say a quick excuse and depart, but Mordred had disappeared.

"Eh? Kotori, Knight is gone!"
