Chapter 450 - Chapter 450 - The Destruction of Casterly Rock.

Caraxes is a giant eagle. It was a mistake in the previous chapter, okay?

---------------------------------------

Third Person POV

Casterly Rock, 300 AC.

---------------------------------------

It wasn't very difficult to take control of Lannisport. The sheer number of ships immediately made all the men guarding the port city for the Lannisters, who were already few in number, cautious, especially since Lannisport was easily exposed for a fleet to attack with little resistance.

The stop in front of Casterly Rock also did not go unnoticed, nor did the explosions in the middle of the castle, leaving it destroyed, which had historically been considered quite safe against any attack due to its position and natural defenses. But it seemed the Arcticans did not fit within those limits that were obvious to the common sense of those people.

Ser Perry Hill, from the lands of House Jast, was the current commander of Lannisport's soldiers. He was a man of great trust to Kevan Lannister, personally appointed by him as the deputy commander of the city guard, while the actual commander had gone with the army summoned by the lord himself, leaving him behind to take charge.

He received reports directly while one group headed toward Casterly Rock by land, climbing the cliffs to assess the situation. Other men tried to call for reinforcements from other regions, which was not very promising, but they would certainly try to help however they could. Now, however, it all seemed pointless.

"What should we do, my lord?" one of his men asked.

While Ser Perry Hill merely stared at the horizon, seeing his expression, everyone already knew that this would be a futile battle.

"We're going to surrender," he said simply.

Some of the men looked at him as if they could not believe his decision.

"We're going to surrender. There's nothing more we can do here. It's a pointless fight for all of us." He insisted. Most of his men nodded, while others still seemed willing to fight and die for Lannisport, but seeing how few they were, they eventually accepted it as well.

The ships reached the harbor at that moment. Quickly, short armored men jumped off them to begin securing the ships with ropes. Other men, also of short stature, along with normal-sized soldiers, all clad in Valyrian steel armor, rapidly disembarked in search of enemies, while the Lannister soldiers began throwing their weapons to the ground and raising the banner.

The city was terrified. How could it not be? People began leaving Lannisport. Others locked themselves inside their homes and, if they had basements or attics, immediately hid their families there. Those who had neither simply tried to hide and prayed they would not be looted.

It was a gamble for Ser Perry Hill. When Tywin himself invaded King's Landing, the entire city suffered. The same could very well happen to Lannisport, especially considering who their enemy was at that moment.

"So that's it? Surrender?" asked a man as short as the Lannister dwarf, wearing remarkably impressive armor and carrying a gigantic hammer that a man of his size should never have been able to wield. He looked at everyone with a hint of disappointment.

Ser Perry Hill swallowed hard, as did everyone seeing those dwarves for the first time, since Perry Hill had not held a position in Lannisport when Arctic had visited this place before.

In any case, all the soldiers of Lannisport stared at them, wondering how someone so small could be so intimidating and carry such heavy things with such ease.

I mean... The rumors say their swords are light, made from some kind of special metal, so that must be it. But that full suit of Valyrian steel armor... It's very different from any dwarf I've ever known.

Another person stepped off the ship while others flanked him. It was obvious that he was the leader.

Ser Perry Hill swallowed hard as he realized that the man looked exactly as people described him, the king of that realm and of all those people. After all, not just anyone possessed armor so distinct from the others and had glowing green eyes, almost like two emerald beacons.

"So you're the commander of this city?" the man asked as soon as he appeared, unwilling to waste any time.

Ser Perry Hill nodded. "Yes, sir," he replied.

"It's king, Lannister man... You may say, Your Majesty or King of Arctic. Use the proper words," someone mocked from among Jon's men.

Many Arcticans began laughing throughout the harbor, which was being filled by more and more men disembarking while the ships began taking positions all around it.

The men felt somewhat uncomfortable with that, but they showed no anger, not when they could be killed right then and there.

The king looked at them as he scratched his chin thoughtfully. "Well, at least they surrendered faster than Casterly Rock," he remarked.

That answered some of those soldiers' questions. After seeing parts of the castle collapse, it seemed that, in the end, that display of power had had its intended effect. Even so, it did not make them feel any calmer.

"Well, well... There's no more time to waste. Make everyone surrender. Search for anything in the city that could pose a danger to us. Take control of it and search every part of Kevan Lannister's mansion. We'll send a force out of the city, marching toward Casterly Rock," Jon ordered.

His men quickly began to move. The Lannisters were taken prisoner, while Ser Perry Hill's eyes widened in shock as he saw giants jumping from the ships onto the harbor and advancing to carry out the king's orders.

Before long, the entire city had been taken over by the Arcticans. Some went searching for any threats, locating hidden men with the help of falcons and other birds, as well as dogs that swept through the entire city. One group of Arcticans took control of the mansion, searching through documents and the estate itself. The wealth and the most important documents were all transferred to Casterly Rock, much to no one's surprise.

Jon, however, did not concern himself much with Lannisport. He brought his monstrous direwolf, Ghost, off the flagship and, alongside his men, marched with a large force toward the already conquered Lannister stronghold.

"My king, shall we proceed according to the plan?" one of the men asked while they were outside the city, as he needed to organize another withdrawal of men and resources to march across the western lands.

Jon nodded. "Yes. Bring out all the wildfire," he ordered.

His dwarves quickly began unloading the gigantic iron crates from the ships. He continued advancing at the front alongside a group of Arcticans toward Casterly Rock.

The men who had come to reinforce Casterly Rock also asked to surrender. There was nothing left to do now that both Casterly Rock and Lannisport had fallen. They were trapped there with only two hundred men.

What else could they do? So they knelt and laid down their weapons.

Jon instructed his dwarves to keep an eye on them, and the castle was opened once more, with its bridge connecting to the cliffside.

"Empty the entire treasury and every secret chamber in the castle," he ordered.

His men, who had been given a map showing where the treasury was hidden, quickly headed there. Genna Lannister became quite terrified when she realized the Arcticans already had an idea of where the family's treasure was, watching gold after gold being carried out from the half-destroyed castle.

Jon did not care. Before long, the gold was being loaded onto wagons to be transported to the ships in Lannisport.

"You know, we don't really need piles of gold anymore, but it's very satisfying to rob the Lannisters," Jon said to the woman.

Genna looked deeply distressed as she watched her family's gold being taken away while she herself was also escorted out of Casterly Rock.

She watched everything with complete dissatisfaction, but also with a sense of defeat. What else could be done? She had lost her home.

Jon had a certain plan. After taking everything of value from Casterly Rock, there were the documents, many of them—loan contracts, land deeds, and everything else one could imagine. Neither Genna nor Tywin had gotten rid of those, although Jon knew the most important ones were probably kept in the Iron Bank in Braavos, at the very least.

There were even ancient treasures, and since he had conducted research using Greensight on the major castles of Westeros, as well as placing some rats to search for secret passages some time ago in an effort to thoroughly clear out the castle, he managed to find them. It even shocked the woman to see some ancient treasures being removed. Jon did that partly to provoke the Lannisters, since he even took things the woman herself had never known existed.

Jon knew there were other treasure-filled areas inside the Rock, but today would not be the day he claimed them... The castle was quickly emptied. Every man, servant, soldier, and even the bodies of the fallen were removed. No one remained.

"Hey! What are you planning to do?" Genna shouted, overcome by the worst possible premonition, as she tried to get Jon's attention. He had already mounted his monstrous six-meter-tall direwolf and was talking with Arya.

"Lady Lannister, I ask that you come with us. You won't have to worry about Casterly Rock anymore," Jon said.

She did not like the sound of that at all, especially when barrels of wildfire were placed on the drawbridge.

"Blow it up."

That was all Jon ordered.

The next instant, the bridge exploded completely. The only means of access to the castle from the cliffside was destroyed. Even the birds and other animals that had been inside Casterly Rock abandoned the place before the explosion, which made Genna even more worried about what was about to happen.

She kept shouting, but Jon paid no attention to her pleas. Meanwhile, she was taken to Lannisport and placed aboard one of the ships, along with all the other lords being held hostage.

A group of ships had been ordered to leave Lannisport an hour earlier, while Jon left the city under the command of one of his other men before mounting Caraxes once again and flying into the sky, taking Genna with him.

The nearly one hundred ships were once again positioned in front of Casterly Rock.

Jon flew over the area. He did not want to miss the spectacle.

This was the message he wanted to send to Tywin. Soon, he would leave him another message, and he was not talking about the Twins.

The explosion of the bridge was only the beginning. Soon afterward, massive impact explosions caused by the harpoons carrying wildfire began striking the castle.

It was no longer just a single tower like last time. This time, it was all of Casterly Rock.

Genna was forced to watch everything. It was a direct order from Jon.

Was it cruel? Yes.

But all he could promise Joy Hill was that he would spare whoever he could from her family. He had said nothing about Casterly Rock. After all, he needed to avenge his family, his baby brother, Elia, and his uncle Ned.

The Lannisters would never be the same after that day. Just as Harrenhal had once lost its significance as the greatest castle of a lord three hundred years ago, Casterly Rock, despite being the symbol of House Lannister, would also be consumed by destruction.

The attacks quickly began striking both the Rock and the castle.

The next moment, the explosion came. Jon was in the sky by then, having left Genna aboard the ships.

Caraxes let out a cry in the sky with Jon in his saddle, disturbed by the explosion, before the two of them watched the blasts spread, sending massive chunks of stone flying in every direction. Jon had to make Caraxes veer away and put some distance between them, while the witnesses watched parts of the castle begin to crumble.

Entire towers began collapsing, while others simply ceased to exist, hurling debris in every direction.

"No!" Genna screamed from the ship, watching in despair as Casterly Rock ceased to exist.

"Here," a man said, placing a scroll, a quill, and an inkpot before her while she still stared in disbelief, even before the destruction of Casterly Rock had completely finished collapsing.

The man in command looked at her.

"You will write to Tywin everything that happened, but without giving any details about us. Write exactly what happened. Our king ordered you to do this."

"I won't write that."

"Very well. We'll throw your son into the sea," the Arctican said.

Genna did not even have time to react before enormous tentacles began emerging from the water.

"Those are krakens. The king keeps them as pets. He personally had Balon Greyjoy devoured by one of them. Your son can be too."

"No! Get that thing away from me!" Genna was terrified at that moment.

"Then write. You have about two minutes. Otherwise, your son will be swallowed by it," said one of the Arctican men, who, despite bluffing, was enjoying himself at the woman's expense.

With her hands trembling from nervousness, she began to write. The letters were quite crooked, as the Arctican men could see, but they were still legible.

After she finished, they carefully examined the letter to ensure she had written nothing beyond what was allowed. They searched for any hidden messages, even reading words formed by the first letters or anything arranged diagonally within the text, among other things, looking for any information that could compromise the Arctican army in the next battle.

Jon finished watching the cloud of dust raised by the destruction of the castle while the remaining debris fell into the sea beneath the giant rock, and his men gave a positive signal regarding Genna's letter.

The information he received through his animals confirmed that everything had gone according to plan. Satisfied, Jon quickly took the letter that would be sent to King's Landing to a raven.

He wanted that damned lion to experience what it felt like to lose his home, to watch it be destroyed.

The actions of more than nineteen years ago had consequences. Consequences Tywin could never have calculated. This time, it was House Lannister that was reaping what it had sown.

After all, they always said they paid their debts. Jon also had a debt with them ever since he discovered who he truly was.

He had not known the truth when he first visited Lannisport. Had he known that he had a brother murdered on that damned man's orders, he might have started a war in Lannisport the very day he brought Jaime Lannister there, even if it meant giving up the iron and other resources that Arctic needed at the time.

Jon had even made a joke, saying he wanted Jaime Lannister's weight in iron—dozens of tons. Of course, not even the Lannisters possessed that much iron, but they still provided him with a huge amount of it, quickly gathered in Lannisport.

Now, Jon could finally return to that place and take his revenge.

Take revenge for what they had done.

Even if no one sang a song glorifying it, one day they would sing of that vengeance. Just as "The Rains of Castamere" marked the rise of the Lannisters, that day would be remembered as the beginning of their downfall.

The old lion believed he could kill dragon cubs. The problem was that he hadn't killed them all. And the dragons grew. They grew until they were strong enough to repay everything the old lion had done.

Jon landed Caraxes. Unfortunately, some of the massive rocks hurled by the explosions struck a few ships. His men quickly began rescuing the soldiers and salvaging the resources from the vessels. One of the ships had been hit directly by a huge boulder and had suffered serious damage.

Fortunately, no one had died, though several had been injured. His three krakens managed to support the ship to keep it from sinking.

Jon was the first to deal with the situation. He personally healed the men who had been injured by the rocks and the impacts, then ordered the krakens to push the damaged ship back to Lannisport, where it was to receive immediate repairs.

After that, Jon went to deal with matters aboard the ship where Genna was being held.

He had separated all the prisoners. Genna was not kept with Lady Mormont and the others. Greatjon Umber, Edmure, and the girls were also distributed among different ships.

"Bring me that maester," Jon demanded as he looked at Genna, who was crying as they returned to Lannisport.

She did not want to be humiliated any more than she already had been by them. She did not want to give them the satisfaction of feeling victorious after forcing her to write that letter.

Well, it did not matter. The letter was already on its way to King's Landing by then. As she looked at him with obvious hatred, Jon merely snorted and gestured for his men to lower their swords.

"Leave this woman alone."

Jon approached her, knelt in front of her, and said,

"I told you I would spare you. Look, I promised your niece that. But honestly, Tywin Lannister owes me an enormous debt, and I've even considered wiping out nearly the entire Lannister family." Jon spoke in a serious tone, causing her to look away. Fear quickly took hold of Genna. She feared that both she and her son would be executed.

"You know very well that if I acted the way your brother did, I would have killed every last one of you and left no final survivor. Consider yourself fortunate to still be alive, because I'm not acting according to my most vengeful desires." Jon explained with apparent calm, but there was an unmistakable coldness in his eyes as he stared directly into Genna's green eyes.

"Anyway, not everything you're about to witness will be bad. Haven't they brought the maester yet?"

His men brought up a very thin and frail maester from the cells. The moment he looked at Jon, he immediately swallowed hard. This was Maester Hollis of Casterly Rock.

"You know... I intend to take this away from Tywin too," Jon explained to Genna.

There was no need to say anything more. He was about to take from Tywin one of the things he should value the most... So valuable that the man would probably not have traded it even for a Valyrian steel sword at that moment.

Jon was taking away his chance to take revenge on the man who had taken perhaps the most important person in Tywin Lannister's life, Joanna Lannister. He would also send another letter to Tywin after that... along with a head...

Now, he needed to deal with the man who was now kneeling before Genna and the others, looking at Jon with obvious fear.

"You're the maester who poisoned Joanna Lannister during her pregnancy..." he began. "Normally, I wouldn't care much about this matter. But you know... You were trying to eliminate someone who, despite not being a direct member of my family, was suspected of being a Targaryen... You were trying to kill us, and I take that personally... Besides, you were following the Citadel's orders to destroy the Targaryens. That, in a way, concerns me very much." Jon paused briefly before continuing.

"If you were like any other man wearing that damned maester's chain..." He looked at the man coldly. "...I could give you an easy death. Cutting off your head would be quick. But I think that would be far too merciful."

"I'm not that fair."

Jon turned to his men.

"What kinds of poisons did we find in his chambers?" he asked.

The soldiers began reporting everything they had found.

"So he has the Strangler? They say it's a horrible way to die," Jon remarked before looking back at the maester.

The man began to tremble.

"My lord... Please..." he begged.

"It's my king, you damned maester!" someone shouted.

Jon merely raised his head.

"We shouldn't care about the words of a dead man."

His words echoed as his men brought over one of the poisons.

"Open his mouth," Jon ordered.

The man was quickly restrained. He struggled and twisted, trying to break free from the Arcticans' grip, but he couldn't.

Jon simply took the vial, stood in front of the man, removed the stopper, and poured the liquid directly into his mouth.

What he was doing was cruel. Yes. Death by the sword would have been far more honorable. But that man did not deserve such honor.

Everyone quickly stepped back as they watched the man begin to convulse violently. Veins bulged all over his body, his skin changed color, and he screamed and muttered incomprehensible words as he writhed in agony.

Genna, at least, seemed satisfied as she watched the man die that way.

"Unlike Tywin, at least you got to witness this. Lady Genna Lannister, you should feel honored," Jon said, noticing her reaction.

He then turned to his men.

"Now cut off his head. I'm going to write a letter to Tywin, and we'll send this man's head to King's Landing as well."

Jon simply gave the order while his men quickly obeyed.
