Chapter 23 - Chapter twenty-three: birthday (2)

Xavier watched as the caretaker stuck his wrist into Waylon's open mouth. Resting it right on his moist, red tongue.

"What are you doing?" Asked Xavier angrily, staring at the caretaker intensely.

Ignoring Xavier's presence, the caretaker held his wrist in Waylon's mouth. Counting the seconds that passed>

Waylon should have at least a little desire for blood. It's his awakening day for goodness' sake. It should have already been jump-started by the String family, after digesting that girl from yellow.

"Our plan, does it mean nothing to you?" Xavier asks again, his voice trembling with tears of acid dripping from his eyelids. "One day, and your loyalty is lost."

"Xavier, if you have the means of defying the String family come here yourself." Says the caretaker.

The String family is betting on Waylon. An amnesiac who can't even comprehend the idea of magic. Over, the current head of red. Who had been overseeing the affairs of the estate for the last several years. Why am I not surprised?

"Why would the String family want YOU to awaken him?"

Unable to listen to this nonsense any longer, Linsey returns to the west wing. Brushing shoulders with Xavier as she enters the room with no trouble at all.

For the love of all things holy, is everyone openly trying to declare war on me today? Fuck, I hate you Linsey. I hate your close proximity. I hate the way you get everything you want. I hate that you have everything I will never have, at the disposal of your fingertips. You should just die. Linsey of Asha. I will make sure to kill you myself.

I am the leader and will be the leader for as long as W.S. permits.

Sensing Xavier's anger, Linsey simply sighed.

"You're worse than me." Linsey comments, running her fingers through her curly black hair. Approaching the caretaker like a dominant queen.

If Waylon had any desire to bite the caretaker and awaken himself, he would have done so already.

"Oooh, I have an idea..." Linsey whispers, brining her finger to her mischievous lip. "Do you think if we find someone he really hates, he'd bite them?" Linsey said mockingly, turning her eyes to the floor.

The caretaker acknowledged Linsey, unlike the pig barking at him, she possessed noble blood worthy of the estate. Her loyalty is undeniable; however, her motives are questionable. If he had a top pick for most likely to inflict mass genocide, Linsey is without a doubt number one. But as the caretaker, he had to listen to her since she'd marry into the String family soon enough.

"Tell me, Xavier, do the twins hate you as much as I do?"

Xavier wanted to strangle the girl, her neck would snap so easily within his grasp. Finally silencing her loud, gaping mouth.

"You will not forcibly awaken Waylon." Barked Xavier, placing his hands up against the doorway.

Two-String backed players versus the charismatic leader of red. He did not want to admit it, but Xavier wasn't stupid. His word meant nothing in the presence of the "powerful." No matter how much his magic progressed, he will never have the same affinity for the house than she. Linsey is the daughter-in-law. Even if he could enter the west wing, their is no guarantee he'd be able to wake him. If anything, it is in his best interest to walk away. More likely than not, the caretaker won't be able to wake him on his own.

So, for the first time Xavier decided to be the bigger person. He took one last look at the collapsed teenager before turning his head and proceeding to make his exit.

Linsey contemplated for a moment, resuming the raking of her fingers through her thick, curly black hair. To test her theory or not.

Linsey reached inside her pocket, fiddling around with a small dagger. Slipping her slender fingers around its handle. It looks like you won't be having any character development today, she thought. Turning her attention directly towards Xander, labeling his back with a big bold X. Hurling the dagger directly into his pale, bony flesh.

Xander screamed in agony, dropping to his knees. Shutting his red eyes tightly. He wouldn't look. He couldn't look. As his own blood streamed onto the floor, engulfing the entire room with his scent.

Just who do you serve Linsey? He so desperately wanted to shout, but the words wouldn't escape his throat.

"Retrieve my dagger for me." Linsey commanded, watching at the estate, gave in to her simplistic wish. Within a couple of blinks, Linsey held the bloodied dagger in her left hand, preparing to feed the sleeping twin.

Linsey took hold of the caretaker's wrist, painting it with the dagger until it was nearly coated in blood.

Waylon's breathing began to quicken, his chest visibly rising and falling at an increasing speed. Soon, his pink lips parted. Revealing a pair of miniature white fangs. It was almost cute. Slowly sinking them into the piece of flesh, forced onto his tongue.

It seems he did hate Xavier enough to want to kill him unconsciously.

"When playing a game with the String family, one should play it the right way. If you wanted to win your little bet with W.S. you should have brought the twins here together." Linsey reminded everyone, as if her morals were on a higher level in comparison to everyone else.

The caretaker winced in pain, as Waylon began to drink greedily from his wrist. Drops of blood dripped down his lips and onto the floor, staining its wooden boards.

The feeling of the child in his arms brought a sense of familiarity. It is his duty as the caretaker to make sure Waylon isn't too badly mangled. Part of him wished he could have left The Estate in the hands of Linsey and kept an eye on the future competitors as children to ensure their educational needs were being met. As much as he wanted Xavier to finally win against W.S. it wasn't worth sacrificing his ties to the String family.
