Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

In the dim alley, Chainsaw Man was chowing down next to Kobeni, now back to his human form. Kobeni sat on the concrete, legs crossed, waiting for him to say something. But all he did was keep scarfing down the burger remains. He paused and looked up, sticking his finger into the burger, searching for something. He pulled out a slice of tomato and tossed it aside.

"Wh-who are you?" the anxious girl asked, shifting her sitting position. "I thought you were a devil." "I don't feel like a devil. I feel hungry," he replied with his mouth full. A piece of meat fell out, and he picked it up from the ground, briefly grossing out Kobeni by putting it back in his mouth before spitting it out and wiping his face with a blood-covered hand. "Girls don't like that stuff. I have to be careful," he thought, recalling an old magazines advice about what women like.

Kobeni watched as he paused, lost in thought. The whole interaction was awkward. "Should I call someone?" she wondered. If he was a fiend, maybe she should call Aki. But the thought of Miss Makima made her dismiss that idea. "I don't want to give this guy to Miss Makima," she thought, recalling the experimental division. "I'm a devil hunter i should call this in." Kobeni wondered about hiring this guy obviously he knew a thing or two about devil hunting. "Have you ever fought devils before now?" she asked dumbly "Yes, I am a devil hunter," he seemed to recognize what she said, his eyes proud. "I know a thing or two about devil hunting, don't you know."

"Y-you do?" she asked, surprised. "Yeah, I'm an expert. I kill devils all the time!" he flexed his muscles. Amidst the conversation, Kobeni noticed his worn appearance. A bit of guilt crept in. "He looks like he's been through a lot. Maybe he needs medical attention. Do fiends need medical attention?" she wondered.

"Hey," he asked. "Yeah?" "What's your name?" "Denji." "What's your family name?" "Don't know. And you're supposed to say your name."

"Kobeni," she adjusted her clothes. "Kobeni Higashiyama."

Denji wiped his hands on his pants, ketchup and mustard still on his face. Sitting with legs crossed like Kobeni, she finally got a good look at the rip cord protruding from his chest.

"Kobeni-chan!"

Denji snapped his head towards the alley entrance. She watched him retreat to a corner, hiding near a dumpster amidst the trash bags. Hearing her name called, she rose and walked to the entrance of the alley. "Himeno-chan, I'm in here!" she called out, glancing back at Denji peeking out from behind a trashcan, his curiosity piqued.

"Kobeni! Why are you bloody? Are you okay?" Himeno exclaimed, grabbing Kobeni's arm and wiping her face with a cloth. Kobeni grew increasingly anxious under the scrutiny.

In the back of his mind Denji heard a buzzing. He strode out of the alley and grabbed Himeno's wrist. "Let go." Kobeni looked at Denji's arms, covered in blood. "Denji! I-it's okay. This is my m-m-mentor." He let go of her arm for a moment, eyeing the newcomer with suspicion.

Despite the peculiar meeting, Himeno smiled as she noticed the rip cord. "Nice to meet you!"
