Chapter 111 - Chapter 111: The First Fragment

INT. JAVELIN - COCKPIT - DAY

The ship cut through the clouds, but Wonder Woman's mind was far more turbulent than the sky. Seated alone in the cockpit, she replayed the events: the petrified Amazons, Felix Faust's smug smile, the terrible bargain. She had acted on the impulse of the threat, but now, doubt was setting in. Faust was an unknown, and she was walking in the dark.

She needed a discerning eye, the most distrustful person she knew.

She entered a secure code into the communicator. The line connected after a few seconds.

"Batman," announced the familiar, gravelly voice.

"Bruce, it's Diana. I need information. Everything you have on a man named Felix Faust."

There was a brief silence, heavy with analysis. "Faust? A second-rate sorcerer, but dangerous and ambitious. Why?"

"I can't explain. Not now. Just send me everything you have, please."

Before he could protest or question further, she cut the communication. She knew it was a mistake. Involving him halfway was worse than saying nothing. But the fear for her mother gripped her heart and clouded her judgment.

INT. WAYNE MANOR - STUDY - NIGHT

A few hours later, in the dark study of Wayne Manor, Batman stared at the now-black communicator screen. Diana's behavior was erratic, secretive. It was unlike her. Suspicious, he thought. He immediately launched a deep-level analysis on Felix Faust and set a maximum-priority alert on any activity linked to Wonder Woman.

INT. JAVELIN - COCKPIT - NIGHT

Diana, following Faust's instructions, had taken out three black runic stones the sorcerer had given her. They floated above a map, vibrating with a sinister energy. Suddenly, they converged, pointing like a demonic compass needle towards a city in Northern Europe.

"The first fragment is there," she whispered.

EXT. NATIONAL MUSEUM - NIGHT

Hours later, Wonder Woman moved through the shadows of the imposing neoclassical museum. The runic stones guided her to a hall of Greek antiquities. In the center, a seemingly innocuous grey stone fragment was displayed under a glass bell jar. But as she approached, the ground trembled.

Cracks appeared in the marble floor, and a colossal statue of a Greek hoplite, five meters tall, animated with a grinding of stone. Its eyes began to glow with a red light.

"I don't have time for this," Diana sighed.

The battle was titanic. The statue struck with the force of a boulder, shattering display cases and columns. Diana, agile and powerful, dodged and countered with blows that sent shards of marble flying. She used her lasso to trip it and, focusing all her strength into a final punch, reduced it to a pile of rubble.

She approached the bell jar, her heart heavy but determined.

Suddenly, a rustle of red and blue cape. A figure landed at the entrance to the devastated hall.

SUPERMAN

Diana!What are you doing?

She turned, surprised and caught red-handed.

WONDER WOMAN

It's none of your concern,Clark.

SUPERMAN

(Looking at the damage)

It becomes my concern when one of my closest friends destroys a museum and steals an artifact.Explain yourself.

WONDER WOMAN

(Rubbing her temples)

I'm sorry.It's... complicated.

SUPERMAN

(Stepping closer,his tone softening)

Hey...What are friends for, if not to have your back when there's trouble? You're not alone, Diana.

The sincerity and trust in his voice broke through Diana's defenses. She desperately needed help, and the solitude she had imposed on herself was unbearable. She lowered her shoulders, a gesture of surrender and fatigue.

WONDER WOMAN

Haa...Alright. It's... a dreadful story.

A reassuring smile appeared on Superman's face. He asked for nothing more. He simply raised two fingers to his ear, activating his communicator.

SUPERMAN

This is Superman.Code rally. Priority Alpha. Wonder Woman needs us. Rendezvous at the Watchtower. I repeat, all available Leaguers, immediate rally at the Watchtower.

He turned back to Diana, his smile still in place.

SUPERMAN

Come on.Tell us everything. We're with you.

For the first time since discovering Themyscira's fate, a small weight seemed to lift from Wonder Woman's heart. She was no longer alone.
