Chapter 10 - Chapter 9: Fears and Grinding

Chapter 10

Arthur and Morgan stood atop the cliff that led to the sea, where Morgan did most of her hunting. "As you asked sire, I'll herd a few low-level Naga to your direction," spoke the woman and Arthur nodded with a hand on his weapons.

"Yes, please do so, I'll try and reach level 10 today, and you might also reach level 10 as well." Spoke the king and Morgan smiled. Then with a leap of fate splashed into the water.

Arthur felt the pressure was over him without the protective film he gained form Morgan the last time he entered. He used Lord's share and gained the powers of Morgan. He remained submerged but didn't follow Morgan who transformed into her Leviathan from and swam away to the Naga nest that was her hunting ground.

Arthur swam further away from the shore and found a few weak fish that were easily taken out and placed in storage, by a swing of the sword. 'I wonder if I can also summon a Naga?' he asked himself. 'Can I even summon other unit types?' he asked himself curiosity setting in.

Minutes of waiting and getting used to moving in the water Arthur's senses picked up a threat, he looked his draconic eyes shifting and he was able to notice a large 10-metre-long monster, resembling a humanoid with a snake torso and legs.

It moved quickly, quicker than Arthur expected. 'She sent just one? Good I guess, makes it easy for me to gauge how strong one is and my own limits.' Thought Arthur while shifting his legs for a better stance, he made sure to use water control to keep himself stable.

Then seconds later like a speeding train the Naga was ready to ram into Arthur mouth wide open. Instead of dodging he slash with his Naga sword, coated with a water aura, he noticed the blue glow.

"Current slash!" he said sending a powerful water slash that took control of the weak currents around them and flew for the approaching Naga.

The monster sensed the danger and raised it's clawed hands and they too glowed blue and swiped at the water, forcing it's own slashes to meet with those of Arthur. The two attacks met and erupted into a water explosion.

Arthur used this chance to get close to the Naga, bursting through the turbulent currents created and appearing in front of the Naga. He slashed aiming for the chest where the Naga possessed weaker scales.

However, the Naga acted quickly, diving deeper and maneuvering it's tail to grab the man's leg and spun him around and around before flinging him to deeper into the sea. Planning on using the pressure to weaken his concentration or even crush him outright.

Arthur spiralled uncontrollably, 'Damn it,' he cursed internally. He felt an incredible impact on his back while he was spiralling, causing him to sink deeper and grunt in pain. Before he could even react any further something wrapped around his neck tightly and started squeezing.

"HRRYAA!" groaned Arthur when he felt the scales dig into his skin after shattering the armour around his neck. He saw red seep into the water from a blurred vision.

"GYAHH!" He screamed and discharged a massive amount of electricity from his body.

The lightning travelled across the Naga's body.

"RHAAA!" Roared the Naga, before it's muscles loosened. Arthur broke the hold and looked at the Naga. Eyes white, and unconscious but still alive. He raised his sword and pierced the heart with a quick thrust.

He then put the Naga into storage while releasing heavy breaths hand on his neck. Through his connection with Morgan he felt her concern for him. So he decided to speak first.

"I'm fine don't worry, just give me a few minutes before sending the next one,"

"Yes my lord," spoke the Dragon.

Arthur then took a deep breath while looking up, his mind was muddled and in turmoil, and for the first time something set in for him, 'I could die in this place,'

That single thought broke the faint idea in his head about this being just an elaborate game. 'I don't want to die,' he thought, as fear set in his heart, that fear extended to the many connections in his soul, the connection to his soldiers. 'Will they die too?' he asked himself.

'No, I can't let them die, they can't die for an incompetent leader like me.'

The connection he felt to his units was one of a father and child. He sired the dragons, and he had to build a suitable environment for them to live and thrive. 'But for that to happen many of them will have to die!' his thoughts screamed the realisation at him, one that should have been obvious.

'I…' he choked in his own thoughts unsure of how to continue. His heart racing faster than when he was in the battle that nearly ended his life. 'I…like the units, they are like family…I don't want to die, but I don't want them to die, but if I want to survive many of them will die!' he repeated the thought

He felt like he was being crushed by his own thoughts, but before he could drown in his own mind a soothing voiced calmed him.

"Master, it is alright. Death is not the end of us," spoke Morgan.

"HUH!?" asked the young man, "How did?" he questioned.

He felt morgan smile where she was. "Your heart is our heart, we feel your concern for us, your worry and love for us. The is no need for worry, when we die, we shall return to the source of our creation, we will be a part of you. That for any unit is a great pleasure,"

Arthur took a breath to calm himself. He smiled and spoke, "Then I'll make sure not to die," he said still confused and conflicted but determined to survive. "Now please send the next one," spoke the man readying his sword.
