______
Leo burst through the mansion doors, his small feet patting across the polished floor as he ran straight to the kitchen.
"Nanny Bella! Nanny Bella!" he shouted excitedly.
The older woman turned, startled. "Good heavens, young master—what is it?"
Leo's eyes sparkled. "I met an angel! She had a big tummy—like Nanny Zoe's! And she gave me candy and fixed my boo-boo!"
Nanny Bella blinked. "An angel, huh?" she said with a faint smile. "And what was her name?"
"I heard Sean call her Ava!" he beamed. "She's super nice! And she smells like candies. She said I'm her lollipop!"
Bella froze. The name rang too familiar.
Ava? she thought. Could it be…?
At the Ford Company
"Explain," Liam said sharply, his patience thinning by the second.
Sean stood in front of his desk, hands clasped behind his back. "Sir, we located her. Miss Ava was in the park."
Liam's jaw tightened. "And?"
"She was with Victor Knight," Sean began carefully. "And she was…" He hesitated.
"Speak," Liam ordered.
Sean swallowed. "She was pregnant, sir."
The word hit Liam like a thunderclap.
"Pregnant?" he repeated slowly, as if trying to make sense of it.
"Yes, sir."
For a moment, the office went dead silent except for the soft ticking of the wall clock. Liam's knuckles whitened around his pen.
"Find out where she's staying," he said finally, his voice low and controlled. "Now."
A Week Later
"Are you sure you'll be okay alone? I'll be back in two days. Maybe I should cancel the trip—or postpone it," Victor kept mumbling.
"Vicky, I'm okay. I'm not that fragile," Ava said, pushing him lightly toward the door. "Go now, or you'll miss your flight because of me."
He stepped out and hugged her tightly. "Call me."
"I definitely will not," she said with a laugh, quickly closing the door before he could reply.
A moment later, the doorbell rang. Ava frowned. "What now?"
She opened the door—and froze.
Liam Ford stood there.
"What are you doing here?" she asked, trying to sound calm.
"I came to ask you one thing," he said quietly, his eyes steady on hers. "Who's the father of your child?"
"Leave," she said, stepping back when he showed no sign of moving.
"What we had was… just a fling," she continued firmly. "You should forget about it. It's not your child."
Liam's eyes darkened. "You're lying."
"I'm engaged to Victor," she added quickly, forcing a small smile.
His expression hardened. "Engaged."
She nodded, but the strain in her voice was obvious. The tension grew thick until Ava felt her head spin. Her vision blurred, her knees trembled—then everything went black.
At the Hospital
Ava lay in the hospital bed, pale but breathing steadily. Liam sat beside her, guilt etched deep across his face.
He'd caused this. He knew it.
Victor arrived soon after—furious, protective, ready to fight.
"I should've known you'd go looking for her," he snapped. "See what you've done? Stay away from her, Ford."
"She's carrying my child," Liam said coldly.
"You don't even know that!" Victor retorted, shoving him.
Before it could escalate, security stepped in. Victor had Liam escorted out of the room.
But Liam wasn't done.
Later that day, he came back—this time with Leo.
The little boy ran to Ava's bedside with a wide grin. "Mommy Ava! I missed you!"
"Mommy Ava? That's fast," she thought, but her heart softened as she carefully hugged the boy.
Liam spoke quietly, his tone gentler now. "Leo's been asking for you every night. He wants you to come stay with us."
Ava hesitated. "I… I don't think that's a good idea."
"It's just until you recover," he said. "You'll have everything you need. No stress."
She still wasn't sure, but eventually she agreed reasoning that Victor was out of town on a business trip anyway. Which he was supposed to be back by now but got detailed cause of her.
Besides, part of her wanted to see Leo's smile again.
"Can I touch your belly again?" Leo asked, eyes beaming.
When she finally said yes, Leo placed his small hand on her stomach. Then he reached for Liam's hand, placing it beside his own.
The baby kicked.
It was the first time in months.
Something flickered in Liam's eyes—a mixture of shock, warmth, and something far deeper.
Weeks Later — The Ford Mansion
Since Ava's release, Liam had been driving her to every check-up himself.
Her due date was two months away, and he'd become strangely attentive—protective, even.
But one morning, work called him out of town. He arranged a taxi to take her to the hospital instead.
When Ava returned that afternoon, the mansion was unusually quiet. A delicious smell wafted from the kitchen.
She smiled faintly. "Leo?" she called. "Where's my little sunshine?"
No answer.
Then, from upstairs, a small head popped out. "Here!"
She laughed. "I thought you didn't miss me."
"I did! Very much!" Leo said proudly—but he didn't run down to her like usual.
"Then why aren't you coming down?"
Before he could answer, an unfamiliar female voice floated out from the kitchen.
"Leo, who are you talking to?"
Ava turned—and froze.
A tall woman with sleek red hair and striking green eyes walked out of the kitchen, wiping her hands with a towel. Her perfume was sharp and expensive, her smile perfectly practiced.
"Hi," the woman said brightly.
"Hello," Ava replied politely.
"Oh—you must be Ava Carter," the woman continued with a flawless smile. "Leo talks about you all the time. I'm Leo's mother."
"Oh… you look beautiful," Ava said, forcing a polite tone.
"I know," the woman replied with a smirk.
Ava blinked. Did she just get sassy with me—in my own house?
Her irritation flared instantly.
"I'll go to my room," she said shortly, turning toward the stairs.
"The guest room is that way," Yvonne said sweetly. "And you're pregnant. It's not safe for you to go upstairs."
"I'm fine. I can handle stairs."
"I insist," Yvonne said, stepping closer.
Ava's patience snapped. "Are you trying to get under my skin right now? I get it—you're Leo's mom and Liam's wife. But stop giving me that perfect-wife energy like I'm some other woman. I won't tolerate it."
"Oh, I was just trying to—"
"Stop." Ava exhaled sharply. "God, why is this even getting under my skin?"
Before Yvonne could respond, a cold voice came from the doorway.
"What's going on here, Yvonne?"
Both women turned. Liam stood there, his gray eyes unreadable.
"Nothing," Yvonne said quickly. "I was just telling her to stay in the guest room since she's pregnant."
Liam looked at Ava. "She's right. The stairs could be dangerous."
Ava crossed her arms. "I've been climbing stairs just fine—unless someone's wishing me bad luck."
"Ava—"
"I'm staying in my room upstairs," she cut in firmly. "This baby is mine. If anything happens, I'll take responsibility."
Without waiting for a reply, she turned and began climbing the stairs.
At the top, she paused, looking down with a small, triumphant smile.
"Let's go, Leo," she said gently.
The boy hesitated, then followed her.
Liam watched them go, then turned to Yvonne. "Now tell me. Why are you here?"
She smiled faintly. "I'm here for you."
"Don't give me that," he said coldly. "Why are you really here?"
She smirked. "We can talk later. I'll be staying here for a few days."
Then she raised her voice toward the stairs. "Leo! Mommy made your favorite chicken soup!"
Her voice echoed through the hall as she returned to the kitchen.
Liam stood there, silent—realizing something unsettling.
Yvonne and Ava looked nothing alike.
