Chapter 10 - Family

After driving quietly for several hours without meeting anyone on the road, As night fell, the two finally arrived at a town near the capital of their country.

The town was quiet, nice big and because it was quite close to the city. You could still see people living their lives. He even managed to see children playing ball somewhere while he was driving.

These children were surprised to see the car they were riding in, as very few people could afford to ride in them these days.

As he traveled, Arthur became more and more aware of this. However, he was not surprised either. After all, Sophie's family was very wealthy, so it was only natural that she could count on this kind of thing.

No matter how difficult it may be, nothing is impossible to achieve if you have the money. This was something that Arthur was very clear about because his biggest dream was not really cheap to fulfill.

After a few more minutes in the car, the two finally arrived at Arthur's parents' house. However, they parked the car in another place to give them a little surprise.

Sophie stood in front of the house, a little nervous. Although she didn't have a very good relationship with her parents, she hadn't really visited them since all this happened in the world. Because of this, she felt guilty for not visiting them sooner, even though she knew they were going through a lot of pain.

Sophie pressed the doorbell of the house. This was a rather nice house, although it was, not too luxurious because Arthur's parents were quite poor. Although he helped them and had, previously when he had a lot of money, offered them to live in a nice house, they refused his offer. "We like the house we live in," they said every time Arthur and Sophie offered them a new home.

After a few seconds, the door to the house opened, revealing Arthur's mother. She was quite a beautiful woman despite being older.

She wore a cream-colored dress, quite wide because she never liked to dye her hair. She wore it as white as snow. She also wore no makeup, so you could clearly see the wrinkles on her face, although they were few and really suited her, as they complemented her face perfectly, enhancing her beauty. This beauty, however, was not at its maximum splendor because she had a sad countenance at that moment.

"Hello, Mrs. Laurie. Long time no see, hope I didn't disturb you." Sophie greeted with a warm smile on her face.

She really respected and admired her mother-in-law, often praising her beauty, saying that she would like to grow old like her when talking to Arthur alone.

"Sophie!" She said in surprise when she saw Sophie's face in the doorway. Her face changed quickly at that moment, and although she tried to show a smile, you could clearly notice the sadness in her eyes.

"Darling, you don't know how much I missed you what are you waiting for come inside, Quick, before you catch a cold!" She tried to drag her inside quickly.

 "Wait!"

"There's nothing to wait for the night is cold. You might end up getting sick. come on!"

She continued to drag Sophie, not letting her speak at any point. However, before, she could close the door with her inside. Arthur came out from behind some bushes she was hiding in.

 "Mother!"

Hearing Arthur's voice, Laurie came to a complete stop. 'Who is it?' The voice sounded quite familiar. 'Arthur? 'No, it's not possible. He's no longer with us.'

Several thoughts crossed her mind.

After slowly turning around, she could see Arthur's face. Who was standing in the doorway under the light of a lantern just above the door, illuminating his face. She could see his face completely.

"Arthur! Is that you?" she was afraid she was hallucinating.

He nodded his head slightly. "I am."

She quickly ran to greet him with a big hug, tears falling from her eyes and ended up soaking her clothes. But she didn't care right now. She had her son in front of her again! The son, who she thought she had lost all this time, was now being hugged by her at the door of her house.

The feeling of happiness, she had at this moment could not be described in words. There was no sign of sadness in her eyes anymore it was the purest happiness a mother could feel.

"You are! You really are Arthur!" She repeated as she squeezed the embrace even tighter as if she was afraid to let go and it would disappear again in front of her eyes.

"Mother, you will smother me," He said with a warm smile. Even before the trip, he hadn't seen his mother for a while, so he really missed her.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. But it's just... I thought I'd lost you." She let go of the hug and wiped away her tears.

"It passes quickly. You can catch a cold too. Come on, get inside so Mommy can make you something to eat! You must be starving!"

She dragged them both inside the house.

"Honey, what's all the fuss." Soon Arthur's father came down the front steps of the house.

"Arthur's back!" She communicated joy to him.

"Hi, Dad." Arthur waved casually with his hand, a smile on his face.

"Son!" He ran down the stairs and greeted him with a big hug, as did his mother.

Arthur's father was a rather ordinary man, although he was quite large and had quite a bit of strength because he used to work on construction sites. He was a man of average height, with wide arms and normal looks.

"Hello, sir Leo." Sophie interrupted, after letting them hug for a while. She felt uncomfortable with the situation.

"Sophie!" Arthur's father was surprised. He had completely ignored her, and when, he saw his son, he had completely forgotten about everything else.

After their emotional reunion, they all went to the dining room of the house, to chat for a while. Arthur told them everything he had experienced, although he skipped over the fact that he had killed two people and that the strange woman had told him to fight. After all, he didn't want to worry them.

After spending quite some time with animated chatter, Arthur determined to get up from the table and headed for the stairs.

"By the way, Mom, where's Charlotte?" After their emotional reunion, they all went to the dining room of the house to chat for a while.
