There were times when one found themselves in an ocean full of lost dreams. All they ever wished for or hoped for were all lost.
Marcy walked to the cafeteria alone. Who wanted to follow someone without an angel. They were whispers that she didn't deserve to live, that she was opened to demons, those rebel angels. Some said she was not meant to be a human or a student of this great elite school.
She took a tray and stuffed some food in it. Looking for where to seat found an empty seat and went there.
How can my life be this miserable.
She sighed and began eating. Then she got that feeling that someone was staring at her wanting to wound her skin with the state. She turned to find that guy staring at her. The one she bumped into on her way to Miss Amara's office. Marcy quickly turned back.
Why is he staring at me like that? And why is he sitting alone?
Marcy decided to concentrate on her food. She just wanted to be left alone. But that was only a wish. For someone who didn't have protection either from her angel or from the high class, the next thing people resorted to was bullying.
" Hey, new girl", someone turned and she noticed the person. She had seen her at the back seat in class and she had this aura that made her manipulate people around her.
"What?" Marcy asked. The girl laughed, "For someone without an angel or protection from the upper class, you got a mouth on you", the girl said.
"Well, I do have a mouth ", she said calmly trying hard not to offend her, but, she did.
The girl, who she later found out to be Dona, she wasn't a high ranker, she was just se lousy piece of shit. Dona poured the hot sauce on her dress. " You don't have a thing. No family, no friends, no angel... You're all alone ", Dona said and pushed her to the floor. Marcy hit her head hard , but endured this pain.
Shit. It aches everywhere.
Marcy turned to see the guy staring at her one more time. What did she do to deserve all these. Just because she had no hopes of finding an angel because she was way past a late bloomer... But, she was just a year late.
Only a year late.
The girl and her friends left as they heard the bell. Marcy stood hoping the guy had left, but when she stood, their eyes locked.
Damn.
"You're not going to class?" She asked trying to smile and be friendly, but, he looked like someone that didn't want to be friendly with anything.
" I'm a mess", she said and went to clean up, but, before she could reach the door, someone came in. "The principal is looking for you, Marcy", she said and left quickly.
Why is she looking for me? Is it to expel me for being so weak?
Marcy left not looking at the guy. But those eyes were boring holes at a very high degree. She increased her step and went to the principal's office not bothering to clean the stain.
***
The principal's office was a well lit room and was neatly furnished. This was the second time she was entering this office, but the things here still awed her. The principal was seated reading some files.
"Good day, ma'am", she greeted and the woman looked up and the first thing she saw were the stains.
"What have you been up to, miss Marcy?" She asked and Marcy shook her head. "There was a fight", she said and the principal nodded.
"Wash up then come back. I hate the smell of sauce", she said and got back to her work.
Today has so many flaws.
After sometime, she returned to the principal's office. The woman was taking tea. "I'm back", she said. The woman looked at her seriously. "I know, I'm not blind", she said and stood up walking to where Marcy stood. "You have no angel?" She asked knowing full well that the young girl knew that she knew.
"I don't. But, I'm just a year late", she said quickly.
If they ever threw her back to the streets, she could die. She struggled for food everyday and the government had no time for a delinquence like her. She would die of bullying and loneliness coupled with hunger. Now, her body structure was already building within few days, if they threw her out, she could die.
" Don't keep your face that way, we're not going to expel you", she said laughing. Marcy felt relieved. At least they were not throwing her out. "What I want to know is why you don't have protection", she said.
Marcy stared at this woman she called her principal. Why was she asking such questions. Did she know why she was lonely, no friends, family or guardian angel? Was it her fault she was an open way to demons, the rebel angels?
"I do not know", she said briskly. The principal laughed. "It's a rhetorical question, love. No one would want to find themselves in such a predicament", she said and Marcy smiled a little.
At least she knows it's not my fault.
The principal walked back to her desk. "You don't understand the world you're in, Marcy. This is an elite world where people like you do not fit in. You don't know how the world works ", she said and walked to the window.
"This world, Netro is called survival of the fittest. The future belongs to those who know where they belong ", she said still staring out the window.
"Where do you belong?", She asked and turned to her.
Marcy looked at her shoes and back at her. "I don't know ", she said. The principal nodded. " That means your fate would be entwined with demons. And once that happens, you will be sent to a separate place as a reject", she said and Marcy nodded.
So I was born to be rejected.
" Ma'am, those that are rejects didn't they have angels?" She asked. The principal looked at the door and back at her. " They did. Some of their angels had sexual intercourse with humans and we're casted down as demons, while some their angels left", she said.
"What do you mean by that, ma'am?" She asked curiously.
What they were always taught and what they read in books was that the angels didn't leave, they either became inactive or dormant.
But why...
"Leave, I have a visitor ", she said.
Marcy nodded . She didn't want to tell her.
I'm a reject. I'm open to demons... .
