Chapter 16 - Chapter16

On the long stretch of road that cut through the orange desert to the lower class territory swerved and skid one car under a blue sky.

It was being pursued by blue creatures from both sides. The driver aimed with one hand holding an elongated pistol. He fired. The bullet went through the creatures head causing no damage only to exit emitting a blue hue before bursting a hole in the creature beside the first, taking it down.

"Come on! Do betta than dat!" Jethro's rage was evident yet his strategic aim was always on point.

Ahead there were creatures that stood in the road screaming. "Yeah? You think that ago stop me?!" He stomped the pedal and the engine roared. Across the windshield of the passenger side flashed a warning sign.

Threat eminent.

Activating AI Assist.

Threat identified. Creatures of the Apocalypse, also known as C.O.T.A.

Preparing counter measures based on previous interactions.

Hexagon patterns lit up on the car forming discs that would flip and change the car's color like a camellia from a calm silver to eerie black.

The windows also were covered in by another layer of see through material blue material. All over the vehicle were now patches of blue emitting light especially the hood and fender.

The car smashing through the blockade knocking the creatures sky high. The car swerved to a halt. He stepped out walking back to were the blockade once was. A single creature laid on the remaining patch of sand on the road not recovered from the collision.

Jethro stooped down and pushed his guns towards the creatures mouth. Before making contact the nozzles lit up with a blue hue. "After repeated exposure, the item automatically ignites when in close proximity. Just like the car." He pushed the guns into the creature's mouth stirring around.

Most of the creatures watched while two of the creatures standing on either side of the road started digging and throwing sand onto the road like dogs. Jethro smirk at the noises behind him.

By the time he turned around, five creatures stood on the sand formed a blockade between him and his car. He raise his hand aiming his gun at them. "Pussy, try harda." He thrusted his gun then pressed the trigger causing a kickback.

A creature leapt at him. He spun dodging the creature then whacked it out the air with his nozzle. Another came from above and received a bullet to the head. A quiet one snuck up on him only screaming when he was in grappling range. Jethro uppercut the creature lodging his gun in the creature's mouth lifting it overhead and smashed it into the ground.

He kept firing eventually turning his sights on the idle creatures taking them out one by one.

Re-entering his car, he swerved and drifted around knocking the unconscious creature down under his tires.

A hand knocked on the door. "Lucia, you finished in there? I need to take a shit." Said a man in glasses.

"Again?" She groaned stepping out. "I was just about finished anyway." She was dressed dark black jeans, purple asymmetric top, matching earrings and a headband with a bow.

Her cross hung on its golden chain hovering above her ample chest. He looked her over from head to toe and back. Her face contorted as she took a step back. Is he checking me out?!

He cleared his throat. "Babes come quick! Lucia tun hot gyal!" He snapped his fingers in the air before resting it in his hip sticking a pose.

She burst out into a smile. "What! No I didn't!"

"Yes she is." He strut towards his girlfriend swinging his hips. "Look at her. She ago look man. Ooooooohh, me ago tell Jethro!"

Lucia couldn't help but to hold their stomachs while struggling to breathe. "Are you saying I'm trying to cheat on Jethro?"

"Who the cap fit! Let them wear it!"

"Go away!" She pushed him playfully. Moments like these could only happen because times where good and only getting better. Better to the the point where ill feelings of the past towards one another were forgotten.

"Don't follow his antics Lucia," Said his girlfriend who had walked over from their daughter who had been using her tablet to play videos. "You look pretty and this is his way of showing it."

"I know, thanks." I hope he likes it.

The TV switched from kids programs to a live stream of a man and women in a helicopter. Normally no one in the house would pay attention to things like this because they simply had no interest in watching someone do something they couldn't because of their financial difficulties.

But this one was beyond bizarre. Not that anything seemed out of the ordinary at first glance to the women. No it wasn't the stream at all. "What the muma rassclat?" He stared at the TV in puzzled animosity. That's what got their attention.

"Dear! Language."

"Woman you blind? You no see that!" He pointed to TV. She shrugged oblivious.

Lucia's gasped. "In the background, the sky... "

"It's orange? That doesn't make any sense. It's past sunset already."

"It makes perfect sense since they're outside the city. The atmosphere out there is different and is a little radioactive. They say it's because of the new gods blessing why cities that follow his rules are protected."

"Protected my foot! He caused all this!"

"Shhh!!!" Lucia walked up to TV staring at the corner of the screen. "Did our TV always have this blue glit?" He ran over them shook his head. "He wasn't just trying to scare me with stories. It's real. The Sky Shift - Blue Hue."

It was just as she had said, in the horizon of the steamers camera, the sky had begun to change. The once orange night was being engulfed in an ocean of icy blue.

As the fierce blue sky rose above the horizon, in it was a dust cloud of sand and blue flashes. Leading this slip stream was a ball of blue flames blazing down the empty strip of asphalt.

The streamers were fanatic, having been the first to encounter this supernatural phenomena. The helicopter jerked with the camera now on the city which seemed to be covered in an orange dome.

The streamer couple seemed outraged at this but the pilot wasn't having it. Clearly too black for this type of situation. The couple continued to record and even zoomed as the ball of flames gained on them as well as the sky behind it.

Now with a clearer image they were flabbergasted at what they saw in that storm. Humanoid creatures covered in blue flames sprinting on all fours. Their skin was nowhere to be seen unlike their muscular system but despite their grotesque physique, their burning blue eyes screamed of humanity.

Even with all these revelations, the streamers weren't prepared for what they were seeing.

It wasn't a hidden fact that on the super continent they all called home, were uninhabitable zones occupied by apocalyptic creatures who's touch, would corrupt anything they touched and infected it with their radioactive hue.

Yet here was a car still functional while burning blue. From the hood to the trunk and even the tires. The car dashed forward with a burst of blue flame rings from its twin exhaust pipes. The blast knocked some of the creatures back while the others kept leading from one side of the road to the other trying to latch onto the vehicle.

The constant thrusts made it harder to keep the camera on the car, that's when the streamers zoomed out, realizing that the vehicle was less than a thousand meters away unlike the dome surrounding the city which was a mer hundred.

The center of gravity shifted for the vehicle, lifting the front wheels. In the span that it took them to inhale, blink and exhale, a streak of blue zipped by them. 'Iwannashowyou offfffff' was stretched out as was this moment followed by a resonating sound of an explosion.

The helicopter was pulled into the vacuum left in the streak's wake, then dragged across the ground by it's slip stream. Screams and cries were all scrambled as the feed lost signal momentarily.

The footage came back just in time to capture the storm crashing into the dome. Sand, helicopter parts and of course the apocalyptic creatures all slammed into the dome but only the sand and parts made it through.

By the time a streamer came to, the creatures had regained their hue and stood watching. By some miracle all three had survived with injuries minor enough to run for the city over ten kilometers away in a panic.

After only staring at them, the creatures sighed and nodded with each other as if agreeing with a long accepted truth of reality before sprinting off then leaping into the sands as if it were a pond.

Vibrations pulled them from the screen. It was his number.
