Hu Yidao and the students definitely tried to be positive, firstly because they didn't want to start any trouble, and secondly because time was limited. You cozy up to the dorm supervisor or figure out other ways. Skipping curfew once or twice isn't a big deal.
But the nicer Hu Yidao and the others were, the bolder those two young men became.
