One hand holding the railing, one hand carrying her slippers, Memoria Campbell tiptoed down the stairs like a little thief, wearing socks and gingerly carrying her injured foot.
One step, another step, and another…
Her toes finally touched the first floor's floorboard. She glanced up to check for any sign of Leng Xiaoxie, and not seeing him, she smirked triumphantly and sped up towards the door.
In the kitchen, Leng Xiaoxie came out holding two bowls.
He saw Memoria sneaking forward like a little mouse, paused, then smiled silently.
Little girl, I knew you'd try to run.
Thankfully I got back just in time. A bit later and she might have really run away.
But then again, where could she run to? She might escape the monk, but not the temple!
Smilingly watching her walk to the door, place her slippers on the shoe rack, and take her flats, Leng Xiaoxie finally spoke.
"Memoria, my dear student?!"

Memoria dropped her shoe right onto her foot.
