The injury isn't particularly serious, according to Iris Dukes. Some stone fragments penetrated the flesh, requiring careful surgery to remove. The only concern is whether they reached the bone.

As soon as she reached the door, Rowdy Brightwill, who had been waiting outside, greeted Flossie Wright.
"How's it going?"
Walking over, Flossie Wright calmly asked.
"I don't know. I just got here; I haven't heard anything." Rowdy Brightwill was somewhat frazzled.
He was here to help, running around all day, and had mentally prepared himself to encounter acquaintances, but when he really met someone he knew, he felt uncomfortable.
After speaking, Rowdy Brightwill seemed to think of something, his eyes turning toward Iris Dukes, "Dukes, you were with Belinda, right? Know the details?"
