As dawn broke, the few who had fallen asleep on the beach started to wake up one after another.
Rowdy Brightwill was the earliest to rise.
By the time he'd wandered through the woods and found something that could serve as breakfast, their previously built campsite seemed empty because everyone was already up.
He could see a few figures nearby, but after looking carefully, he could not spot Flossie Wright.
"Morning."
Jessie Grain walked past, greeting him in passing.
"Morning," Rowdy Brightwill nodded, paused for a moment, and then immediately asked, "Where's Flossie?"
"She," Jessie Grain chuckled, "got up and left with Belinda Nichols, said they were having a race."
"A race?"
Rowdy Brightwill looked puzzled.
"Yeah," Jessie Grain replied, then explained, "This island isn't very large, so the two of them are racing to see who swims around it first."
