With her in his arms, he walked towards the door with a smile.
"I've already called Mrs. Feng. I told them not to wait for us. Is there anything specific you would like to eat? I can have Mrs. Zhang make it for you."
"Anything goes." Vera clung to his arm. "I'm not picky."
The two laughed and chatted as they entered the elevator. During their descent, Vera's phone rang.
The call was from a television reporter she knew, who wanted to interview her about Irene Spencer's situation.
"I apologize, but I'm very busy lately and can't accept interviews." After declining the offer, Vera leaned her head on Kris Cooper's arm. "How are things looking now?"
"I called Detective Liu. He said they're still investigating," Kris shrugged. "Relax. This time around, there's no way for Irene to walk free. Any one of her charges could ruin her."
Vera nodded gently, saying no more.
