Two cleaners were gossiping as they worked. Vera overheard them and frowned, then coughed lightly.
When the two cleaners saw her, they both turned pale. They quickly greeted her and left hastily with their garbage cans.
Walking into Kris Cooper's office, Vera went out onto the terrace and walked over to the fish pond.
The company building had been renovated before, with significant changes to the offices and other areas. Only this terrace and the fish pond remained virtually the same, untouched by time.
Walking around the fish pond to the railing, Vera leaned on it and looked down.
She imagined her father's emotions standing here, just before he fell from this spot, and her eyes moistened again.
