The next morning, Vera didn't sleep in. Instead, she got up early and took the subway to work.
Even though Kris Cooper hadn't assigned her any substantial tasks, she always arrived at work on time. Despite her new dynamic with Kris Cooper—essentially a sugar daddy and bed buddy arrangement—her inherent pride prompted her to earn her own keep.
After feeding the fish on the balcony and watering the plants, she found herself bored. So, she got a rag and started tidying up Kris Cooper's office.
By the time she finished cleaning the entire room, it was already noon.
She was packing up, ready to head downstairs for lunch, when a Whatsapp message came from Isla Hawskin.
"See you at the cafeteria later. Don't you dare stand me up, or I'll come to the CEO's Office and make you regret it!"
Vera fetched her handbag and went downstairs. When she found Isla, the latter had already ordered her lunch. Seeing Vera arrive, Isla immediately pushed a tray towards her.
"Well then... my treat!"
