Chapter 14 - Chapter 14 The Terror of Being Uncultured (2)

She hadn't eaten since morning, and by noon, she was already famished.

"If you order now, you'll have to pay. But..." Vera grinned, "If you get a card now, I can treat you to a meal."

An Annual Card would net her six thousand. Treating him to Pizza Hut was nothing, especially since she was hungry too. Besides, if he ordered something, he couldn't very well let her just watch, could he?

Observing her expressions, Kris Cooper chuckled to himself. He knew she was hungry too.

"Okay, order a meal for me, and you go get the card processed!"

At first, he had thought she'd been tricked into doing this job. But looking at her now, the young lass seemed to be quite into it. She must have been forced into this by money; otherwise, someone like her would never be doing this. He didn't want her going around promoting these things to other men.

"Really?!"

Vera's eyes immediately lit up.

"That's great, I'll order right away. I have a discount voucher from Meituan..."

As she spoke, she took out her phone to find it.

Catching the gleam in her eyes, Kris Cooper's eyebrows knit together slightly.

How did she go from being a young heiress to using discount coupons for Pizza Hut? Going from austerity to extravagance is easy, but the reverse is difficult... How did she manage to survive this past year?

The thought made his heart ache.

"What would you like to eat? I have a Happy Four-People Meal, and also a Three-People Meal… The two of us can't eat that much, so… maybe a couple's combo?"

It was simple: the couple's combo was the cheapest.

A couple's combo?

Kris Cooper nodded in satisfaction.

"Alright, we'll go with the couple's combo then?"

"Great!" Vera placed the order quickly, then moved over to him. "The money!"

Kris Cooper laid back leisurely, his hands behind his head. "It's in my wallet. Help yourself."

Seeing he had no intention to move, Vera could only climb onto the bed and reach into his suit's inner pocket.

She felt on the left side—a phone. She felt on the right side—this time, his wallet.

She knelt on the bed and drew out the wallet.

"Which card should I use?"

Kris Cooper simply watched her with half-closed eyes.

"Any."

She was always forgetting things and would often leave her wallet behind. Whenever they went out together, she always unabashedly reached into his pocket for his wallet, taking money without even asking. Those were times he truly missed.

As she opened his wallet, Vera saw a picture stuffed inside and froze.

In the photo was a girl in her mid-teens, her hair in a cute bun, holding a lit firework in her hands. The photo was a bit dark and had poor resolution, making it very blurry.

But that face evoked a sense of familiarity.

Observing her expression, Kris Cooper spoke up quietly.

"What is it?"

"Nothing... just felt like I've seen this photo somewhere." Realizing it was somewhat impolite, Vera quickly averted her gaze from the photo and took out one of his credit cards. "Should I use this one?"

Kris Cooper's dark eyes narrowed.

Was her acting too good, or had she really forgotten this photo? Or... had he mistaken her for someone else?

Watching the young girl hold his credit card and about to leave, he propped himself up, suddenly speaking.

"Vera, what's your zodiac sign?"

"Me? I'm an Aries, born on April 1st."

His question was abrupt, her answer casual. After speaking, she quickly opened the door and left.

Kris Cooper stared at the closed door, lost in thought.

The same birthday, the same name, the same face, the mole in the same spot on her palm... He couldn't have mistaken her, so what on earth was happening?!
