She forced an awkward smile and turned around to keep heading upstairs.
"Shirley Grant, I like you."
Behind her, Andrew Davidson's voice sounded from her back.
The previous careless, cocky tone was gone, and there were no more cynical, probing words.
This time, he said it plainly and clearly, without the slightest bit of concealment.

For a moment, Shirley Grant had no idea how to face him at all; it was too sudden.
"Andrew Davidson, don't joke around."
Shirley Grant gave an awkward laugh. After she spoke, she waved her hand, trying to act as if nothing had happened.
"I like you!"
Andrew Davidson repeated once more. After he spoke, he stood up and came to stand in front of her.
"Shirley Grant, in this lifetime you can forget about leaving this place, you can forget about leaving me!"
