Sophia Moore's face flushed red with anger. She'd never expected this kind of reaction when she came to tattle to Maxwell Peary.
She was even starting to wonder if Nia Mitchell's backing was truly as simple as just Alan Morgan. It was a classic case of 'once the hares are killed, the hounds are cooked'; Alan Morgan had already left MC Group, so there shouldn't be anyone left to look after Nia Mitchell.
"So, have you decided whether you want to change your boss or not?"
Maxwell Peary picked up the glass of plain water from his desk and took a sip. His gaze drifted for a moment as he swallowed.
He... really did seem to be starting to quit coffee.
"Mr. Peary, you must be joking. I merely came to report an employee's behavior, not to resign."
A terribly strained smile hung on Sophia Moore's face. After her awkward words, every second of silence in the office felt like a piercing pain to her.
"If Mr. Peary has no other instructions, I'll get back to work."
