Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: The Wheel of Fortune Turns (1)_1

"My sister is back," Julia Bluen said, turning around to leave.

But Glades Horne ran even faster than her. Watching him whisk by like a gust of wind, hurrying forward to meet Ruby Bluen, Julia Bluen couldn't help but laugh. She stopped in her tracks and admired Glades Horne's handsome figure from behind, thinking that just his silhouette alone was enough to drive women wild.

"It seems he's truly head over heels in love with my sister," Julia Bluen whispered to herself.

Her recent anger had vanished completely. No matter how many women set their eyes on Glades Horne, as long as he belonged to her sister, body and soul, Julia Bluen felt at ease. Although faithful marriages were rare among noble families, Julia Bluen still hoped her sister would be the luckiest woman in the world.

Julia Bluen didn't go back inside the house, as the marriage discussion did not need her involvement.

She wandered around the courtyard until evening when the Horne Family had left, and only then did she return to her room.

「The next day.」

In the clear blue sky, the sunlight was not yet intense. The occasional cool autumn breeze made for another refreshingly crisp day.

「Civil Affairs Office.」

A silver Rolls-Royce was parked in front of the Civil Affairs Office. Leaning against the car door with his hands in his trouser pockets, Glades Horne stared into the distance, waiting for Ruby Bluen to appear. Although he had been waiting for a while, there was not a trace of impatience on his strong features; instead, they were filled with sheer happiness.

The wedding date had been set, and the most crucial task now was registration. The two had agreed to meet at the Civil Affairs Office at ten in the morning to register today.

That was why, for the first time, he had not gone to the Bluen Family's house early in the morning.

Ruby Bluen had told him to wait for her at the Civil Affairs Office.

Not many people were coming to register. Everyone who entered or left wore happy smiles, holding hands or arm in arm, displaying extreme intimacy.

Every couple that entered the Civil Affairs Office glanced at Glades Horne. His handsomeness, his dignity, the stability he exuded, and the luxurious Rolls-Royce demanded attention.

Glades Horne pulled his left hand out of his pocket, lifted it, and glanced at the Cartier men's wristwatch on his wrist, valued at hundreds of thousands of yuan. It was five minutes to ten. Why hadn't Ruby Bluen shown up yet?

Unable to resist, Glades Horne took out his phone and dialed Ruby Bluen's number.

"Sorry, the number you have dialed is switched off!"

To Glades Horne's great surprise, Ruby Bluen's phone was turned off.

His eyebrows knitted together, and a bad premonition inexplicably flashed through his mind.

He immediately dialed the Bluen Family's landline. The housekeeper answered. Glades Horne asked if Ruby Bluen had left for the Civil Affairs Office, but the housekeeper hemmed and hawed, giving a convoluted response.

"Put Julia Bluen on the phone!" Glades Horne suddenly bellowed.

Fury instantly spread across his handsome face.

His roar startled a couple who were just arriving at the Civil Affairs Office and walking inside. Seeing his anger, the man quickly ushered his female companion into the office.

"The second young miss... the second young miss... isn't home either," the Bluen Family housekeeper stammered, clearly frightened by Glades Horne's bellow.

Glades Horne's eyebrows knitted even tighter. He decisively ended the call. There was no point in asking further.

He immediately keyed Julia Bluen's mobile number into his phone. The call connected quickly, but it rang for a long time before Julia Bluen answered. "Glades, why do you have the time to call me?" Julia Bluen's voice, laced with a giggle, came through the phone. However, Glades Horne sharply detected that her laughter was fake, tinged with guilt.

"Don't play around with me. Tell me, has your sister left home or not?" Glades Horne interrupted, his voice cold and low as he demanded.

"My sister... my sister, Glades..." Julia Bluen also started to stutter on the other end of the phone.

"Julia Bluen, speak!"

Dark clouds overshadowed Glades Horne's handsome face. The fact that even Julia Bluen was stuttering meant something must have happened to Ruby Bluen.

What could have happened to Ruby? Could she have been in a car accident on her way to the Civil Affairs Office? Kidnapped? No, impossible. His fiancée is blessed with good fortune; she would never have that kind of accident. If Ruby had suffered such a mishap, Julia wouldn't be teasing him with a fake laugh.

"Glades, my sister... she... ran away," Julia Bluen said softly, dropping the fake laughter.

Just yesterday, both families had gathered to discuss the wedding arrangements, and the date had been set for ten days later. Glades Horne and Ruby Bluen had also agreed to bring their household registration books to the Civil Affairs Office today to transition from being lovers to a married couple. However, when dawn arrived, the Bluen Family had not seen Ruby Bluen come downstairs. When the servant went upstairs to call her, they found her room empty. Only two letters were left behind: one for the Bluen Family and one for Glades Horne.

Ruby Bluen had run away. She said she didn't want to marry Glades Horne; she had actually fled the marriage!

This bombshell threw the entire Bluen Household into disarray. Chris Bluen's face turned green with anger. The wedding date was set, all arrangements were complete, and even the banquet preparations were underway. The whole of T City knew about their grand wedding scheduled in ten days. No one could fathom that Ruby Bluen would announce at this critical moment that she didn't want to marry. She had fled the night before the registration, while everyone was unsuspecting.

Since early morning, the Bluen Family had been searching for Ruby Bluen, trying every means to ascertain her whereabouts, but so far, to no avail.

"Julia Bluen, today is not April Fool's Day!" Glades Horne's grip on his phone tightened abruptly, veins bulging on the back of his hand as he roared at Julia Bluen in fury. How could Ruby possibly run away? They've been in love for so many years, they grew up together, and I've treated her so well. How could she possibly flee? It must be Julia joking with me.

"I'm sorry, Glades," Julia Bluen's apologetic voice came through, apologizing to Glades Horne on her sister's behalf. Her voice was also extremely bitter. Although filled with anger and confusion, she understood her sister; Ruby Bluen must have had an overwhelming reason. Otherwise, she would never have run from the wedding. Ruby Bluen worked at the Bluen consortium. Julia Bluen knew, even better than her sister, that the Bluen Family could not afford to offend the Horne Family. The Bluen Family was only respected because of their good relations with the Horne Family, and because the Crown Prince of the Horne Family, Glades Horne, was enamored with Ruby Bluen.
