The yield and taste are both problematic.
But it's quite hassle-free to plant.
It's only during harvest that it's rather difficult.
Ma Lin suggests they plant more, a bit recklessly, that's alright, just try to expand the planting area.
As for preserving the excess, Ma Lin explains that digging a cellar for storage is enough for the crop to be eaten until next year.
"Why plant so much of something that tastes terrible?"
Ma Lin said, "The starch produced can be used to make noodles, wrappers, or for a luxury treat, you can use it to wrap dumplings."
The fiber in the starch is filtered out, making the dumpling taste better.
Once these people hear about noodles, their interest increases somewhat.
Even so, they dislike working.
Ma Lin spends time in all nine settlements nearby urging everyone to plant more bitter potatoes.
