Kurt smirked, nodding. "Alright, kid. I'll give you that. But don't get comfortable with that belt. Because sooner or later, I will take it from you. And when I do, I'll remind you exactly why I'm the best damn wrestler in the world." With that, Angle dropped the microphone, taking a step back off the ramp as his music hit once again.
Sandro stood tall in the ring, gripping his championship as he watched Angle retreat up the ramp. Big E who stood behind him, approached closer, then whispered, "That was huge, man."
Sandro exhaled sharply, his smirk turned into a genuine smile. "Yeah. It was."
As the show went off the air, the camera captured one last shot of Sandro who was on the ring, and Kurt who was on the entrance stage staring each other down one last time, both men knowing that a collision between them was inevitable.
After Kurt's appearance on FCW and his challenge to Sandro for the FCW Florida Heavyweight Championship, with the possibility of the TNA World Heavyweight Title also being put on the line in a Champion vs. Champion match, the internet, particularly Twitter, went berserk.
The wrestling world had just witnessed a moment that would be talked about for years to come.
No one had anticipated such a spectacle, especially with how Sandro had gone toe to toe with Kurt on the mic, holding his own against the Olympic Gold Medalist and veteran of the industry.
Fans immediately divided into factions, with many siding with Kurt, a legend with accolades spanning numerously across his career, believing he would crush the young upstart and become a double champion.
A small part of the fans, however, had faith in Sandro. He had been undefeated since capturing the FCW Florida Heavyweight Championship, and while technically still a rookie in the grand scheme of professional wrestling, his rapid rise to prominence had fans believing he was capable of pulling off the impossible.
Twitter exploded with debates between fans. Some were convinced Kurt's experience and skill would be too much for Sandro, while others argued that if Kurt underestimated Sandro, he could find himself on the losing end of history.
The confrontation between the two trended almost instantly, and the sheer volume of discussion made it one of the most talked about moments in wrestling that week.
Meanwhile, backstage, the atmosphere was vastly different from the tension filled kayfabe moment in the ring. Kurt Angle, now out of character, walked over to Sandro with a genuine smile on his face. He extended his hand, and Sandro shook it without hesitation.
"Kid, that was incredible," Kurt said, his tone filled with respect. "You've got it, man. The way you carried yourself out there, the way you played off me, it was perfect, especially since you were going full improvise out there. You knew exactly when to let the crowd breathe, when to hit your beats, and when to fire back. Not many guys can do that their first time going face to face with someone like me."
Sandro chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. "Man, coming from you, that means a lot. I was honestly just hoping I didn't screw it up."
Kurt patted him on the shoulder. "You didn't just not screw up, you knocked it out of the park. And I'll be real with you, I've worked with a lot of guys who don't know how to handle the moment. You? You embraced it. The way you reacted, the way you played into it while keeping your cool? That's some veteran level awareness."
Dusty Rhodes and Steve Keirn, who had been watching from nearby, walked over, both grinning like proud fathers.
"What did I tell ya, Kurt?" Dusty said, placing a hand on Sandro's shoulder. "This boy here's got somethin' special. That wasn't just a segment, that was witnessing a new history bein' made in the business I tell ya'."
Steve nodded. "And it ain't over yet. We've got the world talking, and now we have to capitalize on it. Kurt, you think this kid is ready for a main event program with you?"
Kurt smirked. "If tonight proved anything, it's that he damn sure is. I wouldn't have come out there if I didn't think he was ready. And after what we just did? Hell yeah, I want to see where this goes."
Sandro took a deep breath. The weight of what was happening was beginning to settle in. This wasn't just another storyline. This was his chance to prove himself on the biggest stage FCW had ever seen, against one of the greatest wrestlers of all time.
As the night wrapped up, Sandro sat in the locker room, scrolling through his phone, watching as Twitter continued to explode with reactions. He saw his name trending alongside Kurt Angle, with countless tweets debating who would come out on top.
@WrestlingMarks: "Sandro has been unstoppable in FCW, but c'mon, it's Kurt Freaking Angle. The one who wins a gold medal with a BROKEN FREAKIN NECK. There's no way he beats him."
@IndyFanatics: "Sandro just made himself a star tonight. That kid went bar for bar with Kurt on the mic, and I wouldn't be surprised if he pulls off the upset. He is the future of wrestling that's for sure."
@SuplexCityBitch: "I don't care who wins, all I know is we're about to witness greatness. This feud is MONEY. FCW and TNA know what they were doing with this feud."
Big E, who was sitting beside him, peeked over. "Man, you got the whole world watching now. You ready for this?"
Sandro let out a small laugh, shaking his head. "I don't know if anyone's ever ready for something like this. But I'll be damned if I don't make the most of it."
Big E grinned. "That's what I like to hear. Now, let's go eat. You're gonna need the fuel, you've got a war coming."
After eating some Chinese food with Big E and dropping him off at his rented apartment, Sandro drove back to the FCW Headquarters.
The buzz from the night's events still lingered in his mind. The confrontation with Kurt Angle had shaken the wrestling world, and now, the possibilities before him were endless. He was still processing it all when he arrived at the backstage entrance, where April was already waiting for him.
The moment she spotted him, she practically bounced over to the car, opened the passenger door, and slid in with an excited grin. As soon as Sandro put the car in drive, April leaned over and kissed him on the cheek, her eyes shining with excitement.
"Babe, what the hell?! You went toe to toe with Kurt freaking Angle tonight, and you didn't tell me or Nikki?!" she exclaimed, lightly hitting his arm in playful frustration.
Sandro chuckled, shaking his head. "Trust me, I didn't know either. Dusty and Steve kept it tight lipped and only said there would be a big surprise. I didn't expect them to bring Kurt in tonight, let alone have him challenge me."
April gasped, then practically squealed. "So, does that mean there's a chance you could become a double champion? With a world title from the third largest promotion in the world in your hands?!"
Sandro nodded before letting out a breath and shaking his head. "I mean, there's a possibility, but let's be real, it's Kurt freaking Angle. The guy's a machine, a wrestling legend. I don't think my chances are that great. Besides, at the end of the day, it's up to Dusty, Steve, Dixie, and Jeff."
April pouted for a moment, then shrugged, her excitement undeterred. "Well, let's just see what the future brings. But no matter what, this is huge for you."
Sandro smiled at her enthusiasm, then reached over and squeezed her hand. "Yeah, it is."
She grinned. "Alright, let's go home."
With that, Sandro drove back to his apartment, his mind still running over the night's events as April continued to gush about how proud she was of him.
The next morning, sunlight filtered through the apartment blinds as Sandro groggily made his way to the kitchen. April was still asleep, her face buried in the pillow, so he decided to make them both some breakfast.
As he cracked a few eggs into a pan, his phone suddenly rang. Glancing at the screen, he saw his mother's name pop up. He quickly wiped his hands on a towel and answered.
"Morning, Mom!" he greeted, a small smile forming as he heard his mother's warm laughter.
"Morning, sweetheart," Taylor said, her voice filled with happiness. "How are you?"
Before Sandro could answer, another voice chimed in, his father's. "Son! Is it true that you're going to have a match with Kurt Angle?!" Jack's excitement was palpable, and it made Sandro chuckle.
His father was usually composed, even a bit goofy when joking around with him, but when it came to business, especially matters concerning Nexum Core, he was always serious. Seeing him so hyped about his match was a rare sight.
Taylor's voice could be heard in the background, telling Jack to calm down before she spoke again, her tone still laced with excitement. "Is what your father said true, Sandro?"
Sandro exhaled through his nose, leaning against the counter. "There's a high probability. Kurt subtly inserted those words last night, and from how Dusty and Steve were talking afterward after my match, it sounds like they want to run with it."
Jack and Taylor both let out cheers of pride, and Sandro couldn't help but smile.
"We're so proud of you, sweetheart," Taylor said. "You're achieving milestone after milestone in your career."
Jack chimed in, "Win or lose, you're stepping into the ring with one of the best to ever do it. That's something special."
Sandro nodded, feeling the weight of their words. They chatted a bit longer, exchanging lighthearted conversation before ending the call. As Sandro placed his phone down, he took a deep breath. His parents were right, this was big. It was another opportunity to prove himself, to further cement his place in the wrestling world.
Meanwhile, at FCW Headquarters, Kurt Angle was in a private meeting with Dusty Rhodes and Steve Keirn. On the other end of the line, Dixie Carter and Jeff Jarrett were dialed in, their voices coming through the speakerphone as they all discussed the potential match.
"So, we're really considering this as a title versus title match? So soon after our partnership deal was signed two weeks ago?" Jeff asked, his voice carrying a hint of curiosity.
"It's what the people want," Dusty said, his tone firm. "Twitter exploded after last night. The fans are eatin' it up. We got people debating, people hyped, this ain't somethin' we can just ignore as momentum was very strong from the fans."
Dixie's voice came through next. "I agree. From a business standpoint, this is a goldmine. Cross promotion exposure, title prestige, it's a win-win scenario for both FCW and TNA just like how we talked about before."
Kurt, who had been sitting back and listening, finally spoke up. "I'm all in on this. But let's talk about who's actually walking out with both belts. We need to think about the long term implications."
Steve Keirn hummed in agreement. "That's the tricky part. If Kurt wins, TNA gets to boast about having another belt in their camp. But if Sandro wins… well, that's a major star making moment."
"Exactly," Dusty added. "Kid's on fire right now. This could be what pushes him to the next level. But we also gotta be careful 'bout how we book it. Kurt's a legend. Sandro's still buildin' himself up. If we book it wrong, we risk either hurtin' Kurt's credibility or making Sandro's win seem too unrealistic."
Dixie let out a thoughtful hum. "Well, let's weigh our options. If Sandro loses, how do we keep his momentum strong? If he wins, how do we make it believable?"
Silence filled the room as everyone considered the stakes. Finally, Kurt spoke again, a smirk playing on his lips. "We have many options. But whatever we do, we make sure this match is win win situation for me and that kid, also the best for both FCW and TNA." Everyone in the meeting nodded in agreement. This wasn't just any match. This was a defining moment in both FCW and TNA history, and they had to get it right.
