Chapter 1 - The (Un)Familiar Forest

As soon as I opened my eyes, I was met with thick bushes and tall trees. It was cold. That's what I thought when I felt a cold sensation on my cheeks. I was lying down facing my right without anything that separated me from the earth.

"...Where…am I?"

A simple yet important question came out of my mouth. Yes, where am I? If I simply looked around, only trees and bushes came into my sight. I'm inside a forest. That answered my question. But which one?

Amazon? No, because the Amazon rainforest's floor is more muddy or humid. This one is dry but soft to touch.

Canada? Still no.

Then my eyes wandered around searching for clues, only to be pinned to the sky. The first thing that popped into my head the moment I saw the scenery was amazement because everything was visible to be seen in the night sky. Be it other galaxies, stars, shooting stars, etc.

But, only one thing became my focus. The moons. Wait. The moon but it had 's'? Yeah, the thing that really makes me confused right now is, there are two moons. One small while the other one bigger. How was that even possible? Doesn't Earth only have one moon?

"...What if this wasn't Earth?..."

I clapped my hands like I suddenly realised something.

"That's more logical if you think of it that way!"

Welp, my brain had stopped working. I don't care anymore. So, putting aside all illogical things, let's focus on the most illogical ones. I assume I am currently not on Earth but another world. How does that happen? Did I die or something? Reincarnated? Summoned?

And, just like that, another question popped out.

"Wait. Who am I?"

***

It's been an hour since I decided to sit down and think about my identity and try to recall any memories about me, but all in vain. Nothing came out.

"Damn it." I whispered.

My hands had been scratching my itchless head countless times while trying to logicize this occurrence. Even though I had zero recollection of myself, I actually had something in exchange for it: the knowledge of the modern world.

Means?

It means that my brain was packed with all kinds of knowledge, be it science, arts, politics, history of the Earth, etc. Simply speaking, I'm pretty smartass right now. All of that except for memories of myself. Well, it's really convenient though, but I doubt it will be useful in this strange world.

"Anyways, I need to start doing something rather than thinking that will barely produce any results. Action speaks louder than words."

I stood up, brushing off any dirt that stuck to my white one-piece. Eyes focused onward, feet began to move. Where will I go? I don't know. Just follow some instinct. As I walked, I noticed that the forest was strangely quiet for some reason, so quiet that it gave me goosebumps.

Also, this forest somehow gives off a nostalgic vibe. It was like I hadn't been here for a long time. Maybe it was connected to my old self.

After a couple of minutes strolling through the forest, my ears finally caught some faint sound of a stream nearby. I slowly walked through the bushes and met with the source.

A clean stream illuminated by moonlight makes it more beautiful, with many small rocks residing beside the stream. I step down carefully to make sure not to trip. After I kneeled down, my eyes laid down onto the stream to look at my reflection.

"...So, pretty…"

I don't want to be a narcissist but damn, my face is really beautiful. Who wouldn't say that when you see a pale round puffy face, that harmoniously blended with red blood iris and long snow-white hair?

"Am I having albinism or what?" My fingers crawled on my face as I spoke to myself.

As I was immersing myself, the environment suddenly blackened. It's not like some cloud passing under the moons blocking some of its lumination but something, 'something big' was standing behind and stared down upon me.

Through the reflection, a ferocious jet-black wolf was staring into my very soul with its white predator eyes. My body froze, I didn't know what to do.

'What the heck is that thing??! Is that even a wolf?!!' I screamed inside.

That thing stood 8 feet tall while its body was freaking massive. I also notice other strange features from it, like a reticle-like halo on top of its head and its body keep releasing a black smoke.

Put those things aside, I need to think of a plan or some—

"Emergency activation: Calore Shield."

Before I realised, the 'wolf' had already opened its jaws to swallow me in one go. At the same time, my mouth moved on its own, blurted out those words in a monotonous tone. After a brief second, a shrill sound came after the collision between the wolf's teeth and something invisible above my head.

"???!!"

The impact caused a lot of sparks. All of the sparks then strangely rose up simultaneously causing a fire? The 'wolf' right now was howling in pain. Its whole body was on fire now. That massive creature then fell down and rolled around trying to put the fire out.

After about a minute, its body had completely burned out, leaving only black ash and a floating halo above it.

"What…just happened…"

The situation is very abnormal right now. Woke up to see two moons, then was nearly swallowed by a wolf(?) but still alive thanks to a shield(?) that I unknowingly created. This is really another world, maybe a fantasy one.

"Carole Shield."

Was that magic? The spell I whispered earlier seemed to be a shield spell. Was it before amnesia, I was a magician? I tighten my fist.

'This is amazing' I thought.

The wind blew swiftly. A soft breeze touched my skin, followed by a sharp pain like being stabbed by a sharp sword in my right shoulder. My head tilted right only to be met with the white almond-shaped eye.

"Wha…"

After that, only total darkness in my vision.
