Chapter 2 - Beginning as a Noble

She jolted awake, gasping for air like she had nearly drowned. The air seemed to burn her throat, her head swimming for a second then settling. In that time, she was reminded of that strange interaction, parts of her past life floating to the surface as well. There were details missing, but none of it seemed to matter at the moment.

Taking several calming breaths, she looked around herself. She knew she needed to get her bearings before she decided whether or not she should be panicking.

The room she was in, was big with many expensive looking things that she couldn't find any reason to have or what they were in general. Some things were just strange in their own ways too. The walls were split in half, the top half being a deep color, likely green, and the bottom have a wood texture. The reason she couldn't tell what the color of the walls were, or most things really, was because the room was dim. Large purple tinted curtains to her left side kept the room in that dim look.

'I should open those.' She thought.

"Lady Selene!" A raspy voice burst into the room.

Snapping to the voice, there was a woman with salt and pepper hair standing at a door she hadn't noticed before. There was a bright light behind this new woman, making it hard to see her, but it wasn't long before those doors were closed, bathing the room once more in dim darkness.

Blinking a few times, the confused girl looked to this woman once more. She had her hair pulled tightly in a professional bun, her face covered with smile lines and eyes a simple chocolate brown. She wore a pale black gown with a stained apron. A maid perhaps?

Quickly, the maid moved across the room to the younger's bedside, her rough hands touching all over her face. As frantic as it was, it felt comforting in a way.

"My dear child, how do you feel?" The woman slowly knelt on her knees; her brows furrowed with only the truest form of concern the girl had ever seen.

Usually there was a hint of deceit and malice within someone's eyes, even if they genuinely cared about the person in front of them. Eyes that naturally shifted away from the person before them. These eyes didn't hold those emotions, they were completely focused on the person before them.

"I feel fine, Miss... But I don't know who you are." Her voice softened as she confessed this. Confessing this could get her killed, but currently the lack of knowledge outweighed that chance.

The maid blinked her eyes several times, much like the God. Unlike them, she could only look more distraught.

"You... You don't know who I am?" She whispered, almost like it was sacrilegious for the young lady to not know her.

"I-I'm sorry." She whispered quickly, leaning closer to her. "I didn't mean to make you upset."

The older woman bit her bottom lip, it looked chapped, before shaking her head. She couldn't get that emotional. Not when the young Miss had such a terrible fate. No, it would be alright if she didn't remember her just yet.

Gently, she ran her hand through the younger's hair, guiding forth green locks. The young girl noted this as strange but pushed it to the back of her mind.

"No... It is much better that you have survived." She murmured, confusing the child even more.

Had she taken over someone important? Well, clearly. But who?

"Miss... Who am I?"

Her face twisted in pity and self-hatred for a split second, then she masked it all with a smile. It looked weak and worried.

"Your name is Selene Gaea... The second daughter of the noble Dukedom of the Solstice Empire."

She nodded slowly, letting the information settle. It felt right, she could sense it.

Suddenly a ping sounded to her ears, making her jolt as a strange blue screen popped up to her side. Selene snapped her head to the woman, wondering if she could see it too. Would this make her question who she was?

No, her eyes hadn't gone to it, only focused on her in such a concerned manner.

"Lady Selene?" She murmured.

Said child swallowed thickly, looking back to the board that glowed. She was being kind to her, motherly even. She could only hope that she wouldn't find what I say strange.

"Miss... What is that?" Selene pointed to the floating screen, careful to not touch it.

The maid's brows furrowed briefly and then she smiled. It was a proud smile, a hand of hers caressing the young lady's head.

"Did you finally activate you List?"

"My list?"

She nodded.

"Yes, your List. Your Skills List. It has everything about you, and it allows you to magically enhance what you can do. Of course, there is plenty of work that must be done though." She warns, but it feels more playful.

"Can you... Can you not see it?"

The kind woman's eyes never drifted over to where her charge was pointing. Not once. As much as Selene does trust her, she doubted it was all because of kindness... At least it didn't feel that way.

She shook her head.

"The Gods had decreed after a bloody battle that none shall see another's personal level, only what they possess."

"Bloody battle?" The child squeaked, her eyes going wide. She never was considered to be a brave person.

The kind maid patted her head, hushing her softly.

"That was a long time ago. Why don't you familiarize yourself with the List once more? Perhaps you will have skill points to offer!" The woman clapped her hands, grinning.

Without another word, the maid got up and threw open the curtains, blinding the room in bright light. The young lady winced, raising a hand for a moment. With the light on her, though, she felt a wonderful power surge. This strange surge allowed her to push through the blinding light to open her eyes and study the screen that held what she would need to know, hopefully enough to survive in whatever world that God sent her to.

Name: Selene Gaea

Age: 6

Nationality: Solstice Empire

Blood Specialty: Gain Strength in the Suns' Light

Instantly, she paused there. That had to be a misspell. Suns? As in plural?

Wrinkling her nose, she looked up to talk with Miss, but stopped as she saw what the screen meant. In the sky, showering the world with light, were three suns. The biggest one appeared to be similar to the one back on Earth, circled by a bright blue one that was three times shorter than it and a strange orange-white one that appeared more oval than round.

"We have three suns!" The words slipped from her lips before she could stop them, making the maid chuckle.

"Yes, my dear we do. Though I don't know much about it, I believe the library has books about them and why the Gods gave us three."

Selene nodded to the woman. She was being very helpful, but she was only six, and personally didn't know the language... She's putting too high expectations on a toddler.

The room went quiet again as the young lady went back to reading the List.

Health: 150HP

Ability Points: 100

Magic: Level 3; 1 Points

Intelligence: Level 3; 0 Points

Insight: Level 1; 1 Points

Sense: Level 3; 1 Points

Defense: Level 3; 2 Points

Attack: Level 2; 2 Points

Strength: Level 4; 0 Points

Agility: Level 1; 0 Points

Selene frowned when she finished. The levels didn't seem balanced at all. Even for six-year-old. Besides, she didn't want to fight anyone... She just wanted to relax and enjoy the world...

"Miss... I have points... What do I do with them?"

The raspy woman's face broke into joyful grin, her clapping her hands.

"Good! Good! Now you pick a Skill and put however many points you want. Remember, if you want to go from level one to level three, you need three points."

She tilted her head nodding softly, turning back to it. Three points to go from one to three... Seems like a strange but fair system in a way. Maybe, she doesn't remember playing a game that had a system like that.

'100 points... I should space things out more evenly... But I want to be able to run away... I'm a Nobleman's daughter! I'll need to be able to run away. Fast too along with good reflexes so I don't hurt myself... As long as Agility equals speed like in most videogames.'

With that, the young soul set off to find the balance between speed and whatever else she would need within this strange world.
