Chapter 8 - Interlude: Myths and Legends of Haven (1)

During his time growing up in the glade, Isaac often sought out information about the world. In his knowledge of Earth, myths and legends often held important information and cultural cues that could become important for his future.

As Solania had a deep fascination with such stories, the Elves often recorded any stories they had heard before coming to live here. One such story caught Isaac's attention one night as Leksha repeated it at Solania's insistence.

Sometime in the distant past, Rorin and Rena were close siblings who lived on Haven and were extremely powerful Archmages. Upon reaching the pinnacle of mana mastery at the time, they each sought out different Gods to learn the deeper secrets of the world.

Eventually, Rorin met Heron, the God of Order. From him, Rorin learned that life requires structure and order, and mana, being a reflection of life, can only be mastered when one learns to reign it under their control.

Meanwhile, Rena met Lonia, Goddess of Chaos. From her, Rena learned that life requires freedom and change, and mana, being a reflection of life, can only be mastered when one learns to embrace the ever-shifting change inherent within it.

Rorin, having become enlightened to the truth, began his search for his sister. Along the way, he found many people living in desperation and fear of the ever-present dangers in the wild. Seeing a need to bring the peace and hope of order to them, Rorin used his mastery over mana to destroy the dangers of the world threatening the people. He forged nations, carved fortresses from mountains, and bound the people and their rulers to a set of laws written based on the teachings he had gained from Heron. The people rejoiced.

Rena, having become enlightened to the truth, began her search for her brother. Along the way, she found many people bound to masters who abused and dominated them. Seeing a need to bring the freedom and change of chaos to them, Rena allowed her mana to run wild, bringing forth power in the oppressed peoples and summoning powerful mana-beasts from the wilds that destroyed the abusive masters. She toppled armies, broke walls, and empowered people to live without boundaries with the teaching she had gained from Lonia. The people rejoiced.

The siblings finally met after many years of bringing their teachings to the world. At first, they rejoiced in the meeting, but it quickly became clear that they had found two different truths. They each desperately wanted to make the other understand that they had the true path.

Rena took Rorin to one of his cities and said, "Look, mine brother, see the people suffering in their labor? The rulers become fat as they dominate the people, and the people despair as their chains choke the life from their bodies!"

Rorin took Rena to her wildlands and said, "Look, mine sister, see the people suffering in their hunger? The beasts roam the nights and grow fat on the flesh of the people, and the people despair as their loved ones are killed by the strong!"

Again and again, they pulled each other around the planet, desperate to prove their truth. Eventually, believing that they could not prove their point from the ground, the two cast grand magic and rose to the heavens.

Thus, to this day, the siblings circle the world, desperately trying to prove to each other that their truth is the only truth.
