Chapter 22 - Opportunity For Rebirth

...

GIVE ME A 5 STAR REVIEW.

...

Strolling through the bustling streets of the city, Leng Wuyan and Ye Ran took their time, their footsteps echoing the rhythm of life that surrounded them.

Leng Wuyan's inquisitive nature was on full display as she explored every nook and cranny of the city. Her eyes gleamed with curiosity as she approached various stalls, eager to sample each delectable treat that caught her eye. She couldn't resist trying a bit of everything, savoring the city's flavors.

Although her primary motive was sampling the local fare...

"Master, I really can't eat anymore," Ye Ran protested with a straight face, looking at the sweet-scented osmanthus cake she held out.

"It would be a disservice to the vendor if you declined, my dear disciple," Leng Wuyan replied with a playful tilt of her head. "Are you trying to wrong the poor vendor?"

"My conscience is clear; I didn't make the purchase," Ye Ran confessed.

"But if you don't eat it, I'll feel sorry for the vendor. Are you trying to put me in a moral dilemma?" Leng Wuyan mused.

"..."

"Your unique way of thinking certainly befits a female devil."

"Will you eat it or not?"

"...I'll eat."

Ye Ran did his best to consume the sizable osmanthus cake, though his stomach protested against the indulgence.

Just then, a vendor's cry rang out nearby: "Plum Blossom Cake, fresh Plum Blossom Cake~"

Ye Ran let out a burp and started to sweat profusely.

"Is there still plum cake? I haven't tried that yet." Leng Wuyan's interest was piqued.

"Master!"

Ye Ran promptly intervened. "We've eaten enough. Howling City's GDP must've increased by at least one percent today. Let's save some treats for our next visit, shall we?"

"But I haven't tasted the plum cake yet," Leng Wuyan expressed her disappointment.

Ye Ran attempted to convince her. "We can save it for our next date."

"Next date?"

Leng Wuyan's eyes lit up.

Already, she was envisioning what their next date would entail.

Seizing the opportunity, Ye Ran swiftly whisked her away.

Together, they explored nearly every corner of Howling City, and Leng Wuyan concluded the date with a sense of satisfaction.

Under the moonlight, the two of them soared back to their sect and touched down in another garden on Xuanling Mountain.

At this time, all the lights had been dimmed, the world was hushed, and the disciples and elders had already retired for the night. Due to the prohibition against romantic liaisons, there was no nightlife at You Luo Temple, and everyone had developed the habit of retiring early and rising early.

Except for the sect master and the holy son.

As the night breeze caressed them gently, Leng Wuyan felt a pang of reluctance.

"And that concludes our first date."

Despite the challenges they'd encountered, they'd come to better understand each other's sincerity, deepening their connection.

"Ran'er, did you enjoy yourself tonight?" Leng Wuyan asked, her tone filled with curiosity.

"Of course, I had a great time," Ye Ran replied with a nod.

"I'm glad to hear that. I was concerned that activities like shopping might not be to your liking," she confessed with relief.

After all, their initial plan had been to attend a musical performance.

"As long as I'm with you, I'm content, even if I'm just daydreaming," Ye Ran's emotional intelligence had taken a significant leap.

"You have a way with words; let's not dwell on this further. I'm heading to bed," Leng Wuyan declared, a charming smile gracing her lips.

"Master, good night."

"Good night."

Ye Ran watched her vanish into the night, the sound of her footsteps fading away.

As she disappeared from sight, he realized that his mindset was slowly evolving. He was looking forward to their next encounter.

"Although, it would've been better if I hadn't indulged in so much food."

His burps still carried the sweet scent of osmanthus cake.

"Well, there's one more crucial task to address before retiring." Ye Ran's eyes turned cold.

Ding~

A system notification suddenly pierced his thoughts:

[Mission Unlocked.]

[Wang Yue, the eldest son of the Wang family in Lincheng, is without conscience and has committed numerous wrongdoings.]

[The system requests that the host provide him with an opportunity for rebirth.]

"Wang Yue?"

Ye Ran was momentarily taken aback but quickly realized the situation as he accessed the location provided by the system.

Howling City, Moon Tower!

"So, it's that prince. It seems the system and I are on the same page for our next move."

...

The performance at the Moon Tower had drawn to a close, and the attendees were departing in small groups.

A well-dressed young man stumbled out, flanked by a few companions.

"Mr. Wang, take it slow and watch your step; the path is slippery," one of his companions cautioned, offering support.

Wang Yue dismissed their concerns, declaring somewhat incoherently, "I'm not drunk; let me go!"

"We understand that you can handle your liquor, Mr. Wang, but the road is quite treacherous!"

"Young Master Wang is adamant about not getting drunk; we all know this!" his companions chimed in.

Wang Yue waved them off. "Onward to the next event!"

A shifty-looking man approached with a sly grin and said, "Young Master Wang, I've arranged some top-tier entertainment for you at Manchun Pavilion. Would you care to take a look?"

"Entertainment?" Wang Yue sneered. "I'll have you know that I have no interest in common courtesans!"

"But that's not the case, Mr. Wang! These are all from respectable families, and they've been administered a special concoction to put them in a trance, awaiting your inspection," the sly man said, grinning even more wickedly.

"Really? That does sound intriguing; lead the way!" Wang Yue's interest was piqued.

The shifty man praised him, saying, "We value our partnership with the Wang family."

Wang Yue patted him on the shoulder and assured him, "Don't worry; as long as you keep me entertained, everything will be just fine!"

"Excellent! Your words put my mind at ease! Please, follow me!"

"Lead on!"

The group departed Tingyue Tower with an air of self-importance.

Little did they know, a shadow was silently trailing them, moving with the grace of a cat.
