Naruto SI: Kaito Red Lightnin Chapter 170

Kushina blinked. "Ōtsutsuki?"

Sasuke gave her a grim nod. "They're enemies from the future. Stronger than anything this timeline's prepared for."

The markings around Kaito's eyes began to fade as he released the gathered nature energy. He exhaled and rubbed his chin in thought. "Based on what I sensed, I think the mark is a way for that Ōtsutsuki to come back to life. Like… a resurrection tool, ya know. It's the only reason I can see for giving Boruto a mark that basically converts a person's DNA or chakra into that of a Ōtsutsuki's."

Sasuke's eyes narrowed. "Can you remove it?"

Kaito shrugged. "Maybe… but we'd have to study the seal first. I'm sure that if Mom and I work together, we can at least seal it off so it doesn't progress any further. I'll need to make a copy of it, though. That probably means you'll have to stay here a bit longer than you planned."

Kushina nodded in agreement. "Yes, we'll need to examine this carefully."

Sasuke gave a quiet nod of agreement.

Then Kushina turned to Boruto with a gentle smile, reaching out to cup his cheek.

"Don't worry, Boruto-chan," she said softly. "We'll figure this out, no matter what, ya know."

The noon sun hung high in the clear blue sky over the Village Hidden in the Leaves, casting a warm glow over the training grounds near the Uzumaki residence.

Birds chirped cheerfully as they fluttered above the clearing. Under the shade of a large tree, Kushina sat with Kaito, Naruto, Karin, Haku, Guren, and Kimimaro Around her on a large blanket spread across the ground. Plates and bowls filled with delicious food surrounded them as they enjoyed a relaxing picnic.

Kushina had packed a large picnic basket full of everyone's favorites—steaming rice, crispy karaage chicken, fresh side dishes, and sweet dumplings for dessert.

Boruto, seated beside Kaito, was happily devouring his food, shoveling rice and crispy karaage into his mouth like he hadn't eaten in days. "Mmm! This is really good, Oba-chan!" he said with a bright grin as he emptied his bowl.

Kushina beamed at the praise. "I'm so glad you like it, Boruto-chan!" she said, her eyes twinkling as she reached for his bowl. "Here, have some more!"

"Eh?!" Boruto blinked, eyes widening as Kushina piled another large serving of rice, crispy karaage, and sauce into his bowl before he could even object.

"Wait… that's too much, Oba-chan!" Boruto protested, staring at the overflowing bowl.

"Nonsense!" Kushina pushed the bowl gently back into his hands with a grin. "You're a growing boy, Boruto-chan. You need to eat plenty, ya know!"

Boruto let out a nervous chuckle at the food but started eating again.

However, Naruto who was sitting right beside Kushina was far from amused. His expression darkened as he watched his mother fuss over Boruto. His blue eyes narrowed, and his grip on his chopsticks tightened. He silently shoved another mouthful of food into his mouth, chewing aggressively and faster than usual.

Kaito, sitting nearby, noticed, lowering his bowl and swallowing his food, Kaito raised an eyebrow. Since this morning, Kaito had sensed that something was wrong. Naruto had been glaring at Boruto every chance he got, and his behavior had been oddly competitive.

'Is he… jealous?' Kaito frowned, confused. 'But why?'

Naruto had never acted this way before, not even when Karin, Haku, Kimimaro, and Guren had come to live with them.

"Slow down, Naruto," Kaito said gently. "You're gonna choke if you keep eating that fast, ya know."

But Naruto ignored him. His pace didn't slow. if anything, it sped up. He scarfed down the rest of his food like he was in a race, his cheeks puffed out as he chewed furiously. Naruto thumped his chest a few times to get the food down, then shoved his empty bowl toward Kushina.

"Mom, I want more," he said. His eyes flickered toward Boruto with an unmistakable glare.

Boruto, completely unaware of Naruto's growing frustration, was still happily focused on his own food.

Without a word, Kaito reached over and gave Naruto a light bonk on the head. "Don't eat too much or you'll throw up when we start training later," he said with a small smile, though there was a hint of concern in his tone.

"Hey…" Naruto rubbed the top of his head, pouting. "That hurt, ya know!"

"Don't be like that, Kai-kun," Kushina chided softly, giving Kaito a playful glare. "Let your brother eat. He's still growing, ya know."

She took Naruto's empty bowl and filled it up again with another heaping pile of rice and karaage chicken, placing it gently back in front of him.

"Here you go, Naru-chan," she said with a warm smile.

"Thanks, Mom!" Naruto grinned, his earlier frustration temporarily forgotten as he dug into his refilled bowl with renewed enthusiasm.

Meanwhile, the other four—Karin, Guren, Haku, and Kimimaro—sat quietly, eating their food while observing the interaction between the Uzumaki family.

Kushina, noticing their silence, looked at them with a kind smile. "What about you guys? There's still plenty of food left. Give me your bowls—I'll fill them up!"

Karin shook her head politely. "I'm already full, Aunt Kushina," she said softly.

Guren nodded in agreement. "Same here, Aunt Kushina. I'm good."

Haku, ever the polite one, smiled gently and said, "No thank you, Lady Kushina. I'm full as well."

Kimimaro, ever reserved, gave a small nod. "I'm satisfied, Kushina-sama," he said quietly.

Kushina frowned, her motherly instincts kicking in. "Are you guys sure?" she asked, her gaze sweeping over them with concern.

They all nodded again, politely declining more food.

Kushina then turned her attention to Kaito, who had just taken his last bite and set his bowl down. "What about you, Kai-kun? Let me fill up yours."

Kaito shook his head with a small smile. "I'm good, Mom. I'll eat some more after training," he said casually, stretching his arms a bit.

Kushina sighed but nodded, finally turning her attention back to her own bowl.

Kushina had decided earlier that morning that she wanted to spend more time with them and watch them train. So, she had planned this impromptu picnic to make it a memorable day.

Kaito, on the other hand, had taken some extra steps. He had gone to the Hokage's office earlier that morning and requested a month off from missions. Lady Tsunade had granted it without hesitation.

'Better to have some time to figure out this whole situation with Boruto and Sasuke,' Kaito had thought.

Kaito glanced at Haku, Kimimaro, Guren, and Karin as they ate. "So," he asked, his tone casual, "how's it going at the Academy for you guys? Made any friends yet?"

Haku's eyes lit up as he smiled softly. "It's going well, Kaito-nii. Yes, we made a friend. His name is Lee. He's really energetic and… enthusiastic."

Kaito chuckled. 'Lee, huh? That makes sense. I can totally see him getting along with Haku and the others .'

Guren frowned, arms crossed, and gave a disinterested shrug. "Sparring was fun, I guess," she muttered, clearly unimpressed. "There's this girl named Tenten. She's the only one I can tolerate. The others…" She rolled her eyes, her tone filled with annoyance. "They're all obsessed with boys."

Kaito chuckled softly, already expecting that kind of answer from Guren. Yep… definitely didn't expect her to get along with the other girls.

Kaito gave him a sympathetic look and nodded. "Well, it's good that you guys are making some friends," he said with a small smile.

He rubbed the back of his head. "I get how you feel, Kimimaro. Back when I was at the Academy… I used to send a shadow clone to class almost every day while I went off to train on my own. Did that for a whole year before I finally got caught and had to graduate early, ya know."

Before anyone could react, Kushina's hand came down on Kaito's head with a loud bonk.

"Ow!" Kaito winced, rubbing the spot where she hit him.

"Stop giving them bad ideas, Kai-kun!" Kushina scolded, her eyes narrowing. "Now they'll wanna do the same, ya know!"

As if on cue, Naruto—his mouth still full of food—mumbled out, "Mmph… hey, how come you let big bro skip class, but you won't let me do it even once? That's not fair, ya know!"

Kushina's head immediately snapped in Naruto's direction, her glare sharp enough to make him swallow his food quickly. Her eyes narrowed dangerously as she turned her head toward Naruto, her mom glare in full effect. "Don't even think about it, Naru-chan," she warned, her tone sweet but laced with an unspoken threat. "You guys should use your time in the academy to form bonds and make friends. Even if it gets boring sometimes, it's important, ya know!"

Kaito, still rubbing his head, gave a small nod. "Yeah, mom's right. You guys should still go. The academy is different now. Lady Tsunade made a lot of changes to the curriculum and structure to train shinobi better than before. When I was in the academy, you only had to know the Clone Jutsu, Substitution Jutsu, and Transformation Jutsu to graduate."

Naruto tilted his head, looking confused. "Is that why you graduated in your first year? 'Cause you only needed to know those three jutsu?"

Boruto, who had been quietly listening, suddenly perked up, eyes wide. "Wait, you graduated in your first year?!" he asked, shocked. "How old were you?"

Kaito shook his head with a small laugh. "Nah… I didn't graduate just because I knew those jutsu," he said casually. "I was already Jonin-level back then. That's why they asked me to graduate early." Then, glancing at Boruto, he added with a grin, "And to answer your question… I was 7 when I graduated."

Boruto blinked, then scoffed, crossing his arms. "Pfft, yeah right," he said, his tone dripping with doubt. "Graduated at 7? Sure, maybe… but Jonin level at 7? You're totally making that up, ya know." He gave Kaito a skeptical look, clearly not buying it.

Naruto's eyes immediately narrowed. He stood up so fast his bowl almost fell to the ground. "Oi!" he snapped, pointing an accusing finger at Boruto. "My brother doesn't lie! He's the strongest there is, ya know!" Naruto's voice was filled with pride and anger. "He graduated from the academy at 7, made Chunin at 9, and became a Jonin at 12! He's the strongest person in the village right now!"

Boruto opened his mouth to argue, but before he could, even Haku, Kimimaro, and Guren frowned, clearly displeased.

Kimimaro spoke up, his voice calm but firm. "Kaito-sama isn't one to lie," he said quietly, but his tone carried weight. Haku and Guren both nodded in agreement, their expressions serious.

Karin, who had been quiet until now, crossed her arms and huffed. "Yeah! Kaito-nii isn't the type of person to lie just to get attention," she said, her eyes narrowing at Boruto. "You're just jealous that Kaito-nii is way cooler than you."

Kaito raised an eyebrow at Naruto, Kimimaro, and Karin's passionate defense, but he didn't say anything. He just watched quietly, a bit amused by their fierce loyalty.

Boruto, however, wasn't convinced. He scoffed again and shook his head. "Yeah, right… like I'm gonna believe that," he muttered, brushing them off as he went back to eating, clearly trying to act like he didn't care.

Kushina let out a heavy sigh, rubbing her temples. "Calm down, all of you," she said. "He doesn't know Kai-kun as well as we do." But despite her words, even she couldn't completely hide the frown tugging at her lips. Boruto's words had clearly bothered her too.

Everyone settled down after Kushina's words, but Naruto was still glaring at Boruto.

After they finished eating, both Naruto and Boruto were sprawled out on the ground, completely stuffed.

Boruto patted his belly, letting out a satisfied sigh. "Man… that hit the spot." He grinned, glancing at Kaito. "Your cooking's as good as Mom's, ya know!"

Kushina's eyes softened as she gathered the empty bowls. "Well, I'm glad you liked it, Boruto-chan," she said with a warm smile.

Boruto suddenly jumped up, stretching his arms above his head. "Whew! I could definitely go a few rounds to burn off all those calories!" he said, shaking out his limbs, his energy quickly returning.

Kushina, who was packing the empty bowls back into the picnic basket, glanced at him with a mischievous smile. "Hmm… how about you spar with Kai-kun, ya know?" she suggested sweetly, her tone a little too innocent.

Kaito, who had been casually leaning back, raised an eyebrow at his mother. He knew that smile. 'Oh great… 'he thought, his mind immediately recognizing it.' That's her 'don't mess with my baby' smile. Looks like Mom wants me to knock Boruto down a few pegs…'

Boruto blinked, clearly surprised by the suggestion, but then a wide grin spread across his face. Smacking his fist into his palm, he said, "Yeah! That'd be great, ya know!" His eyes locked onto Kaito with a challenging gleam. "So, what do you say? Wanna spar? You were Jonin level at 7 after all… don't tell me you're afraid of losing to me."

Kaito let out a low chuckle as he stood up, brushing off his pants. "The last time we fought, I had you pinned in seconds," he said. "But sure… I don't mind sparring with you again."

Boruto's eyes narrowed as he stood up, rolling his shoulders to loosen up. "Tch… that was a fluke. You attacked us without warning last time. That won't happen again!"

Kaito just smirked, shaking his head as he walked toward the middle of the training ground. "Yeah, yeah… believe whatever you want,"

Naruto, already fired up, jumped to his feet and pumped his fist in the air. "Go kick his butt, Kai-nii!" he shouted, his voice filled with excitement.

Karin cupped her hands around her mouth and yelled, "Make him pay for what he said earlier, Kai-nii!"

Haku and Kimimaro just watched intently, their gazes focused on the two in the clearing.

Guren smirked and called out, "Don't go easy on him, Kai-nii!"

Kaito stood across from Boruto, his hands casually tucked in his pockets. "Everything goes," he said, his voice calm.

Boruto grinned, his confidence showing. "No holding back then," he replied, smacking his fist into his palm with excitement. "Alright… here I go!"

Boruto quickly crossed his fingers, forming the hand sign. "Shadow Clone Jutsu!" he called out.

Poof! Poof!

Two identical clones popped up beside him. Without wasting any time, all three of them rushed straight at Kaito, determination flashing in their eyes.

But Kaito didn't move. He stood there, still calm, still composed… hands still in his pockets.

What's he planning? Boruto thought as he closed the distance.

When the clones reached him, the one on the right aimed a punch straight at Kaito's face, while the one on the left went low, attempting a leg sweep to knock him off balance.

But Kaito moved like a ghost.

He casually leaned back, letting the punch from the right clone sail harmlessly past his face. At the same time, he effortlessly hopped back, avoiding the leg sweep like it was nothing.

He's not even trying… Boruto gritted his teeth, frustration building.

Suddenly, the real Boruto appeared behind Kaito, a Rasengan in his hand. "Gotcha!" he shouted, thrusting the chakra sphere straight at Kaito's back.

But the Rasengan went straight through him.

Boruto's eyes widened. "What the—?"

Kaito's body flickered and vanished.

"Where did he go?" Boruto muttered, looking around, while his clones scanned the area in confusion.

Boruto's eyes widened as he realized too late.

Kaito appeared right behind him. "I'm here," he said with a hint of amusement.

Before Boruto could react, Kaito's foot connected with his back, sending him flying into his shadow clones. They all went sprawling across the ground, kicking up dust as they tumbled.

Poof! Poof! The clones vanished on impact, leaving Boruto groaning on the ground.

And Kaito?

He was still standing there, hands in his pockets, looking as bored as ever.

"Is that all you got?" Kaito asked, his tone flat, as if this was barely worth his time.

Boruto pushed himself off the ground, frustration etched on his face. His pride wouldn't let him back down that easily. he crossed his fingers as two more clones reappeared beside him, their expressions mirroring his resolve. Pulling out a kunai from his pouch, Boruto infused it with Lightning Release. Sparks crackled around the blade as his eyes narrowed in focus.

"No…" Boruto muttered, his voice serious. "I'm just getting started." His clones began to gather Wind Release chakra in their palms.

Boruto jumped, and the clones used the wind chakra to propel him forward like a missile.

"Boruto Stream!" he shouted as he rocketed toward Kaito, a kunai aimed straight at him.

Boruto appeared in front of Kaito in an instant, slashing the kunai down with impressive speed.

But Kaito was faster.

Whoosh.

Kaito casually ducked under the slash, his movements fluid and precise. Boruto flew right past him, his kunai slicing through nothing but air.

Boruto rolled to a stop, gritting his teeth. 'Damn it… He's still one step ahead…'

Without wasting a second, he charged at Kaito again, this time with his clone flanking from the front.

Boruto went in for another slash, Kaito not even looking at Boruto, effortlessly sidestepped, causing Boruto's kunai to strike one of his own clones instead.

POOF! The remaining clone went for a swift kick at Kaito.

Kaito simply jumped up, dodging the kick effortlessly.

Boruto's eyes narrowed as he saw his opportunity. He threw the lightning-coated kunai straight at Kaito, who was still mid-air.

"Got you now!" Boruto thought, his grin returning.

But Kaito twisted his body mid-air, catching the kunai using the sole of his sandal. with his chakra as he used it to grip the kunai, and with a slight twist, he launched it back at blinding speed.

POOF! Another cloud of smoke filled the air. The kunai struck Boruto's remaining shadow clone before it had a chance to dodge.

Kaito landed, his hands still in his pockets as if he had barely moved.

"Damn it!" Boruto growled under his breath, his frustration evident.

Not giving up, Boruto charged at Kaito, determination burning in his eyes. He threw a punch with all his strength, but Kaito easily sidestepped it.

Missed again… Boruto gritted his teeth but immediately shifted his weight, pivoting mid-motion to aim a kick at Kaito's side.

Kaito ducked smoothly, letting the kick sail over his head. In the same fluid motion, he swept Boruto's legs out from under him.

"Ugh!" Boruto hit the ground hard but quickly rolled away, not giving Kaito a chance to follow up. He sprang back to his feet, this time moving faster than before, and came at Kaito with a palm strike aimed straight at his chest.

Faster… but still not enough, Kaito thought, his eyes tracking Boruto's movements effortlessly.

Just as Boruto's palm was about to connect, Kaito raised his knee, intercepting Boruto's wrist and diverting the strike upward.

"Tch!" Boruto didn't waste the momentum. Using the force from the deflection, he spun and aimed another kick at Kaito.

Kaito, however, casually jumped back, avoiding the kick with ease.

"Not bad," Kaito muttered under his breath, his expression still calm.

Boruto's eyes narrowed. I can't beat him with just taijutsu… time to change it up.

Without hesitation, Boruto pulled out two shuriken from his pouch, channeling lightning chakra into them. Sparks danced along the edges of the spinning weapons.

"Let's see you dodge this!" he shouted, hurling them toward Kaito.

The shuriken curved through the air, crackling with energy as they homed in on their target.

But just when it looked like they would hit—

Kaito's body flickered.

The shuriken went straight through him, dispersing the illusion.

What the—?! Boruto barely had time to react before—

"Right here," Kaito's voice echoed.

Boruto turned just in time to see Kaito reappear right in front of him.

Too fast!

Before Boruto could defend himself, Kaito's foot connected with his chest, sending him sprawling across the ground once again.

"Ugh…!" Boruto groaned, rolling back to his feet. His eyes were filled with frustration and determination. "You bastard…" he muttered, his jaw clenched.

Boruto's hands flew through a series of hand signs as he muttered under his breath. If I can't beat him head-on… maybe this will do it!

Poof!

A shadow clone appeared beside him, both of them making hand signs in perfect sync.

Lightning chakra crackled in Boruto's palms as he charged his next jutsu. "Lightning Release: Thunderclap Arrow!" he shouted, firing a concentrated lightning bolt straight at Kaito.

At the same time, his clone brought his hands to his mouth. "Water Release: Wave Surge!" the clone shouted, unleashing a massive stream of water that surged forward, combining with the lightning.

The lightning infused the water, creating a massive wave of electrified water that rushed across the training ground toward Kaito with terrifying speed.

Watching the incoming wave, Kaito didn't even flinch.

"Reckless idiot," Kaito's shadow clone muttered as it appeared in front of Kushina and the others. Chakra chains shot out from its back, forming a glowing barrier that surrounded them, protecting them from the incoming surge.

The electrified wave slammed into the barrier, but Kaito's chains held firm, keeping everyone safe.

Meanwhile, the real Kaito didn't even move from his spot. Instead, he calmly stomped his foot on the ground.

Boom!

A massive earth wall shot up, towering between him and the electrified wave. The wave collided with the wall, sending sparks flying, but the earth held strong, blocking the attack completely.

When the water finally subsided, Boruto landed back on the ground, panting slightly from exertion. His eyes narrowed as he stared at the large earth wall in front of him. "Damn it…" he muttered under his breath, frustration clear in his tone. "He blocked it…"

The earth wall slowly lowered, revealing Kaito standing there, completely unfazed. His hands were still in his pockets, and he looked as bored as ever.

"Are you done?" Kaito asked flatly, his expression as indifferent as ever.
