Chapter 8 - I wanted to see her

(Grey's POV)

Before I realized it, it was already time for the bar to open. I had spent the day learning about the kids that I didn't notice time flying by. They were the best thing that could have happened to me, and I didn't want to leave them, but I had to. I definitely had to work harder to ensure that my kids never lacked anything. I had to work harder so that I could put more money into Autumn's company.

I picked up my phone and told Autumn I had to leave. I told her that I would be back tomorrow so that we could plan things out concerning the kids. I definitely would love to see them every day, but with my unpredictable schedule, I wasn't sure if it could work out.

I got to the bar and had a lot of work to do. I was planning on opening a new branch in a different city, and it was proving a little difficult. My assistant was filling me in on all the details when I heard a loud thud coming from outside. I got up from my seat and rushed out of my office. Someone had started a fight at the VIP lounge. I was getting tired of things like this ruining the reputation of my business. It's not like you can actually escape things like this when drinks were involved.

I walked over and tried to smooth things over when he threw a punch at me. I wasn't expecting it, but I got hit. I touched my face and stared dead into his eyes. I was tired of playing the good guy. I knocked him out with a blow to his stomach. I had acted in self-defense, so it definitely wasn't against the law. I told my security to take him to the hospital, gave them his bill, and told them to ensure that he paid when he was conscious. I addressed the crowd and told them everything was fine.

I felt a sharp pain in my head and decided to leave work early. I didn't feel like going home. I was in a sour mood, and I felt like maybe if I saw her again, my mood would be lifted. I gave my driver Autumn's address, and he headed straight there.

It was a little past midnight, so she probably wouldn't even let me in. What was I even thinking? The car was parked in front of her home, and I stood by the car, staring at the lights that were still on. I picked up my phone and dialed her number. She actually picked up my call. I went quiet when I heard her voice. It sent a slight shiver down my body. I told her to open up. I'm sure she was confused. She looked out the window and saw me standing outside. I stared up at her and gave her a soft smile.

She told me to go home, but I told her that I really wanted to see her. She cut the call, and I sighed a bit. I stood there for a few minutes before deciding it was time to leave. As I was about to open the door, I heard her front door open. She really was going to let me in.

She walked towards me, and I stared as she did. I don't think she had the intention of letting me in. She asked me for the real reason I was here, and once again, I told her that I really just wanted to see her. Her face was expressionless, but it still felt like my words reached her. She gave a light sigh, and I noticed her eyes wander to my left cheek, where I had been hit.

She asked if I had gotten into a fight. I told her it wasn't a big deal, just an issue at work. She asked if I had been treated, but I told her no. She grabbed my hand and took me inside. She sat me down on the sofa and went to bring an ice pack from the freezer. She massaged my cheek with it, and I felt a little bit of pain. I stared into her eyes as she did so, and she stared right back at me. Her eyes were really pretty, and they drew me in.

I couldn't help but draw closer to her and kiss her. I felt her flinch, but she didn't move away. Instead, she leaned in and reciprocated. I got her approval, but I didn't want things to go south, so I stopped and stared at her again. I could see a faint blush on her cheeks. She looked away and gave me the ice pack.

She got up from the sofa and told me she'd prepare a room for me to stay. I told her it wouldn't be necessary and that I would just leave, but she insisted that it was really late and that I could have my driver stay in another room for the night. I yielded to her and called my driver in.

While she prepared the room, I walked into the kids' room, and they were fast asleep. It probably took her a while to put them to sleep. I felt bad that I hadn't been there from the beginning, but it's not like I could have known that I was going to be a father.

I walked towards my baby girl and couldn't help but smile. She looked just like her mother. She was just as beautiful, and it made me want to cherish her and shower her with love. I never would have imagined having a daughter. She was the first female child my family had ever had, so I didn't know how to feel.

I spent most of my life with my mind having a so-called stereotype about women, but all that seemed to have faded now that I stared right at my own daughter.

I was definitely going to pour my love on her...
