Jasper walked with confidence and like he didn't even feel me hitting his back.
Sometimes I truly wonder what he made for him to be unaffected by my power-filled hits. He lets me hit him no matter the circumstances or situation.
It might hurt but no word of complaint or even a single sound escaped his lips as he made his way towards the dining room.
The servants we saw on our way didn't say anything and ignored us, knowing the problem and situation, since at this point it's everyday.
I sigh and finally slump on his back, dropping my fight. His one hand moved from my leg and patted my back like a praise for finally learning my lesson.
Some redness heated my cheeks but I shook my head to chase it away.
'How embarrassing.'
I could use magic and save myself but I really just want to be done with it.
The dinner and everything else because tomorrow is the day for the inheritance meeting and I need the energy.
To survive and get what's rightfully mine.
Officially this time.
My head started pounding as blood rushed in from being upside down for too long. My vision blurred a little and dizziness crawled in my head.
"You are ridiculous." I say through my pounding headache.
"And you're a stubborn idiot who refuses to take care of himself, so here we are. Now shut up and let me do my job." He said as he patted my back again, like that would make me feel better.
I sigh as I close my head, shielding my brain from vision overload.
"Fine. But put me down, I can walk."
"Can you, though?" He asked me as I felt his hair on my hips, he was shaking his head.
I scowled.
'This wanker.'
"That was one time." I protested.
"And I'm not risking a repeat. Now, behave."
I sigh and rub my head. But before I could get worse, we reached the dining room and he finally set me down.
As soon as I am on my feet, they bulge and I lose my balance. My face contracts from the feeling of blood flowing back into my whole body, as it should be.
My head lightens as I swallow a breath and get ready to hit the floor but Jasper's hands catch me and place me on my seat.
I sigh and slump on my seat as the scent of food fills my nose and the sensory overload expels my brain.
I don't even attempt to open my eyes as I rub my temple.
Once I make sure my head is clear of the fog and I am stable I open my eyes and take everything in.
The food, Jasper with a smirk, Zxan with a half worried half amused expression and Millard setting everything up not even bothering with the scene going on in front of him.
"You look half dead." Xane commented as he took his seat.
I openly glare at him as I drink some water and say "Thanks for your concern."
And to that he just nodded and took food on his plate.
Jasper took his seat and with a slight smirk spoke, "Just eat before you actually pass out."
I didn't respond as Millard placed my plate in front of me, I winced seeing the amount of food on it. I look up at him but his stern expression which is a clear indication that he will take no excuses tells me to stay quiet and finish everything.
So I muster the energy to lift my fork and knife and dig in.
Tomorrow was going to be a long day and I definitely need energy for it.
***
Morning arrived too soon. The inheritance meeting loomed over me like an inescapable storm, demanding my attention and resolve. I forced myself out of bed, the weight of responsibility pressing down on my shoulders like an iron shroud.
Millard had already arranged everything. My clothes were set out and Barman had made it his mission to make me look extra imposing and elegant.
I am wearing a clean shirt and buttoned it up fully to support the elegant tie with a black obsidian broach. On top of the shirt, a trendy vest with five buttons was set, it has a fairly deep v-line but it's narrow enough for the top to remain visible, adding another layer to the overall look of the suit.
The jacket fits me like a glove, a tailored glove, like always.
It has an intricate but subtle plaid pattern and black diamonds adore the top of it. The four buttons of the single breasted jacket are all buttoned up, a stylish and elegant choice as per Barman.
The pants match the jacket which are paired with a pair of white shoes. Completing with black cufflinks and hair slick back with a few stands free on my forehead.
A knock at the door pulled me from my thoughts.
"Come in," I called, already knowing who it would be.
Millard entered as precise and efficient as always, checking me out to make sure I am ready. "Everything is ready, my lord. The council is expecting you within the hour."
I nodded, running a hand through my hair. "Any updates on the opposition?"
"Minimal resistance, as expected. The nobles have little reason to contest your claim, and King Ravial's endorsement solidifies your position. However, a few will attempt to test your competence."
I smirked. "Let them."
Millard merely inclined his head. "Breakfast has been prepared. Jasper insists you eat before departing."
I sighed, but there was no point in arguing. After last night's ordeal, I knew Jasper wouldn't let me step outside without at least some food in my stomach. "Fine. Let's get this over with."
As we walked to the dining hall, my thoughts remained steady, calculating and absolutely dangerous. Today marked a turning point, and I would ensure that I left that meeting not just as the rightful heir—but as a ruler to be feared and respected.
The world had taken too much from me. It was time I started talking back.
