(Ally's POV)
Hi, my name is Allison Green. I'm a high school student who's in the middle of exploring what life has in store for me. I'm surrounded by people I'm grateful for and someone closest to my heart. The journey to this point was quite extraordinary.
It all started on my first day of Middle School…
I had previously been home-schooled before my parents decided to bring me out to experience the world. At the age of three, I was diagnosed with communication disorder which surprised my parents. They were extremely social and had quite a lot of connections, so not being able to communicate with people was something their child shouldn't have. Over the years they tried all they could to treat me, and I got well enough to finally attend school like the average kid.
My parents were all around the house, anxiously preparing for my first day. My parents are very loving people who dote on me more than they should. Even though my family is considered rich, my parents don't like to show off their wealth. After all the preparations were done, my parents dropped me off at school and bade me farewell. I was scared and nervous at first because I hadn't been around kids my age. Thankfully my parents chose an average school full of your average kids and not some private school full of self-centred kids.
While observing the people around me I noticed a guy at the door. When I saw his face, I was at a loss for words. He was breathtaking, there was no other words that I could use to describe him. I quickly took my eyes of him and continued looking around.
The homeroom teacher walked in and said a few words. After a while I glanced in the direction were he was sitting and continued to stare, I think it was love at first sight. While I was mesmerised, he looked in my direction and caught me staring. I felt embarrassed and instantly turned away. "I just made a fool of myself " that's what I thought. I continued looking around to study more people.
Breaktime came by quickly and I continued to observe people. Before I had the chance to finish studying my environment someone walked up to me and said hi. When I looked up and saw who it was my voice was caught in my throat and I was taken aback. It was a girl; she was adorable and a lot smaller than your average middle schooler. I was so dumbfounded by her cuteness that I couldn't speak for a few seconds. I got my senses back and responded to her. She introduced herself to me and I did the same. I couldn't help but stammer a bit. Her name was Chloe…"even her name is cute", I thought. She was a cheerful girl, and we became friends very quickly. She was the first friend I ever made so I made up my mind to cherish our moments together. I felt so relieved that I didn't end up a loner like my parents feared. Instead, I obtained a friend who made my world light up just by her words.
The first week of school passed by, and I invited Chloe over for the weekend. My parents were so eager to meet her. They immediately fell in love with her and ended up treating her like a princess. I was happy that my parents liked the first friend I made. My mom took us shopping and we stopped by a pastry shop and filled our bellies with all sorts of sweets. The day went by quickly and I had to tell Chloe goodbye. My mom secretly said a few words to Chloe. I felt like I knew what those words were because those words made her break down in tears.
Chloe was from a poor family. Her parents could barely send her to school, but they struggled because they wanted the best for their daughter. I had a strange feeling that her personality was a form of defence mechanism. She holds back her true feelings and displays a kind and cheerful attitude towards others so as not to be pitied. But I saw right through her after spending some time with her and I confronted her about it because I wanted her to trust me. She told me everything and I assured her that our friendship would never be torn apart just because of her family situation. My mom was a child psychologist, so she caught on quite quickly which caught Chloe off guard.
After Chloe left, I asked my mom what she told her. "Don't force yourself to be who you're not, you can rely on us. We will always be here for you". These were my mother's words. I felt grateful to my mom for being the person that she was and embracing Chloe who needed courage.
