Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Jinxi Town

Half an hour later, at the backyard of a restaurant named "Shengxiang" in Jinxi Town.

Shen Qinglan looked at the three pieces of broken silver and a string of Copper Coins in her hand. The pork weighed a total of 160 pounds, 20 coins per pound, totaling three taels and two coins.

She put the three pieces of broken silver into her pocket and then gave 30 coins to the driver who brought her here, and only then did she stride out of the backyard.

The driver took the money, smiling so broadly that his teeth were visible, and cheerfully said as he parked the carriage beside Shen Qinglan, "Miss, get on, I'll take you out."

Shen Qinglan thought about it, realizing she'd have to walk a large circle to get to the bustling market, so she did not refuse.

The driver said, "Miss, if you can't find a carriage when you go back later, just call for me, I'll be under the big tree at the Town Gate."

Shen Qinglan nodded and got off the carriage after reaching the bustling market.

Jinxi Town was bigger than Shen Qinglan had imagined, and also very prosperous, with so many shops and restaurants that it was overwhelming.

"Fresh meat buns for sale, one Copper Coin each, plenty of filling with enough dough, two are enough to fill you up!"

A vendor's shout caught Shen Qinglan's attention.

She hadn't even had a sip of water since morning, and her stomach had long been protesting.

"Miss, do you want to buy meat buns?"

Shen Qinglan nodded. She glanced inside the shop and saw there were tables and chairs, and she said in a low voice, "Five meat buns, I'll eat here."

The bun shop owner said, "Ah, alright, Miss, would you like some meat soup? It's only one Copper Coin, delicious and cheap."

Shen Qinglan said, "One bowl."

"Alright, Miss, please have a seat, it will be right up."

Shen Qinglan had just found a corner to sit in when she heard the bun shop owner serving others. She didn't pay attention and instead rested her right leg on the chair, her right hand on her knee, propping her chin and staring blankly at the wall.

The meat bun shop owner enthusiastically greeted, "Gentlemen, please take a seat, it will be right up!"

Saying this, he carried a meat soup in one hand and a large plate with five buns in the other, and set them down at Shen Qinglan's table.

"Miss, your meat soup and five meat buns are here, please enjoy!"

As soon as Shen Qinglan smelled the aroma, her originally distracted gaze instantly focused, and she hurriedly put down her leg, first taking a sip of the warm meat soup, then eating the buns in big bites.

A slightly monotonous voice was heard saying, "Owner, twenty meat buns, three bowls of meat soup."

Then, another slightly lively voice said, "Young Master, the meat buns here are quite fragrant."

The bun shop owner, hearing this, chuckled with some pride, "This meat bun shop has been handed down to me for almost a hundred years, the meat filling is guaranteed fresh! Come, gentlemen, enjoy!"

The somewhat monotonous voice said, "Young Master, please eat first!"

Then, a slightly deep voice said, "After a long day, you must be hungry too, everyone, please eat."

The slightly lively voice said, "Thank you, Young Master!"

Soon after, the only sounds left in the shop were the munching of buns and the loud drinking of soup.

Xuan Ying, noticing that the Young Master was holding a bun but was staring straight at the corner, asked in confusion, "Young Master, why aren't you eating?"

Beside him, Xuan Ming followed his master's gaze and couldn't help but exclaim, "It's her!"

Shen Qinglan had long sensed someone observing her from behind. Initially, she didn't want to care, but then she heard someone exclaiming as if they'd seen her before.

She had already taken note of how many people entered this shop using her years of experience as an assassin and her acute sense of hearing.

Besides the owner, there was only her and the three people who came in afterward.
