The adults in the house were all busy, even Mrs. Davis was cutting window flowers with scissors. She hadn't cut window flowers for many years, and today was the first time since she lost her daughter that she picked up scissors.
Scarlett Glenn was playing with a lantern that Anthony Davis bought for her. When she heard the doorbell ring, she ran over with the lantern: "I'll open the door."
The moment she opened the door, Scarlett looked up and saw the person outside. She was so frightened that she took two steps back, clutching the lamp tightly in her hand.
Mrs. Davis asked, "Scarlett… who's here?"
Scarlett didn't speak. She bit her lip, her little face paled slightly, and her face was filled with resistance.
The three people outside looked at her and smiled, a smile that made Scarlett feel very uncomfortable.
