Nolan Morrison stroked her chin, smiling, "It seems I've finally outranked Scarlett Glenn in your heart, quite a feat!"
Matilda Jenkins opened her mouth and bit his finger lightly, pouting, "You've always been important to me."
"Hmm, I believe you..."
Nolan leaned down, rubbing his face gently against hers.
Once they talked it through, a weight lifted off Matilda's shoulders, even though Nolan didn't tell her why he had to leave, nor what might happen once he was back.
But none of this mattered to Matilda anymore. The person she loved most was still here, and that's all that mattered to her.
She's just a simple person, doesn't ask for much, doesn't demand much.
With things cleared up, some of the anxiety in Matilda's heart dissipated, and she became more reliant on Nolan.
The night grew deeper, and after the earlier scare, neither of them was particularly sleepy.
